Centro Toombul, which once had a big cinema, is now a shell of its former self - the cinema closed down years ago and David Jones finally shut its doors last year. However, like a Phoenix rises from the ashes, Target has now opened its doors in the old DJ's location, bigger, better and brighter than before. That David Jones was so sad and old and depressing, but the Target is huge! It has really rejuvenated the shopping centre, and I believe there is talk of a new cinema opening up in late 2012. Toombul is a great shopping centre when you don't want to battle the crowds of Chermside, as it has all the essential shops - supermarket, discount bargain shops, fashion stores, food courts, deli, bottle-shop, fruit and vege shop and more. It also has an Aldi, which Chermside doesn't have. There are a number of good eateries both in the food courts and outside the centre, including Sushi Train, Zarraffa's Coffee, Billy Baxters and Mehfil Indian. There is also a 24 hour McDonald's on top of the Toombul shopping centre.

There's a Target and a KMart for all your basic department store needs, several cafe's and eateries, a Coles and Aldi for groceries, and a whole bunch of other random stores and things to do. There's always people around, but not like going into a supermarket at 5pm when everyone is at the checkouts. The selling point of this Woolworth's is as Tenniele said in her review, is the trading hours. My only problem is actually remembering they're open. I mean, how often have I decided after 6 that I want something from Woolies on the weekend? Often (on account of my love for snacks). And you know what? They're open until 7pm. But that's just weekends. Weekdays they're until 10pm. TEN PEE EM! That's fantastic. Also the staff aren't intrusive, and it's a good sized Woolies so it has everything you need. Parking isn't difficult and it's not overcrowded. All in all a good woolies. I suppose the only thing that has stopped me from making it a 5 start shop is the fact that the staff aren't fantastic. They're not bad either though. So you know, if you're around near the airport I'd definitely make it your grocery store!

Zoom out to 'Skygate', 'DFO', whatever you wanna call it, and Woolies is there for you. 24 hours! I'll admit, it's a bit out of the way, but it's not really that far. Watch the signs though, it's easy to end up in the wrong lane and on your way out to the airport, the Sunshine Coast or the Gold Coast.

I always end up parking at the WRONG end of the behemoth single story centre (this is why building up is a good idea) and then need to do a 20 min power walk to my destination. They also seperate major competitors by the length of the centre in some kind of Highlander move (THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE), so if you want to compare Myers vs DJ's you're going to have to walk and walk and walk. My biggest gripe is the addition of paid parking. I had to do last minute wedding shopping (mother of the bride dress, bridesmaids dresses, beauty stuff - all 5 days before because I LOVE ADRENALINE) and ended up dropping about $800 there. When I left we'd been there for about 4 hours and I had to pay for parking!? Mate, here's some free advice, if I'm at your child filled, noisy, confusing shopping centre for 4 hours it's because I'm spending money there, not because I'm kicking it at the food court with my teenage mates. Plus, it's just a blatant money grab. They haven't installed extra parking or more services, they've just decided to take your money. If I was one of the retailers I'd be well pissed as I'm sure I'm not the only customer deciding to go to Indooroopilly when I can't avoid a shopping centre. I ended up sending a ranty email to centre management, and last time I was there I was happy to see that they've introduced validated parking if you spend over $150. Not thrilled though, as I think $50 is enough to warrant free parking and you can't validate at stores, you've got to go find centre management which is no doubt 3 kms away from where you're standing.

Tuesday evening was the prime time I decided to search for a green shirt to wear (school spirit and all). I left Kmart after a 15 minute trip (including parking) holding a $3 shirt. THREE DOLLARS. What. Even. So you want a bargain? Go to Kmart. Honestly. I don't even understand. I also bought my lady a pie machine for Christmas from there. I'm hoping she won't read this, but it was $12 and it's fantastic. So impressed. Kmart also has self serve checkouts for those who like, as well as normal checkouts. The staff on the door I've noticed are quite nice. There's also a Kmart Tyre and auto. If you weren't aware Kmart is actually in Toombul shopping centre, conveniently close to the undercover parking. If you've not been to Kmart for a while, as I hadn't, you really must take a look.

Two examples: Telling the checkout girl that her hair clip was nice and receiving and eye roll in return. No thank you. No verbal response at all. Disgusting. On a different occasion a lady next to me had a 'staff assistance required' message on her self serve checkout. She asked the female staff member (different person to the first girl) for help and was ignored. Her young daughter asked for help and was ignored. I, who was standing closer, raised my voice a bit and addressed her in my school teacher voice. Honestly, if I need to address you in a school teacher voice for you to do your job then you're not in the right career. I'm sick and tired of terrible service at places. But this Woolies does have everything you need. So get in, get out, and don't expect quality service.

I'm a size 8-10 and I always walk out with something I'm really excited about! They have two racks you have to check out - the "everything $2" wrack (which has some cool stuff and some of your laughable awfuls) and my personal favourite - the" fill a bag got $5!) it's always full and always has some cool stuff! I got a super cute cue skirt in there once! They are great for books too, there is a wall bookshelf that has got good quality books on it, some even brand new, and cheap as chips, only a few dollars a book for a new perfect new condition one. shoes and jewellery too, their stock is always rotating so even if you are a regular like I am there is something new for you. Not too good for furniture because of its size but there is a superstore just a few minutes drive away if you are looking for that. (lifeline superstore on sandgate Rd, also yelpable) Five stars for this little northside gem!

There are other small shops to combine such as Donut King, EB Games, Liquorland, a few coffee shops, hairdressers and salons. There is also a video shop by the front doors of the centre. And there are also a few clothing and fashion stores. There's not too much here, and it's not a "big" shopping centre. But it is quite fine for nearby locals. If you're looking for something a little bigger, try Toombul Village Shopping Centre, or Westfield Chermside. Aspley Hypermarket is also nearby.
