I stopped at Whole Foods today and took a trip upstairs to Bin 604 Wine and Spirits. Bin 604 is a wine and spirits shop that carries a nice selection of wines from all over the world as well as local favorites. They also offer a good selection of spirits, aperitif's, and other mixers. They are located upstairs in a slightly hidden but cozy and intimate space. Today (6/4/2025), they are celebrating their birthday with a champagne tasting open to all customers. The tasting consisted of different sparkling variations from different parts of the world. All were excellent choices. In celebration they are also offering a curated "Better Than Cake" birthday box of 6 wines. You can also get a "Rosé Bouquet" box right now featuring 6 bottles of rosé. Or just stop in, especially if you are shopping in Whole Foods, to pick up a bottle or 2. You can easily find something to pair with your meal. Located upstairs the Whole Foods in Harper East Baltimore, Bin 604 is owned by the Foreman Wolfe group. The convenience is unbeatable and until recently their selection was pretty conventional. I went to my first winetasting because I bought a box of their curated wine over the summer and got two free tickets. I think it's really odd that they charge $10 for the wine tastings when everyone else does it for free. The stuff there is really really lovely and Mary. The manager is really kind. But I'm so confused why anyone would pay $10 for a ticket. I will note they offer a five dollar discount for same-day purchases of the tasting. I was also not very impressed with the wine selection. I liked probably 50%. They chose really conventional wines all priced around $17-33. For tastings I expect a higher range wine and more interesting wines. But the staff again was so friendly and fun. Overall, it's a great place to buy wine and now they carry a lot more natural and local distributors, which made me really excited. Because they are operated by a big restaurant group. I have been coming to Bin 604 since they first opened their original location by the original Whole Foods location back in the late aughts. I love this wine store! They have a great rewards program as well. Since they are owned and affiliated with all of the Foreman-Wolf restaurants you can use your points to get gift certificates to their various locations. More importantly, they have a wonderful selection of anything you could want and if they don't have the specific wine that you're interested in, they can usually get it for you relatively quickly. On the off chance that what you want is simply not available they will suggest wonderful substitutions. The sommeliers that work here are fantastic. read more

