    Waiting for a clean four door car to replace the Alamo car we picked up in St. George, UT, last…read moreMonday afternoon. This morning we could not start the car, and roadside assistance said it would be a long time before someone could help us in Oxnard (Sunday and Boxing Day), but if someone could jump it (cousin did this- short walk away) we could switch it out at the nearest airport (1 hour away at Santa Barbara airport). Adrian, the gentleman at the National/Alamo desk, was pleasant and understanding. Pulled up our paperwork about rotted tire on Las Vegas rental, and roadside assistance report on dead battery. He also gave us a tool to measure the tiny crack from rock hitting the windshield of the Camry near Vegas. We need it for insurance, if we are going to get charged. Not sure. When Husband took pictures, crack was MUCH smaller than one that required insurance. The pleasant gentleman said it would be 20 minutes to clean a 4 door premium car for us. That is what we got in Vegas and St. George. Unfortunately, the bad & bald tire on the Accord required another rental in St. George, and the dead battery in their Camry got us here. At least everyone has been nice and efficient (including Eagan with roadside assistance who directed us here). Adrian checked us out in a white GMC Terrain - clean and nice. He also recommended Boat House for lunch. He made this a pleasant experience. I hope your experience will be pleasant here, too!

When we reached our destination, we saw that there was a bump in the well of the tire, which could result in the tire exploding on the road. We called budget and they sent out a tow truck and put the spare on the car, and then we had to drive it to the SLO budget at the airport to exchange it. We got a new car and drove back to the hotel. The next day we saw that none of the tires on the cars had air caps. We also did not drive off-road or hit any speed bumps, but a piece of plastic was dragging on the bottom of the car. We also exchange that car at SLO. Days after this terrible experience I see they've charged me an extra $150 for insurance I did not approve, and a fuel fee because we did not return the malfunctioning cars with a full gas tank. We were more concerned with getting off of the road in these dangerous cars and returning them to the office. I called customer service and they most they would offer me is a 15% discount on the fuel fee and a 50% on the insurance I did not improve. I really think I should get 100% back because the reason we returned the car early without a full fuel tank is because it was dangerous to drive and we wanted to spend as little time on the road with it as possible. Additionally, I did not approve the insurance so I don't know why I need to pay any of it. I cannot recommend anyone use budget.

Had a flat tire on 10/18; Budget helped with TOWING; Promised a replacement at Santa Barbara airport rental location. On 10/20 Been trying to confirm that they have a 'replacement (I have said any car is fine)' ready at Santa Barbara airport, Budget rental location, before I go there in person. Made about six phone calls to Budget Customer care; Spent over 90 minutes waiting on the line and then talking- issues not resolved. They have technical difficulties and the phone lines are sending a message to call back later. I have to go in person to the location, and hope they have a replacement. Avoid this car rental. Such a lousy service. They do not care about customer. Nor do they deserve your business.

The lady at the front desk (Avis) explained 20 minutes maybe, the guy with the white shirt at Hertz (they share a booth) laughed and sneered, and muttered more like an hour, maybe not at all. He they went on a short rant that they don't honor same day reservations, particularly for a type of car like a truck. There's no one else in line, I'm the only client. I asked if they could call me, they said I should just wait. Really just here for my rental, on time, and if it's 20m it's fine, if it's 40' s still fine, but if it's maybe never then I will just ask for a refund and leave -- they won't make it clear. The interaction with the Hertz employee was weird, unexpected, and he was aggressive. He actually told me if I wanted a car I should just rent it from a competitor. Definitely bad vibes and bad energy, I'm not trying to be difficult, and I am not particularly in a hurry, but just need to know whether they'll have a car or not have a car ‍ Seems like the guy (maybe a manager) in the white shirt is the aggressive, maybe on drugs... maybe just a bad moment or a bad day and he misheard what I was asking. The lady was trying to help but he was making it less clear. I don't know what they're doing. I guess this is a good place to show up for a rental and them not to have it and then get glared at for asking for one. They say this happens all the time, particularly on Thursdays. They don't honor same day reservations, which I guess is fine as long as they make that clear when you book. --- Update: I ended up with the car, after a short wait. Again I had no issue with waiting, but the treatment of the staff from Hertz (the guy in the white shirt) was anything but patient, or kind. --- Update 2: Car hadn't been washed, still had some things from the previous renter in it. Must've been a crazy day for the team or something ‍

I'm struggling to rationalize this fee, especially if your total rental was expected to be around $100. (This review is based off a reservation I had in Santa Barbara, but the company customer support # seems to be Alaska somewhere. In any case, apply this experience to Avis in its entirety.)

    We needed to go from New England to Ojai, CA and flew into Santa Barbara for the shorter drive. We…read morebooked a car online to pickup at the airport. The flight got in around 10-11pm PDT. My wife double checked that we could get a late pickup and was assured that, of course, she could get a late pickup. On arrival, we found no one at the Budget counter. The other rental companies said Budget *never* did late pickups. We called the toll free number and they confirmed that, no, they didn't do late pickups. Weird My wife went by in the morning to get the car. When she looked at the bill is was DOUBLE the price quoted. The guy at the counter mumbled something about how the terms of the contract had changed and that accounted for increased price. "We couldn't pick UP the car to begin with," she told him. Only then did he correct the price. She brought the car back to the hotel and complained about the steering. I went out and looked at the car. This is what the driver's side front tire looked like. See that not insignificant gash in it? That's a big no. Plus (and it may just be me) but the tire look fairly close to bald. We took it back and exchanged it for a new car. I showed him the photo of the gashed tire. "Well," he said gruffly, "we can't really inspect EVERY car that comes through." Really? Even at major airports, when I've rented a car I've had to do a walk around with the agent. But, heck, why should they have to insure the cars are safe to drive? They did give us a different car. "It's in spot #14." Naturally, there WAS no car in spot #14. So BACK to the counter. "Oh. It's around there. It's a Crown. Just hit the alarm button until you hear it." We finally found it. I walked back to the desk and dropped the key to the previous car on the counter and walked away. "Hey!," he called out, "is the tank full??" Let's recap - we drove the car from the hotel and back to Budget. It took about 7mins. So, yes, the goddamn tank was full. More, importantly, you gave us a crap car which you tried to inflate the price on, had to give us a newer, better car...and you're concerned about a full tank?? You had several screw ups already. Let it go, you idiot. Of course, when the bill came through it was wrong.
