Didn't pay for this so already giving 100% love tea so added a little oat milk to my assam yum yum yum the vegan options for the afternoon tea was interesting. Scones were dry but the finger sandwiches conquered so delectable

Went for lunch while at a conference. Nice ambience, good food selection. I had the daily special fish, a cod dish. Nicely prepared, included green beans. Nice afternoon break.

High tea on a beautiful outdoor patio!

A beautiful outdoor patio setting for an afternoon of high tea. Delicious scones, tea sandwiches, and desserts with huge portions! The high tea for one person could easily serve two. Highly recommend.

Loved our afternoon tea here on a visit to Oxford. Staff was so friendly and accommodating with our big group of 15 people.

I stopped in for a drink between meals and the bar service was quick and very helpful. They have a beautiful Jamon Iberico De Bellota that tasted exquisite! They also have great deals on cocktails Mon-Friday from 5-7! Stop by for breakfast, lunch, dinner or afternoon tea!

If you're studying at Oxford.... well, I guess you just HAVE to eat here :). I mean it got the attention of my friend and I, and "we didn't even go here!" So yeah, that's how it's going down. We were visiting my friend's cousin here and she treated us to eat here as a graduation gift. Lovely atmosphere with not too many students, but more so students and their parents, and other adults. I'm really here to rave about their pizza. I thought it was delicious, massive (as you see with my photo), and I love that we got a 3-for-1 deal. No complaints! But some leftover slices, for sure. Pricey from what I remember which is why I gave four stars, but a solid choice to treat yourself out.

Apple tart?

A most comfortable and well maintained space designed within a historic building that also has a hotel. I had a dozen of the most exquisite oysters and a salad of greens mixed with lentils and more. Very tasty. Service was most attentive, prompt and friendly. They can handle large numbers of people. There's a bar within the space that has a good selection. Not enormous but ample. All staff is helpful and attentive. The only negative issue I have is with deserts. I had an apple tart which was flat, not flaky. My friend had a mousse with cherries. The chocolate seemed grainy and the cherries came directly from a can. But then, can one expect pastries in UK to resemble those of Paris or Berkeley?

Chocolate pudding with honeycomb

We really enjoyed Quod. The risotto, salad, and smoked salmon were all wonderful. For dessert, we had a very rich chocolate pudding with a bit of honeycomb on top. It was very tasty and I would recommend it! Atmosphere: 5 stars Food: 4.5 stars Price: 3.5 stars

Lamb with roasted tomato and potatoes.

This suits for a posh Sunday roast. It won't be as homey as a pub's Sunday roast, but the quality is excellent, the portion is larger than expected and the plating is lovely. The chef's suggestions (i.e. specials) are to be taken seriously. The day we dined, the special roast was beef with yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and steamed veg. The price of the chef's suggestions is slightly lower than its counterparts on the standard menu by perhaps a pound. Three of us ordered the roast, and I got the roast lamb and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food. The chef's suggestion for pudding was panacotta with fresh raspberries and mint. Shared with friends, it was gone quickly. The atmosphere is open and airy, with dark wood tables and big windows. It's very photogenic.

Food was great. Service less so even though not particularly crowded. Ambience was lovely.

Yummy food, good wine, but alas spotty service when it is busy, i.e., during lunch and dinner. Try to go slightly off hours.

The afternoon tea was great for the price. Pleasant dinning room and oysters at the bar was a nice touch.

Somewhat hard to find secret :-) well worth the time and its history. Expect mostly small rooms…read moreinside (but cool in the summertime) and lots of outside tables. Covers a fair amount of rooms/space in between the buildings etc. It's however a Greene King owned location now so perhaps not the flexibility of drinks as others. I don't try the food in this trip, but tried the Greene King IPA (the defacto US "Budweiser" sold beer in over 2500 pubs owned by them, but better than an US mass sold beer), and then a local Reggie's Turf beer. You can use the Greene King (GK) mobile app to order (QR code on each table), and there is an open bar area (with a low ceiling) to order some locals that are not in the GK app. Service is friendly and courteous! What I have experienced so far is that the WiFi is the same in any Greene King (GK) owned location :-)

We sat in the beer garden, and around us college kids chatted, a couple next to us was maybe on a first date?, just people of all types. And we drank. Drank in the warmth of the early fall day. Drank in welcome gulps, or quiet glugs. Drank away the beginnings of what would be a long day. Drank away the start of what would be a long night. Just a fun as hell kinda place. And old too. Some parts of the building have been there since the 1300s. And if you love history, or Hollywood, it's said that C.S. Lewis , Stephen Hawking, and Bill Clinton used to hang out (not together LOL). And where Billy boy allegedly "didn't inhale." Ahhh the 90s, am I right?

I expected to encounter difficulty in finding a table on a Tuesday afternoon (traditionally when…read more"The Inklings" would meet for their weekly congregations). Yet within minutes, my friend and I were escorted and seated at a table directly underneath several artifacts, photos and letters adorning the walls behind us, that once belonged to the literary giants (such as J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, and others) that once frequented this charming tavern. Once again (as was a frequent occurrence during my tour of the UK), I partook of the Shepherd's Pie and a glass of tomato juice (confession: I'm not much of a beer or ale imbiber; apologies for my ignorance to those who are true connoisseurs of the hopped and malted brews, and for the offense of ordering such an abomination in a pub...haha!). In truth, coming here was more of a pilgrimage for a life-long Tolkien aficionado, than anything having to do with drinking or eating. And yet, in raising a glass in toast to my literary heroes, in the hallowed halls where they once gathered, I felt warm sense of kinship, and thankfulness, for such an amazing opportunity.

The pubs is well lined with photos of the authors and it's a nice place to pause and wonder what these illustrious minds would have been drinking in their time. There are better pubs with better bears like The Turf Tavern, but still, the atmosphere makes this a great spot to pause, gather your thoughts and drink some real ale.