The leader of our wine tasting was incredible and so knowledgeable and gave us allll the details about where the wine came from, barreling, food pairings, everything!! Got invited out to a wine tasting to kick off Spring. The wine tasting included 8 wines to try(3 whites, 1 rose and 4 reds) Learned a lot about the wines, also learned which wines paired well with different foods. Also after the tasting you were able to utilize your $5 credit towards the purchase of the wines that were apart of the tasting, I wound up purchasing 3 bottles to take home . I love that Bin 604 hosts all different types of tastings, not just wine, but whiskey and champagne as well. A fun, chill wine tasting experience for friends! Thursday evenings are wine tasting nights from 6-8pm. I went with a group of 6-8 friends - we purchased tickets online in advance. It was a self-paced experience with 8 different wines available for tasting based on the night's theme (i.e. West vs East Coast). It was nice that we could ask the guy pouring us the wine information about the wines if we wanted but we could also just go on our ways and chat with our friends. There were also little plates of bread and cheese to go along with our wine! I really loved how all the staff there were so friendly and helpful - they joked with us, came by and told us that the bread and cheese was refilled because they noticed that we were a little far from it, etc. At the end of the experience, you can use your $5 voucher from the wine tasting on one of the wines you tasted. You can ask for an extra small pour of the one you might buy before you leave! Tip: It definitely gets more crowded around 7pm (it's not a large space), probably because people ate dinner beforehand which is a smart idea... because people in our group was definitely feeling a little tipsy coming here at 6 without having eaten first! This store sells wine, champagne, and Fancy beers...they don't sell little nips or bottles of alcohol but what they lack in overall alcohol options they make up with in customer service!!! I am happy to report that I had a great time and Georgann, Nich, and Juliana were awesome!!! If you are in the neighborhood, I would stop in and if you are unsure of a libation, they may even let you taste it in advance so take advantage of that!!! I'm not sure why I keep trying to give this place my money.. every time I go in I feel so ignored I leave.. today especially. I went in to kill some time and spend some money because my wine stock at home is lacking and I have been craving a good rosè. I walked in and said hello and got a hello back but that was it. Ok I figured they were busy. Nope. The couple that got the full wine tasting had great service, the young lady that got told all the specials and sales got great service. Then I think ok maybe it's because I was responding to a text when I walked it. So I put my phone down and headed over to the area where he was explaining all the cool new can wines.. nothing, not even acknowledging my presence. At this point I'm over it. After picking up scallops for dinner I recently stopped in here for my first time. I wanted a reasonably cheap bottle of wine (around 10-12 dollars) to pair with it, didn't have a lot of time - and was willing to grab something off the bargain table, could I find one. Considering the neighborhood, I didn't have my hopes up for such a request. As I walked into a very neat, well kept store, I was immediately greeted by the staff and asked if they could help. I wish I had gotten his name to give him credit, but he directed me away from the bottle I was looking at, to a much better option at the same price. When I decided he had made a good recommendation, he put the bottle back on the shelf, and ran to the back to get me a cold bottle. I'm sure there is a large range of prices here - from absurd to cheap. I also recognize that the price is a tad higher than a corner store, but I'll gladly pay an extra dollar or so for the quality staff, recommendations and pleasant experience. That said, I'm not even sure I did end up paying extra (thus the five star review). Last night, I opened cold bottle and it was a perfect pair for the scallops. This place is great...they constantly surprise and exceed expectations. Sam knows what my wife and I enjoy and makes splendid recommendations that keep us coming back. However my last visit was above and beyond...with a quick email asking for help for a Mother's Day gift, he was not only spot on with the wine choice but also offered to run to the neighboring grocery store and grab some chocolate to fill in the treat! Wine places are wine places - at some level, they tend to boil down to a repository of expensive alcohol. Bin 604 exceeded my expectations by being more than that: it genuinely has excellent service and knowledgeable staff, leading to excellent wine choices/pairings, even when they don't have the wine you're looking for. My particular experience was simple: I walked in looking for one of a list of 10 different wines. They had none - a disappointment, but quickly mitigated by a recommendation of an equally excellent wine within the same price range (a 2008 Marchesi Mazzei 'Philip' Rosso Toscana, which was phenomenal). No complaints here. I strongly recommend going here after a trip for ingredients to Whole Foods (which is next door). If you're making the effort to get your raw ingredients from Whole Foods, then this place is well worth the effort. read more

Down in new development of Harbor East, this cute little wine store is a great place to pick up an eclectic bottle of wine. My girlfriend and I fortuitously stumbled upon it on Valentine's Day (which we were spending in Baltimore) and were pleasantly surprised to find it open on a Sunday. We grabbed a decent bottle of Champagne as well as an intriguing bottle of Pinot Noir and it only set us back $25. I will be back the next time we're staying in Charm City! read more

Wow... I came here to write this and just below Jenna M. had the same experience. My partner is Latino and does not drink, so while I browsed the store, he waited with our groceries and was just looking at his phone. He was approached by multiple employees, two of whom would not leave the area and were clearly watching him. As soon as I came up to talk to him (I am white), the employees immediately left the area. Some friends & I went to a 90 minute wine tasting class & it was quite enjoyable & educational. We were given 3 samples of white wines & 3 samples of red. I learned a lot about the wines & how to pair them with different foods. Bin 604 offer's a large selection of different wines, & the customer service is great & the staff is pretty knowledgeable. Bin 604 offers a knowledgeable staff, a pleasantly laid out store, regular wine education programs, regular wine and spirits tasting nights, and coordinate with local restaurants (one of the owners is a partner in Baltimore's most prominent restaurant group) for wine dinners. They are an all-around class act and support small producers and local business. The wine selections range from reasonable on up to luxurious, and cover the standards as well as harder to find styles. Tasting programs run on evenings and weekends and are a pleasant way to spend an afternoon. Typically their education and tasting programs' fees include a store discount - ie: $19 for the program, with a $10 discount on any wine purchase that day, for a net of $9. The only drawback is that it's city garage parking, but they do validate for up to two hours with a program or purchase. Just be aware that there are several garages in the area, and they only validate for the one that's adjacent to the Harbor East Marriott Courtyard. read more

