Great service, Bills is a full service key shop has all the everything in stock. They stand behind their work and will remake any key at no charge. Staff is friendly and knowledgable. Good location in downtown Madison. You can schedule a service call for a price quote, prices are fair. read more

I have used them since the 1970's. One time I left work and went to lunch and when I got back in my car I could not get the ignition key to work because it was so old and worn out. Finally I messed around and got it to go. After work I walked over to Bill's and they made me a new key just using the VIN number and it worked great! I would never use anyone else. read more

My son locked himself in his bedroom. I didn't know what to do. I called Billy's and they responded immediately. They first helped using FaceTime to examine the doorknob. Then they sent someone over pronto. My son was freed in minutes. We all cheered. Excellent service all around. They also shared tips and greased the knob to prevent a repeat in the future. Thank you!! read more

Bill's Key Shop - Door knob, locked door. - Keys & Locksmiths Near Me - Madison, Wisconsin

Bummer, I called early and they gave me the impression that they could install a deadbolt on a door for me. They wanted picture emailed to them, and please do it quickly they would try and fit me in today or tomorrow. I took pictures, sent them and waited for 3 hours. I finally called to be told by another person that they couldn't get to it for at least a week. I was in the situation of not feeling safe and needing locks added, who the heck when they are in that situation wants to wait a week? In fact I can't think of any situation involving keys and locks i would want to wait a week. read more

Went in for a couple of spare car keys, walked out 5 minutes later with working keys. Fantastic!

Efficient, wore mask, friendly!! We were locked out of our brand new house with a trailer full. I called Bill's & they set us up. Joe arrived before the scheduled time after he rearranged his schedule for us!! Thank you!! read more

These folks are so nice, down to earth, and efficient. I went here for the first time to get some keys copied. They were a little cheaper than Home Depot and some of the other key places in town, but it just felt so much better to walk right in and get exactly what you needed, not to mention support a small business. Just a good, old fashioned small business right in the heart of Madison. read more

Here I am in the Trader Joe's parking lot, excited to get my shopping done before the Sunday crowd. I walk up the steps and realize my keys are not in my hands or purse, I was too focused on making sure I had the Trader Joe's Flyer so I could get all the new stuff. Panic ensues. I turn around and see my keys laying right on my driver's seat. My sister who has my spare keys is out of town and I'm helpless. All hope appears to be lost. Thank god for the internet device in my hand so I can send snaps to everyone I know. Suddenly I remember locksmiths exist. I open up Google and click on the first one that appears to be open 24 hours. Here's where Bill enters the story. He answers right away, says he'll be there in 30 minutes, and he was there 30 minutes on the dot. Two minutes later, my keys are in my hand. Problem solved. Bill saves the day, all before mass amounts of people show up at Trader Joe's. read more

Bills Key shop came out late on a Friday. My key snapped in the front door. The locksmith was able to make me a new key on the spot. Thank you! read more

Bills Key Shop saved me yesterday morning! Beyond that, he came within 15 minutes of me calling. No hesitation to help. Got my car open within 3 minutes and I was on my way. He was so friendly, and when he told me the price- I was shocked at how inexpensive it was! If you're in Madison and you're a dummy like me- CALL BILL! read more

Fast. Reliable. Dead-on with estimates. Do what they say they will do when they say they will do it. Staff provides helpful suggestions on how to be cost-efficient. I've been using Bill's Key Shop for years and they never disappoint. read more

Don't call this guy I can't even give him one star. His ad says that he's 24 hours and to call his number on his message it says if this is an emergency keep calling back so this is what I did I kept calling back this guy when he answered was so rude to me he screamed at me and demanded that I stopped calling him because he can't help out obviously the other person that was making phone calls must have reached him as well unbeknownst to me. However no matter what this is not how you should treat customers don't call this guy cuz he's a jerk! read more

Needed a key for our car as the only one we had was lost in the snow. Contacted them and within a few hours they were here with a key and programmed it. Cost was very reasonable compared to other companies we had contacted, especially since we live outside of Madison. Fast service, friendly staff and very reasonable prices. Will definitely contact them again for any key issues and would definitely recommend to anyone read more

For the first time in my life, I had locked my keys in my car last week. Being after 5pm, not a ton of folks were out and about, especially in Fitchburg. I had called another shop who recommended Bill's to me. They got there in an hour, and easily unlocked the car in under five minutes. It was a little more expensive than I had expected (though I didn't ask for a price beforehand) and took a good while to get down there, but aside from that, good service for sure. read more

This place is a Madison institution, that has been at the same location for as long as I can remember. Located downtown, it is literally a hole in the wall. They seem to be able to do anything lock related, from cutting keys to rekeying or rebuild locks. They have mobile locksmith services, for installation or 24 hour lockout service. They seem to be able to do anything that is lock related at reasonable prices. Give Bill's a try! read more

The only place I go for keys! Convenient downtown location, extremely affordable and fast.

