I have to first say, I love Shindigs. Winfield is blessed to have them. The food is great, and the staff is very personable, and they cater to requests that are slightly off menu very well, and thank you for that. Now, why am I dropping from five to four stars? The staff leadership. Where is it? Where is an experienced leader to help ensure the customers' needs are met? What I see is a very young (and very sweet) staff operating largely unsupervised. Tonight, for example. My wife and I got dressed for dinner, and showed up sans reservation. All good. I made my way to the bar to get drinks for my wife and me, while my wife checked us in. We were seated in a booth fairly quickly upstairs. Our server took good care of us, despite how busy it was. So far so good. My wife ordered a yummy sandwich, and I ordered the Yard Bird, essentially a grilled chicken breast. I ordered asparagus and a side salad to go along with it. We sat there for a bit, but things were busy, and all was good. We were having a great time. Here's where they could do better, and it feels very typical as we're eating there - a lot. After sitting for a while our food came, but here's the deal. The salad wasn't delivered early, as is customary. It came with my entrée. By the time I enjoyed my salad, and the vinaigrette was outstanding, the chicken and asparagus was cold. I just boxed it up and took it home. Really? How hard is this, folks? Your food is priced at big boy prices, but the overall service is not up to the prices you charge. Here are a few more examples. These are simple things that can be fixed, if anyone bothers to: Since I moved here over a year ago, I've developed a liking for their onion rings. We frequently order them as an appetizer. In that year, guess how many times when the appetizer is delivered to the table (usually by a member of the kitchen staff and not by our server) that we have plates for each person to use? Zero. Not once in the last year. All we can do is try to catch the kitchen staff member before they walk away and ask for plates. Then we wait as our appetizer cools off for the plates. Who's guiding these kids? Next, order iced tea. You'll get your tea, but many, many times with such a minimum of ice that you have to ask the server for more ice before you're even a third through. On the tea thing, if you order iced tea with lemon, in my experience you'll get the lemon you ordered only about half the time, and you have to follow up. Additionally, when you're done with your first glass of tea and you're due for a refill, it would be outstanding if, when a refill is placed in front of you, it had lemon as well. It's so simple, right? Back to tonight's dinner. We had dinner in a booth upstairs, but we decided to move downstairs for coffee and dessert at the bar. But wait, the coffee machine is broken, so no coffee. We left, and went to another restaurant for dessert. I love the people at Shindigs, and it pains me to give this feedback. I'm a foodie, and I appreciate good service and tip accordingly. I'm not one with restaurant experience, other than from a customer perspective. It just seems to me that someone should be teaching basic expectations to the staff, then hold them accountable for providing it. I assume the teaching has taken place, I just don't see the accountability by a leader following up. read more

Was there yesterday and oh wow . Best chicken fried chicken and seasoned green beans. Also had wonderful salmon with asparagus. Everyone in group loved their food. Now to the amazing and ambitious ambiance... I said that on purpose. Renovated and expanded former train depot done with such attention to detail you won't be able to find your "favorite " thing. Owners and staff just delightful. Definitely worth a 50 mile detour to dine in and enjoy this beautiful place w/ exceptional food. read more

Nice little place to get a drink with friends. We wanted to end the evening with a beverage and a dessert, and Shindigs was close by so we stopped in. This place serves real food because it's a restaurant, but I honestly could not tell you anything about the restaurant menu. I was only looking at the cocktail and dessert menu! They only had four desserts available when I was there. I chose the lemon cake with blueberry sauce, which wasn't on the menu but was a special. Yum! I love citrus and blueberries, and this hit that light and sweet spot. Someone at my table got the Apple Dapple, a slice of apple cake which is served with vanilla ice cream and drizzled with caramel. That dessert was good, too. I usually would have just ordered a glass of wine, but Shindig isn't really a wine place, so I got an Old Fashioned. They do cocktails and beer here, mostly. Shindig has two floors, and we sat on the first floor where the bar is located. There's lots of seating in the bar, either bar-top tables or booths. read more