I'm not a wine drinker but, since I work in the area, an occassion or four has called for a quick run to the BIN to pick up some goods for an event or even a hard day at work where I may want to start chugging in my car in the parking lot (joking, joking). Either way, Bin 604 has served its purpose for "round the work way" convenience for me. Although I cannot taste the difference between a 20 year old and a 20 month old bottle of wine, I still feel confident in saying that the heavy variety in brands and types of wine should be enough to satisfy the thirst of any wine enthusiast...that is unless you are one of those types that swirl & sniff wine glasses like it's going out of style and go to restaurants ordering dishes that come out the kitchen engulfed in flames & washing it down with $1200 bottles of wine that come labelled with a guarantee that it was allowed to breathe for some odd minutes & seconds in someone's bank vault before it was meticulously opened at your dinner table by a waiter who is certified in wine bottle opening :| Moving on, I'm told the prices for the BIN are pretty average for wine and I often see them offering sales on cases (i.e. BOGO half off, etc). I will say that the liquor selection (which is more my cup of spiked tea) is slim pickings and slightly pricier than your average liquor store but, then again, you don't go to the Bin for a fifth of Johnny Walker Black, instead you bend your arse around the corner to the nearest package goods & handle your business. Also, word to the wise, parking is metered and if you stop by on a Friday or Saturday night, you will be battling for a spot with the heavy residential/leisure restaurant traffic that frequents Harbor East due to all the dining options in that small district. read more

The store associates - two white men - continuously watched her while she was shopping and looked into her bag to make sure she wasn't "stealing" anything before she left. This was undoubtedly racially motivated, as no one else in the store was treated this way. This was extremely frustrating, given she was doing nothing wrong and we were excited to try a new liquor store in the area. Bin 604 is an unpretentious, well-stocked wine shop (beer and liquor also available), located next to Whole Foods Inner Harbor East. The location is key, you can pick up a bottle of wine after your groceries, parking is readily available in the adjacent garage, and the staff is friendly and willing to offer recommendations and pairings based on what you are planning to prepare. They stock wines for all price points, so there is no need to be intimidated to make a purchase if you aren't planning to spend a ton of cash. I've not yet attended the wine tastings, but definitely plan on doing so. I'm also tempted to pick up the monthly $99 case of 12 mixed bottles, as it seems like such a great deal! As a Californian who just recently arrived in Baltimore, it was a little odd navigating the antiquated Maryland laws regarding where/when you can purchase alcohol, so I'm definitely glad I found Bin 604. Went to a WONDERFUL wine tasting here on a Thursday night! The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and very knowledgeable about wine. If you go to a wine tasting and buy a wine, you get a discount! I think it was 15% but I'm not sure. I also went to their complementary tasting when the beaujolais nouveau came in... a very cool opportunity!! I will definitely be coming back to this place in the spring, even though campus is a bit far away. They have a great selection of wine. The owners of Bin604 (Tony Foreman and Cindy Wolf) also are also the restaurateurs of Pazo, Petite Louis, and the Charleston! When is the last time you were able to pick out a $99 mixed case of wine and not worry about going blind from the crappy swill you'll labor to find at this price? You could do far worse than having the overstocked and undersold remnants of the cellars of Charleston, Pazo, Chingahle, and Petite Louis hand selected in a $100 case with a sheet of individual wine descriptions and pairings conveniently waiting for you in stacks by the door. The inky terroir of some of the predictably crummy Montepulciano is reminiscent of the pitcher's mound dirt at Camden Yards. The inexpensive pinot noir with the tannic pucker for the next ten years will be the designated party gift. For the inevitable tradeoffs, frequent participation in the $99 case of the month won't set you back and will expose you to more varietals than your peers pretend to know. Every so often there is a gem in the otherwise interesting everyday wine. Parking is awesome. Breeze into the garage, circle to the top floor, park next to the elevator, grab dinner at Whole Foods, grab your vino, get validated, and out in twenty minutes or less with no parking charge. Graduating from the case of the month exposes you the employees who clearly love their wine and their jobs. A bearded thirty something guy walked me through a formidable Alsatian section competently and off the cuff. Stock up on the large format Yellow Tail or Beringer white zin at Beltway. Get your forty and a lottery ticket down Fleet Street at the Loading Dock. Take a wine class and bump into attractive people while being directed to that perfect bottle at this unpretentious Harbor East destination. read more

