You know that misconception about English food being bad? Just go ahead and throw that out the window right now. This is a new world: a new time. Once I start class I lose my appetite, which requires a good, hearty breakfast and coffee to start the day: Bill's really was the perfect place to do that. Never mind the warm hospitality, the comfortable and cozy seating, the food was delicious every.single.time. They also have some cute novelty items to shop for. Locally made. When in Rome, do as the Romans do and enjoy a proper English Breakfast. Connect to their wi-fi to catch up on the day while not feeling rushed by the serving staff and enjoy looking out the window and people watching. I cannot recommend this place enough; no Fawlty Towers cuisine here. Cheers!

We were there with my girlfriends to have a breakfast when enjoying time in Oxford. Actually it was the first time in my life I tried porridge. I was kindo suspicious to this kind of meal.. But.. Porridge with maple syrup completely changed my point of view and since that time I am porridge addicted. You definitely should go there, it is calm with beautiful interior and delicious stuff!

Nice decor, reminiscent of a saloon in the American West. We ordered the mac and cheese and the monkfish stew. The mac and cheese was amazing, and I know my mac and cheese. The portion didn't look that big when it came, but it was densely packed underneath those panko bread crumbs. There was gooey cheese, leeks, mushrooms, spianch maybe. I was full. I am less enthused about the monkfish stew, which as the previous commenter mentioned, is sparse on the monkfish. There might've been three pieces of fish in the whole thing. Eventually you were left with excess stew and not enough bread to sop it up. Elderflower fizz for a drink.

    Waiting area.

Best dishes we had were the Shepherds Pie, Burger, and the Chicken. Cheese stick appetizer was yummy too! Service and ambiance are great. Our family loved stopping in here while we are touring around.

This was the last place I went before leaving Oxford. My friends and I were hungry, and wanted to grab breakfast. I got the parfait and avocado toast, both of which did not taste that great. The avocado toast was really dry, and the spread was not as appetizing as I thought it would be. The parfait, while I enjoyed the fruit, the granola and the yogurt didn't mix well and it just ended up being really soggy and difficult to eat. There was also a lot of disorganization when it came down to the bill, and one of us ended up having to pay a lot more than necessary. Splitting the bill needs to be organized better. If you're in oxfordshire, this isn't the first place I would recommend.

Cute spot righty next to our hotel, but that's about it. Service was good, beer and cocktails fantastic, food was at best mediocre. Neither of us finished our food and would only come back for drinks. I had a fish sandwich with fries and it came with ketchup on the sandwich and the tarter sauce on the side??? Maybe it's my American coming out, but yuck.

Eggs Royal didn't last long enough to be photographed. Absolutely stunning!

Breakfast was absolutely stunning. Highly recommend the Eggs Royal. Pancakes were delicious as well. Definitely one of the best places to eat in Oxford. I give it a solid 5.

Food was great but my 6 year old didn't care much for the chocolate brownie milkshake for some reason. Excellent service!

Decidedly average. A cross between Jamie's and Carluccio's. Not as good as either. The service was OK but I don't like serving staff that interrupt conversations rather than coming over and waiting to be spoken to, or even just saying excuse me rather than launching into what they have to say. I had the liver pate to start and it was nice but the bread was very think slices of french bread that had been heavily toasted so it just crumbled when I tried to spread paté on it. My main was the burger which itself was fine but there was no mayonnaise in it (contrary to the menu) and the waitress didn't believe me when I said there wasn't - I had to show her. The burger bun was cold and the chips came in a silly enamel bucket. They were at best lukewarm. A friend had the monkfish stew which he said was nice but rather sparse on monkfish! Desserts were fine - I had the Eton mess which was very tasty if a bit of a small portion. This restaurant is fine but I'm not sure it will compete in Oxford. There is much better in Oxford for the same amount of money or less.

Had the vegetarian breakfast and scrambled eggs. My poached eggs were almost cold, bubble and squeak and mushrooms were luke warm. Nice idea for a vegetarian breakfast combo with hummus spread on one piece of toast and guacamole on another but not the best execution of a dish. I was told the scramblers were "ok". This new branch of Bills will be a hit before too long I'm sure. The ambiance of the place is very airy and relaxing. Unfortunately, the food on my visit didn't quite match the attention put into the decor. Still I have high hopes for Bills.

Perfect location (not far from the bus station). Great decor, good service, food at decent prices, the only downfall is that they were out of most of the things in the menu - I was craving for char grilled steak and chocolate brownies but settled for rib eye steak and pecan pie. My food was cooked well and was served quiet nicely. I will definitely visit again.

Since Oxford University draws people world-round, it's hard to tell if the French accents and real or for the benefit of patrons. Several of the waitstaff and counter staff in the bakery/coffee bar did their best to make us wonder. I had scrambled eggs, done perfectly evenly yellow, with crispy ham and a crusty whole wheat toast. Full coffee options from Americano to Espresso we're available, but I chose an pot of breakfast tea. Their handless cups are Belgian tradition, and the cups for coffee are and closer to a bowl. A great way to warm hands while sipping. Breakfast options include Shakshuka, avocado toast, baked eggs and salmon, and many traditional and healthy options. As we and others were taken to tables, we wondered about their "system" as couples were sometimes seated at small tables, and sometimes at a large "community" table in the middle. Initial service was fast and food was also delivered quickly, but we saw at least four table who had to approach their server to ask for the bill, and as we grew weary waiting, I did the same. Perhaps they don't want to rush people as the restaurant had ample open tables, but it seemed like a general lack of attention. We returned later for take away, and I recommend a visit, but you too may need to ask for the check when you are ready to pay.

Not that it matters since this is a global chain, and I'm sure most of their food is supplied and not made in-house other than slapping sandwich ingredients together. This place has plenty of inside and outside seating, which they maximize to the point where if you're sat at one of the crowded inside tables, you'll be knocked and nudged every time a waitress or fellow patron gets up. My chair and elbows were getting knocked every 5 minutes or so, and I'm far from being hefty. Portions are very small for the price. My toasted ham & cheese croissant was an emaciated and flattened sandwich with scarcely any filling hanging out. The "mixed salad" that it came with was literally 3 tiny leaves of mixed greens. Such a sad sight. Even sadder was how chewy the croissant bottom was. A fresh croissant is light, flaky, and almost melts as it disappears in your mouth. This was more what you get when you microwave bread, dry and chewy. p.s. Gluten-free bread alternatives available.

What an awesome tea room! Literally on the Thames!…read more 7 of us booked a table for brunch and were not disappointed! This is quite a big barge and seats about 20 people comfortably, offering a great range of cream teas, sandwiches, breakfasts and drinks. A little quaint, traditional barge tea shop. The cups and saucers are just fabulous and the coffee mugs are varied - all adding to the variety and experience of this wonderful place. The tea is served in leaf form so you have your own strainer, which is really cool! I opted for a full breakfast today which was just right! Unfortunately they had ran out of bacon but I got an extra sausage for that! Locally sourced food which was cooked perfectly from the kitchen you can see at the end of the barge. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, offering their advice and explaining the food options as well. The service was excellent and relaxed. The most important part of finishing the meal is the separation of the bill, especially in a group. However they offered to spilt this and each of us pay separately, this worked great! Overall, this is place is highly recommended for anytime of the day, relaxing on the Thames, in wonderful surroundings, watching the swans swim by.