Bill's saved my bacon today. No flowery language here--I needed a door open (broke my key in the lock), and the Bill's guy showed up when he said he would and promptly fixed my problem. Simple and professional. I hope I don't need their services again, but if I have a lock problem, I'll be calling Bill's. read more

I gave a call to the emergency line at 6pm and was answered immediately! The man was really kind and offered advice how to get into my lock and it actually worked! So kind and down to earth! read more

I somehow lost a key ring with a car key (with chip and remote) on it. After searching for weeks, I made an appointment at Bill's Key Shop. Joe and his front office staff were terrific. Made my key, checked that it worked, and charged a reasonable price. I hope I don't lose any other keys, but if I do, I will definitely call Bill's. Terrific service! read more

They were fast and inexpensive at making a key for my car, even though it required recoding the existing key. They even lubed the locks because they've seen a lot of problems with Hondas needing lube. read more

Excellent customer service. Yes, a bit pricier than other places in town but well worth it for the quick, courteous, and knowledgeable service. read more

As much as I would like to endorse a small, local business I had a fairly disappointing experience with Bill's Key Shop on University Ave. Apparently because the now bankrupt Saturn manufacturers were difficult to deal with, it's perfectly okay to be completely uncooperative and rude to a Saturn owner. And this was following an email exchange where I was clear about the make and model of my car before I went out of my day to visit their shop. I did find someone else who was happy to have my business instead. read more

Returned home from a business trip and realized I'd left my keys at my host city. Called the locksmith at 11:30am on a Sunday and within an hour someone was at my apartment on the west side and had gotten the door open for under $100. I was very happy with the speed, price and professionalism of the locksmith, I'd definitely recommend to a friend. read more

I would recommend. Bill's Key Shop is quick, efficient, and provides great costumer service.

Excellent job-came out right away. Had a doorknob that matched our bolt lock and changed the new doorknob to same key as old one so we didn't have to replace keys. Much appreciated read more

I contacted Bill's about a sliding patio door that would not lock. They requested photos, easily emailed. Then I got a call from them, suggesting an adjustment within the lock. It worked! No cost to me but my sincere appreciation. Bill's has earned my recommendation. read more

Key ignition cylinder was locked on my car, the technician got it fixed in a matter of minutes and didn't push for me to have it replaced (though he did offer that service if I chose). Took AAA discount, I paid nothing out of pocket. Great service, fair dealing. read more

After locking myself out of my house, I was reccomended to Bill's. The locksmith was at my house in about 30 mins, and had my door opened in less than a minute. Very friendly, quick service. A little pricier than I hoped, but they told me upfront what the price was going to be, so there were no surprises, and, since the door literally took a few seconds to open, I was charged $5 for the opening fee instead of the $10-20 that was quoted. Overall great service, would definitely recommend them! read more

Bill's on University and Francis is the place to go for tough motorcycle key issues in Madison. They've helped me out several times over the years, from making a new key from scratch using just a ignition lock cylinder on a vintage Yamaha whose original keys had been lost for decades (less than one day turn-around), to reverse-engineering a worn Kawasaki key (so bad that it'd fall out of the ignition on the highway) to get the cut pattern and manufacturer's key code and then making a perfect new key to the factory-original specs (on the spot in about ten minutes, with no appointment). The prices are always very reasonable, and they are willing to keep on a tough task until they get it solved. read more

Outstanding customer service! I moved into my first home recently, they were able to accommodate my schedule on short notice, and most importantly, they were happy to do so. I wouldn't go anywhere else. read more

I was locked out of my son's apartment. I lost the key somewhere in the blding. could not find it. Called Bill's Key shop, and it was just about 6:00 pm. Someone arrived within 10-15 mins. had the door unlocked within minutes. All was good! The gentleman was very nice, didn't take advantage of the situation. I had asked for charge up front to know what I was getting into, and he stuck to his price. Hopefully you won't need their service, but if you do, rest assured you are in good hands! read more

Locked my keys in my car on a Sat morning. Called Bill, who promptly showed up and unlocked my car without a problem. Paid with credit card. Was only $55, which I think was quite reasonable. Nice to have a local business help me out, and not rip me off. read more

Prompt for an evening lock-out, stuck by his quoted price, which was WAY lower than another company I called, polite guy and no hassle.