I'll admit right up front that I am a price sensitive consumer. By that I mean I don't want to pay a penny more for something than the market says it's worth, but I do enjoy the finer things in life and will regularly buy an upgraded brand on the things I like. Ex: I will pay more to eat at an amazing chef's restaurant and would rather die than eat at a chain, even if it is a high end chain (I'm talking about you, Bonefish!). That out the way, my rating is based on the fact that I think Bin 604's prices are too high for the wines that they sell. I'd actually give them a 3.5 if possible. They do, however have many things going for them which support the pricing. It is a very beautiful, and dare I say sexy space. They also have EXCELLENT employees. The service definitely makes the pricing tolerable. I walked in and said I'd like a bottle of red to take to a friend's boat to watch the fireworks. The guy helped me pick the perfect wine. He literally pointed out to me how each of his 3 suggestions were good for drinking wo food. I truly appreciate that kind of knowledge. In my mind it's like paying hundreds of dollars to change the oil in your BMW at the dealer. There is nothing like pulling in and having BMW level customer service even if the same actual service costs exponentially less at the jiffy lube for my Honda (I've had both and it is HARD going backwards - trust me!), but I sorta hinted that I'm a bit cheap :) So, I would go there when I need an expert to help me pick a fancy wine, but for my tried and trues, I'd go to one of my other regular wine shops. read more

