I'm from Illinois, where every other place claims to have the "best BBQ in the state," so I've had my fair share. Still, Prairie Smoke stands out as one of the best I've had in quite some time. I ordered the brisket dip. tender brisket piled on a hoagie with a rich au jus for dipping. I tried a bite plain first and it was already mouth-watering. Then I loaded it up with onions, pickles, and jalapeños and couldn't help myself. Just when I thought it couldn't get better, I tried a little of the table BBQ sauce and was blown away. Even though the sandwich was a generous portion (bigger than I'm used to), I still wished there was more. For a side I went with the coleslaw, nothing beats a good slaw, and this one didn't disappoint. Before the sandwich I also tried the jalapeño bottle caps as an appetizer, and they were easily one of the best pre-meal bites I've had. My husband had the Rib dinner with sides of Mac and Cheese and Onion Rings. The 4 pork ribs were very meaty but there was no taste, smoke or rub. I had the pulled pork dinner with sides of Fried Okra and Mac & Cheese. The pulled pork was heavily seasoned, but no smoky taste. The fried Okra and Onion rings were over cooked. The Mac & Cheese was very salty. The place is nice and the cashier was friendly and helpful. The portions are of a generous size. All in all, we would not return here for dining again. read more

Interesting place, it is in some kind of clothing store/flea market/office/event space . It is a small dining area that seats maybe 20 people and you order at the counter. The young lady who took our order was very friendly and the cook stepped out and thanked people for coming in when he had time. My wife had the rib dinner and the ribs were fall off the bone tender. The beans were unique and tasty and the okra fried perfectly. I had the most eclectic dish I've ever ordered: corn bread topped with homemade Mac and cheese, pulled pork, bbq sauce. Dine in Honestly, came here on whim. Given we came close to closing, so it was nice that it was a more peaceful dining experience which also allowed us to talk 1 on 1 (well 4) with the owner. I drove up from Moore today to check out the new Blackwell Barm Quilt Trail and to do some geocaching on Columbus Day. After spending all morning driving around town and the surrounding country, it was a welcome relief to sit down in a nice, clean place and have a good lunch. Good wings and brisket, really nicely seasoned pulled pork (didn't even put any BBQ sauce on it), but do yourself a favor and order the MAC AND CHEESE. It was beyond delicious. This local dive was not a disappointment. Restaurant was Clean and had a friendly staff. My ribs were fall off the bone tender with a dry rub that made me say Mmmmm. This place is in my hometown of Blackwell. It's a hard working town that hasn't had the best of luck. Most move away but some stay and believe they can improve their town. This is a new BBQ joint that will bring people back to Blackwell. The location inside a multi shop building is different but it works. Make your way past the foo-foo chick stuff and you will find a real deal joint. They want you to love it and try hard to make you feel at home. A sampler is my go to give em a shot at any BBQ place. Holy Cow! My food came out on two plates. No way I could eat it all but I gave it a try. As you can tell by the star rating I really like this place. You should be full when you leave a place like this, lickin fingers and grinning. My only complaint and to be honest it's nitpicking but give me ranch not buttermilk ranch. So so good! Everything has so much flavor! We had the sampler plate plus an extra side (beans and potato salad). It was only $21 for the sampler meal (pretty cheap) came with about 5 items. Second bbq joint we've tried in4 days and this one was a bit of a disappointment. Ribs dry, potato salad passable as were the baked beans and Mac/cheese. People were very nice but one pointer to them I'd leave the ribs in a slab and only cut per order. Stay a lot moister that way. read more
