the sign on the roof of the restaurant

This restaurant just opened some days ago and while there are kinks to fix, overall I was pleased with my meal and the service. While I am not a huge fan of fried foods, I prefer broiled seafood, but here only fried food is served. Because the restaurant is fairly new, you must give lead way on mishaps that occur. It is already made known that the food is cooked to order ... meaning everything fresh and your seafood will be hot and delicious. I ordered the porkchop dinner which comes with two chops and two sides. My family order the seafood platter which consisted of: crab cake, shrimp or oysters (your choice), scallops and one piece of fish. Also paired with two sides. All dinners I believe come with hushpuppies as well. Parking is limited, but street parking is available. If you are wanting to try this place out, I say pack your patience and if you visit on a Friday or Saturday night, your wait time can be close to 30 minutes. Have fun and enjoy life :)

Metal shaving

Not impressed. For $88 I expected more. I got pretty much one of everything: crab cake sandwich, seafood platter, flounder dinner, fish dinner, onion rings, and hush puppies. Everything was absolutely average - nothing stood out. I thought I was getting Cole slaw but instead I got what I can only describe as hot cabbage? Maybe? The icing on the cake was the metal shaving that I found in my food. I thought it might be from tearing off aluminum foil, but it was a lot thicker than that. Several inches long. Whatever it was, it's completely inexcusable. Not a great first impression. Won't be back.

Fried fish Dinner

I had She Crab Soup, Fried Crab and a Fried Fish dinner. I have just returned home from Durham, NC where they haven't heard of Fried crabs, so I have been CRAVING some! Billy, you didn't disappoint! Your version arrived via Uber Eats delivery....it was piping hot, fresh out of the fryer, and oooweee, it made me feel like I was HOME! I'm accustomed to having some additional hot sauce and vinegar shaken on mine, but I didn't mind not having any this time. The batter is actually spicy enough that you don't have to have the extra, but I love that "bite" of the vinegar. The She Crab Soup arrived in a nice sized container, had a delicious flavor, but wasn't hot enough for my taste. It was also oddly white. I would have liked to visibly seen more of the female crab roe that gives the soup it's orange color as well as more crab meat. I also missed the sherry. The filets of fish were beautifully filleted, nicely seasoned and perfectly fried. I had requested additional tartar sauce for my fish, thinking it was made fresh on the premises, and I received several packages of it instead. The Cole slaw was really good, I don't know if it's made on the premises or not, but it is really tasty. Lastly, his hush puppies are wonderful little fried pockets of cornmeal that you definitely want to try! They're the right size, sweet enough, and I don't think he uses onion in his recipe. Either way, make sure you add a order to whatever you're ordering, you won't regret it. I would Definitely recommend Billy D, a fellow Spartan's seafood restaurant as a go to for fresh seafood! Please accept my apologies, I started eating before I took my pictures!

Huge, well seasoned pork chop sandwich

This little carry out spot offers seafood platters, pork chops and chicken wings. Although I'm not a fan of their fries, their pork chop sandwich and dessert pockets were worth the trip I've been there a few times and the seafood platter is good as well and I love the hush puppies. Open until 6 on Sunday's. The prices are decent, too.

Meh.....

The fried crabs were very greasy. The scallops seem to have been cooked in oil that needed to be changed. The wait time was also excessive.

I tip above 20% 95% of the time. The food was average at best. Temperature was off on both entries. Taste was nothing special. We only had 2 mixed drinks, and 2 glasses of wine. The 1st dirty martini was made with vermouth after I specifically said no vermouth. I was billed for both. Neither martini was topped off. Both were 1-1.5 inches from the top. Wine was fine. The service was ok. Not great. The table settings are bland, and could be found in a Dennys restaurant. After a below average dining experience; I was a bit surprised with a $375 bill. Suppose I should have paid more attention to the prices for side dishes and deserts. Adding insult to injury: I somehow left my Amex behind at the table. First time in my life. Then the fun began. My wife and I called the restaurant and had to leave messages 5 times between us, to confirm they had the card and to arrange a pickup. Not one call back: in 5 calls!!! Finally ordered a new card. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Stay away from these lazy people.