And let me tell you, they are wonderful hosts and I was blown away by how special they make the space for you and your group! I planned a friends surprise bachelorette party, we all live in the city, and I wanted to do something fun, casual, and different. I came across Bin 604 in my searches. I emailed them and they promptly emailed back. I liked what I heard from them and went in to see the space and speak with them more about it. Basically, the store has a small and beautiful sectioned off area in the center of the store, it has room dividers in the corners so it doesn't feel awkward like your in the middle of a store, you kind of feel like you are in a fancy wine cellar! I love the space and I was told they will provide hor d'oeuvres (including bread from Pazo.. sold!) and we will get 6 bottles of wine for the 2 hour event. For $30 a person, plus tax and plus a $40 attendant fee, it was a great price! I found out a few girls that were invited were pregnant, I asked Bin 604 if they would offer a discounted wine tasting rate for them (since they obviously will not be drinking), they said it would be discounted and they will provide some sparkling juices or something like that from Whole Foods, which is conveniently next door for them. I was so happy with the way they were willing to accommodate for us! Patrick (who I made the arrangements with) was very nice, and very willing to answer questions and concerns, he even told us we could bring decorations and cake, or whatever we wanted, except of course they typical bachelorette accessory (if you catch my drift) was not allowed since the store is still open during the event (bummer, but we kept it classy). Anyway, the event was flawless, and the bachelorette was so surprised and it was great for all the girls to meet and chat before the rest of the night! You can get wine anywhere so customer service is important and the customer service at this place is lacking. Foremost, black people drink wine. So when you have black patrons do not ignore us or be otherwise rude because you're in shock or denial. A lady, a person of color, was offering wine samples and was very nice and helpful. I asked her about getting a wine by order that I used to drink in France. She told me to order with her associate at the counter. The first associate ignored me to check out a white customer. The second associate was absolutely unhelpful from being difficult when I asked about ordering the wine, to explaining that she doesn't know about the wine and that it will be "very expensive" to obtain, to very reluctantly saying she would try and call and see, maybe, if possible they could order the wine or get information and they'd call me back sometime. Still I bought a bottle of wine because clearly I needed some if I was in a wine store. I asked to have the bottle chilled and she asked me if this wine was one they could chill? I said yes. And then she yelled her question to me again as she walked back to check and see if she could chill it. I told her there was a sign that said they would chill it if I asked. It was then the woman of color associate asked if my wine was going to be chilled. I told her yes. I checked out and left. The associate I dealt with was rude, gruff and unhelpful. There are several wine shops in the area and usually I go to the Wine Source in Hampden, where I've found the associates to be consistently kind and helpful and quick to order something if you want it. I only stopped by this store today because it was near Whole Foods where I was shopping. I won't do that again. The selection is small to begin with and then couple that with bad and selective customer service, I shouldn't even made the purchase I did today, but again wine. People of color shouldn't expect to only get good service from other people of color. Do better Bin 604. Either way, I won't be back. **UPDATE** 1/10/2018 The store did call and provide info on the wines I wanted to order. They were exceptionally reasonably priced, not expensive and the associates I spoke with extremely nice and helpful. Not all bad apples here. I was staying at the Marriott Waterfront in Baltimore on a business trip and stopped by here to on my way to pick up pizza from Isabella's (amazing by the way). The shop resembles an actual wine cellar and feels very cozy. I wish I had spent more time looking around and maybe sampled some wines but I was short on time as I had already called in my order and wanted to pick it up and get back to the hotel before it got cold. When I walked in I was greeted by an employee (maybe the manager?) who asked if I was looking for something particular. I told him I was on my way to pick up a pizza and he said he had the perfect wine. I immediately felt confident that he knew what he was talking about and instantly fell in love with the bottle itself. I know that's not a legitimate reason to buy a bottle of wine but it was so cute! It was called Cantina Zaccagnini and is a dry red wine. The price was a little higher than I would normally spend ($18.99) on a bottle but since I was there on business I was planning to expense it. Suffice it to say, I really enjoyed this wine and it paired wonderfully with my pepperoni pizza. I appreciated the quick service and feel bad that I didn't give him a chance to explain more about the wine. I will definitely come back here the next time I am in town. read more

As far as wine goes, I'm definitely a big fan that tries to know as much as possible about it. So when I find a store that carries good wines with a very knowledgeable and helpful staff, I stick to it. Bin 604 has wine to please all tastes and budgets. From the bargain wines that are less than $15 (some are as cheap as $8) that you can drink every day, to the occasional diner party wine for 30$ and to the expensive wines you keep in your cellar for 10 years, they have it all. The owner, Tony Foreman, is well-known in the restaurant and wine scene in Baltimore and makes great selections to fill his store. The manager, Jen, has a wonderful palate and can find the best wines from smaller wineries and the best deals. Bin 604 is more of a wine boutique than a wine store. Their selection is not huge but always changing and the staff knows what they are talking about. I point out a couple of bottles I like and they recommend new ones that I'm almost always impressed with. They also have wine-tastings every other week, wine classes on weekends and the occasional wine producer showcasing his products. They are a bit on the expensive side, especially when you consider prices that can be found on the internet, but they are definitely worth it because of the wonderful service. read more

The people here are very friendly and really knowledgeable about what they have in stock and make great suggestions for your price range or food pairings. It's nice to get away from the mass produced cheap stuff (even though some of that is still good and a bargain) and go to more interesting brands at all levels. They keep under-priced bottles, so you can easily find 90pts for $10-15. I also just bought a case of mixed wines for $99, that they will deliver (in the city). It has a great cozy wine cellar feel. On occasion, they've been able to get things in for me that they didn't have in stock or carry in the normal course of business.
