I highly recommend sitting at the chef's table, which is the counter that belly's right up to the chefs that are cooking right out in the open. It is the coolest experience to watch their every move and listen to them communicate with each other. You do not feel any heat off of the grill or the stove because of the way it's set up. You just get to watch them make their magic. I expected this place to be overly priced because it is so nice but honestly, the prices are great. For the experience and for the food, I was more than happy with the pricing. The hospitality there is top-notch from the second you walk in and every minute after that, you feel like you are paid attention to and that you matter. We had a 5 PM reservation on a Saturday night. Like I said, we ate at the chefs table. As soon as we sat down, the owner came up and greeted us and shook our hands, introduced himself and introduced us to all of the chefs that were cooking. I noticed he did that with everybody at the chefs table, so it was such a cool experience. Then he brought us out a little sample to try that isn't on the menu and that was super nice. He checked on us a couple of times after that. In between him checking on us, we had the nicest waiter checking on us. He was more than a waiter. He was like a concierge of the restaurant. He knew about every dish and every drink and could give us very specific details about it and help us decide what we would like. Now to the food, wow I mean wow. The staff leadership. Where is it? Where is an experienced leader to help ensure the customers' needs are met? What I see is a very young (and very sweet) staff operating largely unsupervised. Tonight, for example. My wife and I got dressed for dinner, and showed up sans reservation. All good. I made my way to the bar to get drinks for my wife and me, while my wife checked us in. We were seated in a booth fairly quickly upstairs. Our server took good care of us, despite how busy it was. So far so good. My wife ordered a yummy sandwich, and I ordered the Yard Bird, essentially a grilled chicken breast. I ordered asparagus and a side salad to go along with it. We sat there for a bit, but things were busy, and all was good. We were having a great time. Here's where they could do better, and it feels very typical as we're eating there - a lot. After sitting for a while our food came, but here's the deal. The salad wasn't delivered early, as is customary. It came with my entrée. By the time I enjoyed my salad, and the vinaigrette was outstanding, the chicken and asparagus was cold. I just boxed it up and took it home. Really? How hard is this, folks? Your food is priced at big boy prices, but the overall service is not up to the prices you charge. Here are a few more examples. These are simple things that can be fixed, if anyone bothers to: Since I moved here over a year ago, I've developed a liking for their onion rings. We frequently order them as an appetizer. In that year, guess how many times when the appetizer is delivered to the table (usually by a member of the kitchen staff and not by our server) that we have plates for each person to use? Zero. Not once in the last year. All we can do is try to catch the kitchen staff member before they walk away and ask for plates. Then we wait as our appetizer cools off for the plates. Who's guiding these kids? Next, order iced tea. You'll get your tea, but many, many times with such a minimum of ice that you have to ask the server for more ice before you're even a third through. On the tea thing, if you order iced tea with lemon, in my experience you'll get the lemon you ordered only about half the time, and you have to follow up. Additionally, when you're done with your first glass of tea and you're due for a refill, it would be outstanding if, when a refill is placed in front of you, it had lemon as well. It's so simple, right? Back to tonight's dinner. We had dinner in a booth upstairs, but we decided to move downstairs for coffee and dessert at the bar. But wait, the coffee machine is broken, so no coffee. We left, and went to another restaurant for dessert. I love the people at Shindigs, and it pains me to give this feedback. I'm a foodie, and I appreciate good service and tip accordingly. I'm not one with restaurant experience, other than from a customer perspective. It just seems to me that someone should be teaching basic expectations to the staff, then hold them accountable for providing it. I took my 2 kids for an overnight stay specifically for the waterpark. Booking online was easy, the rooms are about $200 per night and that includes waterpark access. Here's a list of pros and cons: Pros: *Parking was easy and relatively close to the entrance near the waterpark. *I requested a room closest to the waterpark and we definitely got that. *The waterpark is a decent size, much smaller than Great Wolf Lodge in KC but that was a perk for me since I'm a single mom taking 2 young kids. I was able to keep an eye on both of them no matter where I was in the park. *There's a snack cafe inside the waterpark with basic things like hot dogs, cotton candy, nachos, soda, and ice cream. The website says you're not supposed to bring your own food but I brought several bottles of water in my bag and no one said anything. *The lazy river was AWESOME! It's a good size that kept my kids entertained for hours and has jets that push you along in some spots so that kept it fun too. *There are slides for adults and bigger kids and for younger kids too. *There were plenty of chairs to put your stuff, lockers are available too but I didn't feel the need for them. *You can rent as many towels as you want for free, just make sure you return them or they are $15 each. *The restroom in the waterpark also has showers and stalls for changing clothes. The restroom was clean but the floor was VERY slippery when it was wet. I definitely recommend flip flops or water shoes. *Not overly crowded. Definitely more comfortable and more space than Great Wolf Lodge. Cons: *When we walked in to check in, not a single staff member at the desk greeted us or even appeared friendly. Finally a woman at the desk said "last name?" and that was her way of checking us in. *Obviously since it's a casino my kids immediately noticed the smell of cigarettes. Our hotel room on the beachfront side did not smell though. *The coffee shop and the more kid friendly restaurants outside the waterpark were not open, staff did not give a reason for this but it was disappointing as there isn't fast food close and this was my plan for our meals while here including breakfast. We ended up using Door Dash and ordering McDonald's for breakfast the next morning. *Our hotel room was a King bed with sofa sleeper. The room itself was nothing to write home about it, it was very basic and the TV was pretty small considering the size of the wall it was on. The sofa bed was dirty, there were pretzel crumbs on it and the mattress itself looked old and worn. You could feel the springs on it when you sat down. My son slept it on it and said it was fine, for an adult it would be miserable. There was a working mini fridge in the room, no microwave. The sheets/blankets were just okay. The room seemed like it was cleaned very quickly. *The waterpark hours suck. It is only open on Friday - Sunday. Opens at 4 PM Friday and not until 11 AM Saturday/Sunday. Keep in mind, other than a small overpriced arcade there's nothing for kids to do in the casino or surrounding area. My kids watched TV and played in the room but were really anxious to get to the waterpark so that was frustrating. *Most of the lifeguards seem to be attentive, there were a few that you could tell really didn't care to be there. Also I thought there would be more lifeguards, I only noticed 4. *The waterpark used to be accessible to guests only and recently they started offering day passes. I imagine this will mean a bigger crowd. Overall this is a great option if you're an hour or two at most away. I wouldn't drive more than an hour to get here. I would probably come back just because it is closer than Great Wolf Lodge and cheaper. If it gets more crowded due to Day Passes and if cost goes up then I won't be coming back.
