The least tasty curry I have ever had.
    Abby M.

Decent environment, decent selection on the menu. I ordered the daily special, the 'vegetable curry' and when my order arrived I was really surprised that the vegetables were butternut squash and spinach. In addition to that, the rice was listless and tasted like it came from a box. When I asked if I could maybe order something else instead, I was flatly refused. Altogether not impressed with Jose's and I won't be coming back.

    Rigatoni al Funghi. Highly recommended!!

One of my favorite places in summertown. The staff are very friendly and the interior is decorated with pictures and mementos of great British rock artists. The dishes offered are mostly hits. The crab and avocado starter is one I'd skip. First time I visited, I had the chicken green curry, which is excellent, but heavy. Most recently I had the veggie burger with a house made soy patty. Highly recommend Joe's for a night out with friends.

The veggie burger appeared and tasted like real beef. It's offered as a single or double where you can choose from different condiments such as garlic mayo, mango chutney, burger relish, curried mayo, chili sauce, or your standard mustard. It comes with a generous serving of chips (fries). For a veggie burger, it is surprisingly filling. This place made such an impression on Ryan S. and I that we came back a second time. I couldn't do another veggie burger but ordered the Greek Salad. Prices are a little higher than other places but they serve pretty big portions. Beers are solid. Have a seat out in the backyard if the weather is warm.

Five Guys - Cheeseburger and Fries

For a "Five Guys" it was just okay. But their burgers are not nearly as good as back in the…read moreStates. I just wanted a good burger and back home, Five Guys is always a good option. They were very nice when I ordered and the menu is the same as what I was used to. When I got to my room to eat, the burger looked exactly as I expected... until I began to look at it. The lettuce was just a single piece of sort of wilted iceberg lettuce. I'm not sure why they couldn't have included more and used fresher lettuce that was crispy and crunchy. I ordered my burger with jalapeno and I assumed since it was on the menu, they would put them on. I found one slice of jalapeno. And yet I had ordered it with no mushrooms and it was full of mushrooms. I realize mushrooms might be more common place over here, but I specifically asked for jalapenos. The beef also was a little less than desirable. I never thought there would be such a difference in beef, but it lacked the flavor I'm used to back in the states. And coming from Texas, the beef is fresh and certainly has a different taste to it. The burger was hot, fresh and looks amazing. But the taste was bland, the lettuce wilted and sparse and they seem to hold back on toppings (jalapeno). I also ordered fries which Five Guys is also very know for. They were cooked well, but taking ketchup was a bit of an ordeal. They have the traditional small paper cups for eating in. They also seem to have small plastic containers with lids but you have to ask for them and when you do, all I received was one and this was for a medium order of fries. I do not know whey they don't have them available to just use at will but if I have to ask, why not give me a few or even ask me how many I want? I was only able to get one slice of jalapeno and one plastic cup for ketchup. I'm not sure why this place is so restrictive. Back in the states, the burger would have been loaded with jalapenos and I would not have to ask for the plastic cups. If you are coming to Five Guys and you have never experienced it... I would just say this place is average and does not truly represent the type of meal or service you would receive at a Five Guys in the states. It was disappointing as I was really craving a bit of food from home and instead, received something less.

Having explained 4 times to the staff that we were going to have lunch there, but having walked for 15 min from the Natural History Museum to the store, saying to the till staff we were coming back and just running to the loo; the manger came over and blocked us from proceeding! He explained I had to buy something before the boys could use the toilet. I said things were desperate and we needed to go now. My 3 year old was sobbing saying he needed the toilet. The manger refused to allow that. So we left and ran next door to the Wimpey who were very happy to accommodate. Even with very low expectations of the fast food industry what kind of person does that! What kind of firm employs those people. So having had a family tradition of every school holiday going to the museums in Oxford and getting a burger before getting the bus back to Woodstock, I will never ever ever set foot in a Five Guys again. Black listed! Well done mr manager! Employee of the month! I implore everyone who reads this to avoid this store at all costs and show them children are at least as important as profits!

A triple whammy, really. We found a number of options but, really needing to book somewhere due to having to get the last bus / train back to Haddenham, we decided on Branca. After a quick drink at the Jericho Tavern down the road, we walked into Branca and were seated immediately; very efficient. Menus were distributed, wine and water ordered, and then our order taken. Service was friendly, if a bit stilted when it came to drink delivery. A great feature here is that the starters can be ordered in tapa or 'full starter' and the mains can also be ordered in different sizes. I had the red pepper, mozzarella and pesto as a tapa - it was an excellent size to start, though lacked in any notable flavours. Despite eating my body weight in it on holiday I couldn't resist a pizza - pepperoni, fotina cheese, chilli and spinach. It was spicy but well balanced, and very well turned out for a restaurant pizza. Pasta and risotto around the table looked equally tasty. It's a lovely location and we enjoyed the laid back atmosphere throughout the evening. We didn't feel rushed and could really indulge in our meals. Branca was a good first step in exploring Oxford but I'm looking forward to returning and trying somewhere new.

The food was fine; not remarkable, not absolutely no complaints. The atmosphere was pleasantly upscale casual - this isn't a diner or cafe. What I loved was the attention to making kids welcome: we got high chairs, colouring books, crayons, and a kids' menu full of things I'd eat (rather than just the typical kiddie-food crap). I'm always eager to find a restaurant that manages to be family-friendly without being kiddie-centric. I'll be back.
