This is a good reliable locksmith with an actual brick and mortar shop AND van service as opposed to the characters running around with a UPS store address and you rolling the dice with who will show up in a van to help you. I took a deadbolt in to rekey to match some other keyed alike Schlage locks I installed and they rekeyed it very quickly while I waited for a pretty fair price. I was greated immediately after walking in the door by one tech while still working at his station. Friendly quick service. This is a great place to have keys made. My old finicky Honda needed a new key for the doors/trunk. I went to several dealerships and hardware stores and none were able to make a working copy. These guys were able to sort me out and also helped spruce up the locks on my car. We did run into a little problem with one of the copies, but they fixed that for me with no charge. 10/10 service. read more

I just stopped in to try to pick up a set of keys and the parking lot was full so I pulled up on the sidewalk. When I walked in the door the guy who was working said "first of all, our parking lot is over here and you can't park there," in an extremely rude tone. I started to say "okay no problem I just wanted to quickly ask a question," but before I could even finish the sentence the guy interrupted me and rudely said "I can't help you until that car is moved." I said to him "no problem, I can move it but your tone is really poor," and he said "I'm not talking to you until that car is moved." As I said "Jeez this is really poor service," he cut me off and said "alright then have a great day" as he walked away into the back room - again in an extremely rude tone. If I was parked illegally, there was a much nicer way to handle it and I would have gladly moved. Something like "hey, we have issues with people parking on the sidewalk all the time... can you please move your car and then I can help you?" The parking lot was also full so I don't know where he expected me to go. It also would have taken all but 5 secs for him to answer my question. I would not recommend this place as it seems like customer service doesn't matter to them. read more

I went to Bill's locksmith in Kent today to get new keys with the key fob built in to get cut and programmed. I was informed that they do not cut and program customer provided keys! I asked if they carried keys with built in fob's and was told they don't. Kind of useless when you have to get the key and a locksmith won't help you because you didn't buy the key from them! There are other companies that will do it like Discount Locksmith that will cut customer provided keys! read more

Called to have my deadbolt re-pinned as I had lost a copy of the key. Living in Kent, I didn't want to take any chances. Bills was the first to pop up in my search with a high recommendation. Wow, as a seasoned professional in the commercial security world I was stunned by the less then professional call I just had. Was looking for someone to service a mutual customer and the total lack of understanding of Commercial Secure key systems was challenging to say the least for a company in business over 40 years. Then a threat to lie to the customer about availability of High Security products put it over the top of acceptability. There is a reason we only partner with true professionals, I'd highly suggest if you need a high level of security look elsewhere. Good news is it only takes a quick calls to the Manufacturer to find a real Commercial Locksmith locally. Turns out there are many right here in the Kent Valley. Do your research, they maybe ok for homes and cars, but lack the knowledge and skill to support the Commercial products we use. read more

I called this business and spoke with Joseph, who said he had taken over the business from Bill. I proceeded to explain my problem with my vehicle's key fob and ask if they could help me diagnose the problem and possibly reprogram a key. Joseph asked for my address and said they no longer allow customers to come in person, just mobile service only. He asked for my address. I said that I didn't want to give the address until I could receive a price quote for the service. Joseph immediately hung up on me. I called back hoping we had just gotten disconnected and asked him if he had hung up on me. He said yes. Definitely would never contact this business for their terrible customer service. I've been to Bill's many, many times over the years, mostly for key copies and a few rekeys. Each time the service has been prompt and friendly and I've never had any problems with their work. They have a very nice selection of the "fun" coloured keys, which I really enjoy! I can't say how "average" prices are since I haven't really shopped around, but I always end up paying less than I thought I would, so that's an A in my book! My most recent key copies with the novelty keys were just under $5 each. The main downside is the location. It's pretty much impossible to take a left in or out of the lot and the lot is seriously TINY. That said, you can easily find street parking on the next block (Bridges Ave) and walk over there. read more