We live nearby and come here…read morefrequently, and unfortunately there is one issue that happens almost every single time: dirty plates are rarely cleared from the table. The one exception was Michelle. She was GREAT -- truly great! We actually wished we had her every time. She was attentive, friendly, and the only server we've had who consistently removed dirty plates without us having to ask. I highly recommend asking for her! Otherwise, we regularly end up sitting with appetizer plates, dinner plates, and other dishes stacked on the table throughout the meal. It's gotten to the point where we joke about it among ourselves because it happens so consistently. For the price of dining here, the service should include something as basic as clearing finished plates. I've honestly never experienced another restaurant where this was such a consistent issue. We enjoy coming here and will likely continue because we live nearby, but please, please train the serving staff to clear dirty dishes throughout the meal. It would make such a difference in the overall dining experience.

Dear Skrimp Shack, I…read moreneed you to open a location in Colorado Springs. I stopped in for lunch almost completely on a whim, and somehow I have fallen in love with a shrimp and crab po' boy. I ordered the shrimp grilled instead of fried, and when my food arrived I actually laughed at how much seafood was piled onto the sandwich. Big, beautifully grilled shrimp and generous amounts of real crab meat--not a little sprinkle of crab hiding somewhere under the lettuce. So much shrimp and crab fell out when I picked it up that I basically had a second meal sitting in the basket, and the sandwich was STILL loaded. And it was delicious. The shrimp had a great char, the crab was tender and plentiful, the bread was toasted, and everything tasted fresh. Nothing needed to be buried under sauce to make it good. Then there were the hushpuppies. Apparently I have been living an incomplete life. They were perfectly crisp and crunchy on the outside and warm, soft, slightly doughy and sweet on the inside. I had to stop and contemplate why these aren't a standard side everywhere. And because I clearly hadn't been spoiled enough already, I got the strawberry shortcake for dessert. What really makes this place work, though, is that none of it feels like it's trying too hard. It's casual, clean, comfortable and completely unassuming. There's no pressure, no fuss and no inflated price tag pretending good seafood needs to be a special-occasion experience. I had a huge shrimp and crab po' boy, hushpuppies, a drink AND strawberry shortcake for $23.05 before tax and tip. That feels almost unreasonable in 2026. Skrimp Shack, I came to Virginia for work. I did not expect to develop feelings for a seafood restaurant. But here we are. Please come to Colorado Springs. I've been hurt before. I've ordered things called "crab" only to receive three lonely shreds of meat and a whole lot of crab-flavored optimism. I've learned not to get my hopes up. Then you came along, piled actual crab and grilled shrimp onto a sandwich until seafood literally fell out when I picked it up, and showed me I could love again. I don't want to do long distance. Come to Colorado. Sincerely, A newly devoted customer who now has standards

It has been nearly three weeks; I can stop thinking about No Frill Bar and Grill…read more I'm a military spouse, so I know my time in Hampton Roads is coming to an end soon. I visited a Hampton Roads Restaurant group on FB and asked if someone was visiting from out of town: What is your go-to place to take them? Out of 90+ comments, No Frill Bar and Grill was mentioned the most - six times! So when I finally had a day off and some other business to tend to in Norfolk, it was the perfect excuse to finally try them. No Frill Bar and Grill has been open for nearly 30 years by Jerry Meltsner. Jerry's nephew Jon Kliner helps co-own and manage operations. It originally opened on Tidewater Drive, but the space didn't allow for much growth - 10 years later, he moved to a location off Colley Avenue and Spotswood Avenue. Growth continued, moving from counter service to table service. The second location, at 1620 Laskin Road in Virginia Beach, opened in 2005. The restaurant's longevity stems from quality, consistency, price, service, and staff who genuinely care about the business and serving the community. I asked the server for her opinion on two options - Salmon, Shrimp and grits won. The dish was incredible: lightly blackened salmon, for once blackened food that doesn't just taste like salt. I don't dine with the swine, so I asked for no andouille sausage. The sautéed shrimp, caramelized onions, tomatoes, and spinach simmered in Norfolk Canyon ale sauce over cheesy grits and Boursin lavash cracker. The cheesy grits were smooth, and the Boursin lavash cracker was a nice touch. The Boursin added extra creaminess to the meal. The cracker wasn't really a cracker - more like little toasted bread. After this first meal, I know two things for sure: 1. I definitely understand why it is such a local favorite, and 2. I will be back.

Service is prompt, salads are good, parking sometimes can be an issue due to the narrow streets and…read morelimited parking.
