We eat here occasionally and have thought it was really good. Comparing it to the ark city El maguey, the Winfield location seemed to be way better. Today however, was not that day. I ordered tacos de el pastor. The meat that came out in it was tiny little pieces that looked like pea gravel. Not hot and very little seasoning. The tortilla around it was not hot and tasted like a mission tortilla from Walmart. I like to take my leftovers home to eat the next day, and I couldn't stomach the thought of this gross meat nuked in the microwave. Didn't realize that we had to pay in cash until we had already ate our meals and went up to pay at the front. There was a sign on the door that says "Our credit card machine is down, we would greatly appreciate to take cash." Assuming that we read the part where it said "greatly appreciated", we thought paying with a card was still acceptable, but apparently not. We ordered four carry out meals tonight and were very pleased! The food was tasty, warm, and generous servings. Two of us ordered fajitas - one order chicken and the other order steak. The vegetables weren't overcooked. The meat was tender and flavorful. Both came with sides of refried beans, glaucoma, lettuce, lettuce, and delicious salsa. The other orders were a dinner entree combo of a taco and an enchilada. And an order of a taco salad in a crisp shell and a burrito. Everyone was pleased with their meals. The go to staple local Mexican eatery. Great owners and staff make you feel like you are visiting your very own kitchen and THEY are the guests! A Mexican version of Cheers. Food is dang tasty but just a bit toned down for the locals. Service is exceptional and during the busy lunch hour, FAST! I was not impressed with this restaurant at all. I got a combo and asked for my taco to be fried flour instead of corn. She said no we can't do that. Which really irritated me because every Mexican restaurant is always able to do that. So we get our meal and there was no beans and rice with it. You have to order it as a side and pay extra. At the end of our meal I had to get up and go get the waitresses because she was watching T.V. and not helping us. She gave us the bill and it was in Spanish so I couldn't even read it to know if it was even correct. I asked her how much it was because there wasn't a total on it and she said I don't know. Took my wife and kids there for the first time didnt get a nice greeting got our menus thrown on the table the waitress didnt even wait for us to get to the table. Just threw the menus on the table and walked away. Waited 10 min and not one person came to take our drink order nor give us chips and salsa! We ended just walking out. Disappointing. Food was all below average, and not at all in a reasonable price range for what was served. My husband has the pollo loco, which was dry and lacking flavor. I had a meat quesadilla, which was basically a meat and cheese soft taco. The servers were kind and did allow us to move tables to charge a cell phone, and the service was good, which is why I'm giving them 2 stars and not 1. There is a chain by the same name in KC which is why I agreed to come in - don't be fooled though - it is not the same food. read more

Lets just say my Spanish teacher, who lives in Mexico and comes up once a year to administer the final for his class which is taught over the internet, his only complaint about the authenticity of the food was that they did not use real Mexican cheese. I pulled up to this place and the parking lot was packed, so I decided to give it a try. I walked in and was seated very quickly in my choice of a table or booth, which I was surprised to get a choice with it being so busy. I only waited about a minute and the waitress was there with chips and salsa and ready for my drink order. She brought my drink back and took my order. I munched on the amazing homemade salsa and chips and within about 10 min I was presented with my meal that was absolutely amazing. I really, really like this place! The service is unmatched by any other restaurant in Winfield - unmatched! The prices are very reasonable (I don't know how they turn a profit). The food is very good (not exceptional, but very good to almost great). And bonus, you're typically in and out of El Mag's in about 35 minutes at lunch time. I don't know how they do it. Dinners are very good, much larger portions. Their margerita's are the bomb! If you're in Winfield, you HAVE to hit this place. read more

This was a favorite of my grandkids ages 7 and 9 and this is where they picked to go when I was visiting. My daughter went also. It used to be pretty good but has really gone downhill. The waitress was TERRIBLE! No smiles, no refills on water and we waited and waited for our ticket. Finally we went to the register and they had to get it from her. She never came back and asked if we needed anything etc. My daughter has been overcharged on several occasions so we added our meals plus tax before we went up on her phone calculator. They do not give you a ticket with prices nor are you given an itemized receipt. They just tell you the amount. Sure enough we were overcharged again. It was only .65 and I didn't say anything but it makes me wonder if they do this to everyone. My meal was $9.15 and we were charged $9.80. Not a big deal but when it is done repeatedly it adds up. Needless to say that was my last visit. Just beware! read more

We visited this restaurant during the middle of the week prior to Thanksgiving because everyone is ready for something different after the usual turkey meal. We were acknowledged and seated promptly by the host. We decided to get a double order of fajitas and split it between the two of us. The portion size was extremely generous, and we took the left overs home and had another meal the following day. The fajitas were cooked a little differently than what we were accustomed to regarding Mexican food, but we liked it. I ordered from lunch specials. Order included a guacamole salad, rice, chile rellano, and taco. I received their definition of the rellano: small glob of beef smothered in a white cheese. I could only find a few pieces of chile. They said if I wanted a different version of that, I would have to order a poblano rellano. That was not explained to me when I ordered. In all fairness, the rice was excellent. The guacamole was not homemade; left an oily taste in my mouth. The taco was a tasteless commercial -made shell with a thin layer of beef and lettuce. That was it. Service was poor. Not due to an overwhelming number of people. At check- out: pure business. Not asked if everything was alright and no thank you for the business. I will never return. I remained civil through the experience but honestly, it was the worst food and I felt ripped- off. read more