I even went out of my way to praise the staff and manager because this is so rare now a days. The decor is lovely, rustic, fun, the music isn't too loud with a good vibe. First of all it's a small town. There's not a lot of choices for food. What a hidden gem. The food was amazing. We had the fried string beans. They are fried in house made batter and served with a hot honey drizzle and a side of house made ranch. YUM! Then we shared a chicken frizzled chicken. My only wish is I could have eaten more. So good. Oh and it's not a whole in the wall. The ambiance was so cute. It sounds funny but make a reservation they are busy. I would have given a 4 because waitresses could have been more attentive but like I said they were swamped. It was Saturday night!!! Went 12/27 around 6ish, very busy, since there was a wait we sit at the bar. The food was delicious, the two bartenders were very good & very nice. They took very care of us. The only good thing I really have to say about the place is the waiter was fantastic but the atmosphere is busy and loud, I know a lot of people like multiple TV's and noise but it is not what I like when going out to eat. The first thing I noticed, walking into shindigs was the ambience, everything about this bar is jaw dropping if you are into architectures, construction, or design... I sat at the bar and spoke with the bartender Alyssa who was a great host. She gave us a tour of the whole bar when she saw how in awe we were. I had the brisket burger the first day and thought it was very good . I liked this place so much that we went back for lunch the second day we were in town. Sat at the bar in a mostly empty restaurant. Bartender did her best to ignore me, but we were finally able to order. Watched as she committed several hand washing violations, like eating and playing with her hair and then working on drinks and food. I also got to watch the drinks being made, not impressed. Empty drinks? We had to summon her to get another. At least she was pleasantly oblivious. Took 30 minutes to get a chicken sandwich and a cup of soup that was already made. For the wait, the food was ok, but cold. Unfortunately I didn't have time to ask for it to be heated up. Don't bother. If you have time, just head a few minutes north to Derby or Wichita. This is the third or fourth time we've tried this restaurant and we've been disappointed every time. We really want to like it as there just aren't any other other nicer restaurants in town. The ambiance is great the service is okay, but the food is severely lacking. My husband ordered the steak medallions, mashed potatoes, and green beans while I just got a hamburger. My burger had a very funky taste, like maybe the grill needed cleaned. My husband's medallions were cooked well done, medium, and the last one was rare. Let's cut to the chase....The food was not bad. It wasn't off the wall super but at least the steak was of higher quality for the price, cook right, and had flavor. Green beans, too much garlic. Loaded Potato lacked something, but wasn't horrible. The tea was good. Cut back on the garlic folks. It is a great flavor booster, but to drown it in garlic takes so much away. The front desk seemed lost. Didn't offer us a booth, which would have been nice. The hard chairs in the middle of the floor are a bit uncomfortable for older folks. But our waitress, name began with a B, was pleasant and accommodating, Not sure she was worth $17.00 bucks in tips, but that seems to be the going racket anymore no matter where you go. She openly presented ticket with the 20% option selected, but that could be a company thing too. It seems to be common practice. We need to get real with the tipping people. She provided decent service for the trips she made. Finally, the ambiance...LOUD! LOUD! LOUD! Did you hear that? Nope, I didn't either, why don't you scream it at me again. May be I'll hear it then. Look, I get it. Idiots love their loud music, screaming across the table to smack their food down and have a sort of stupid conversation about how woke they are. But come on, this is ridiculous. It was so loud we all got headaches from the blaring music, groups of idiots all standing around for nearly an hour screaming at each other. It ruined the entire meal. In fact, the noise alone will be the reason we will not refer others or return ourselves. It is not enjoyable for folks to have to yell just trying to talk over dinner. I know, it ain't for talking, it's for eating. But seriously, this place is just stupid silly with how loud it is in there. Other than that, it is pretty slick and seemed clean until the dust started falling from the ceiling from folks upstairs bouncing around and moving table. I've been coming here for years and my opinion shifts on Shindigs from year to year. First, the atmosphere is always fun. Today, the food is good! The smoked meatloaf is always good. The shrooms are amazing. Some years the carrots are great others, not so much. Today, Now, the carrots are good again. The red jacket mashed potatoes are just right. The service is good today... the waiter is easy on the eyes. Four stars today. The restaurant is a bit cold and we are sitting under a vent and I'm not a fan of country music. We are from out of town and decided to try Shindig's for lunch. It has a really nice interior with cool repurposed decor. Service was quick and friendly and our waitress was really thoughtful and engaged in our experience. Apple walnut salad was really good, but apples are soaked in lemon to avoid browning which may not be everyone's jam. The wings were really good with the boom boom sauce, better wings that some bigger towns. Fried Okra was also good. Baked potato was just ok. Fruit bowl wasn't very good, but maybe that's on me for ordering fruit in what feels like the middle of nowhere. Really feels like the beef, burgers and cuts of steak will probably be the best. From our arrival at the Hostess' station to our exit the experience was very poor. Despite offering multiple upper-end burger options the kitchen is unable to cook anywhere near to order. A small diameter, tapered edge patty was overcooked at least two levels not once, but twice. What should have been an attractive layer of string fries resembled grill scrapings, and a promise of grilled onions was a sad small clump of macerated onion. The summoned Manager, with a dirty white (?) towel hanging from one pocket, unapologetically interrogated us as if it was our job to diagnose and rectify finger pointing in their business. She then gruffly asked if we wanted her to remove the refused items from our tab. Not even an iced tea (served in the smallest of jars) was comped.