Went up to the counter and asked the guy behind the counter if Bill's Locksmith could program a key fob to my car. The guy took one look at it put it back down on the counter and said "nope". I asked why (thinking I had the wrong key fob). His response was that they won't program anything purchased anywhere else but their shop. Really? So because I didn't buy a key fob from you then that means I can't pay you to program it? Seems pretty petty to me... So, I went down to Sunset Chevrolet and not only did they say they could do it no problem but when they were done they insisted on not charging me anything. read more

I've gone to Bill's several times over the past few years for various needs: copying various odd keys, getting some prankster's obstruction pulled out of my car's door lock, getting new keys for an old key-less ski rack. Their work always has been professional and guaranteed. I moved from Maple Valley to Renton; still drive down here to get keys. Apparently brick and mortar locksmiths are a dying breed; I'd rather do business with someone who can't hide in their van. After reading all the 5 star comments I did laugh at the single one-star comment (2010), complaining that a "key didn't work after 90 days". Keys don't quit working unless you sit on them or otherwise bend them. If you abuse your keys don't expect them to keep working... Recommend Bill's without reservation. read more

I emailed a second time after two days, still no reply. I called Friday after giving this business all week to reply and oh so sorry , have a nice day BS. Had to have a key made for the Devilmobile (since both were stolen in a home invasion robbery....) it was to expensive to change out all the locks so just got the key code from the dealership (after a lot of hassle). Didn't get the key like I had (with remote door openers - they wanted way to much.....). Did get 2 ignition/door keys and I felt I was overcharged - not impressed with their service. I have a 1991 Chevy cargo van. I had to replace one of the back doors and was having numerous problems with the lock on the one I replaced. They made me a code key to replace my worn out original one, found the right lock cylinder and rekeyed it to the code key. They installed the new lock cylinder and then fixed the rest of the locking mechanism. Friendly and very knowledgeable. The back door now works beautifully. Thank you so much! read more

Rude and overpriced. After a lengthy conversation at the counter about whether or not a basic transponder key would turn off the car alarm, the counter gal said it should, but no guarantees. Assuming they were the experts, I was comfortable enough to have two $90 keys cut. They didn't turn off the alarm. I came back into their shop thinking, "My bad, I should have had only one key cut as a test key before buying two, but, surely, with their years of experience in cutting car keys they would have suggested the test key idea if they hadn't had overwhelming success in providing thousands of keys over the years. Maybe they can reprogram the keys, or maybe the keys are defective." I was even willing to buy the more expensive four-button key ($240). I asked the counter person if there was a possible discount I could have because of the less than full functioning keys. She fetched a fellow who had "Bill" on his shirt. I asked if he was the owner and he said yes. He said there would be no discount, that I was "foolish" for not knowing my car, and that I was trying to hustle him. I left. After a few calls, Milo's locksmith in Puyallup said they had a four-button key for $120. 'KeyMe' came to my house and cut a full-functioning four-button key for $120. Real locksmith shop that sells high end locks, re-keys locks and makes keys that work. I recently bought a house that had all the original door locks from the early 60's on it. I had 12 different keys to the various locks around the house and shop. I brought one of the very cool lock sets into a big box store to see if it could be re-keyed without any luck. Bill's was able to do all my locks and also had some new/old stock deadbolts that matched my handles (from a company that no longer makes locks). I now have one key that fits all, great looking locks both old and new and feel secure in my home thanks to the helpful people in this shop. read more

No too impressed with this place. Went to get 2 sets of key copies made. $5 per key for one of the keys. Paid about $20 for 4 keys. Two of the 4 do not work. The 2 that do not work are mailbox keys. He said he was not sure if they would work and said they keys were made in China! Called to get a refund over the phone for the 2 non-working mailbox keys. They refused and said I needed to bring the keys in. Not sure what they are going to do with them? Wasted $10, not going back. Feel silly for not reading the other Yelp reviews!
