Santa Barbara Trolley - The Court House

    Santa Barbara Trolley

Santa Barbara was a bucket list stop for my girlfriend, and we booked the 2:00 p.m. trolley tour…read morehoping for a well guided introduction to the city's history and landmarks. Unfortunately, it ended up being one of the more disappointing parts of the trip. The seating is tightly packed. I understand maximizing capacity, but at 6'6" it was not comfortable. We moved to the front right side where there is a sideways bench behind the driver, which offered more legroom. That felt like a smart move until we realized most of the sights being pointed out were on the left side of the trolley. It felt like about 80 percent of the tour was oriented that direction, which meant we were constantly twisting around and still missing details. If you book this tour, sit on the left side. The narration also felt disorganized. The driver mentioned he was reading the traffic flow incorrectly and ended up doing much of the route "backwards." Because of that, he would introduce a historical figure or landmark, then later circle back and partially repeat the same information when reaching his usual talking point. There was noticeable repetition and filler instead of a smooth, cohesive storyline. Midway through the tour, there is a stop at Mission Santa Barbara for about 15 minutes. While it is nice to get off and stretch your legs, 15 minutes is nowhere near enough time to meaningfully experience the mission. You can walk through the courtyard and take a few photos, but that is about it. The mission deserves more time than a quick pass through. In practice, the stop felt more like a checkbox than a real opportunity to explore. Another frustration was departure time. The 2:00 p.m. tour did not leave at 2:00. The driver waited past the scheduled time to see if additional passengers would join. When you are visiting from out of town and carefully stacking your schedule, those extra 10 to 15 minutes matter. Overall, for about $30 per person, I expected a more polished and better organized experience. We both left disappointed. If you want a meaningful introduction to Santa Barbara, you may be better off exploring key spots on your own at your own pace.

Once we booked, we were connected with Lindsay, who was incredibly responsive and always easy to reach. She answered every follow up question and made deposits and payments simple and stress free. It truly felt like we were working with people who love what they do and care about the Santa Barbara community. We even got to choose custom wording for our buses before and after the ceremony, which added such a fun and personal touch. On the wedding day, the drivers were friendly, upbeat, and so accommodating. They let us play whatever music we wanted and made sure all of our guests felt comfortable. I had also used Jump on the Bus for a bachelorette party and had the exact same smooth and enjoyable experience, which says so much about their consistency. I cannot recommend this company enough. Whether you are a future bride or someone planning an event, this is the team you want.

Always quick to respond, very organized and have the best communication leading up to and on the day of the events with their team. I knew I wanted to use them for my own wedding as well, which I did. They were amazing and made sure our guests arrived and departed safely and on-time. Will always recommend them and looking forward to working with them more!!

When visiting my mom she suggested a tour as one nice way to spend the time there (she had used David/PTL a few times prior and was impressed with his delivery, pricing and knowledge of the city and its more subtle parts of its history ) and we we glad we agreed. David was professional, pleasantly charming and deep knowledge of Santa Barbara area as a life time resident, and scholar in areas of architecture, history, theology, etc. He was interesting, cordial and accommodated the personal requests of some of the sights..as well as sharing some of the hidden gems,, and sort of Celebrity tour an historical significant elements of Montecito, and San Ysidro Ranch. Beautiful, informative and relaxing. Seems he is known and welcomed everywhere.. and does a variety of local city tours, wine tasting tours and all the way up to Hearst Castle. Couldnt have asked for better~! We came away feeling like friends enriched in many ways! SB is such a unique city rich in history and culture... its well worth taking a tour to enjoy a deeper appreciation and see many hidden gems you might otherwise miss. Thank you David for your time and knowledge. Be well H & Y

Full disclosure we lucked out and it turned out we (my wife and I) were the only ones on the tour, it was on a Monday so I think things were slow for them. Tom picked us up at our hotel right on time and took us to 3 wineries. The first was smaller and the most remote (Cebada). It was smaller but the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Of course we bought a couple of bottles. The next winery was closer to Solvang (Brickbarn) and Tom gave us a tour of the facility, the vats etc... He's very knowledgeable about the winemaking process as well as the history of the area etc... Of course we bought a couple of bottles. The last winery was also a horse ranch (Bella Cavali). The host Jeff was great and very friendly. We got to tour the stables and say "Hi" to the horses. Of course we bought a couple of bottles! We then got dropped off back at our hotel and were pretty exhausted. It was a great experience and we highly recommend Stagecoach.
