At one time back in the 1990s, Centro Toombul was one of the biggest and busiest shopping centres on the north side, until Westfield Chermside came along. Centro Toombul, which once had a big cinema, is now a shell of its former self - the cinema closed down years ago and David Jones finally shut its doors last year. However, like a Phoenix rises from the ashes, Target has now opened its doors in the old DJ's location, bigger, better and brighter than before. That David Jones was so sad and old and depressing, but the Target is huge! It has really rejuvenated the shopping centre, and I believe there is talk of a new cinema opening up in late 2012. Toombul is a great shopping centre when you don't want to battle the crowds of Chermside, as it has all the essential shops - supermarket, discount bargain shops, fashion stores, food courts, deli, bottle-shop, fruit and vege shop and more. It also has an Aldi, which Chermside doesn't have. There are a number of good eateries both in the food courts and outside the centre, including Sushi Train, Zarraffa's Coffee, Billy Baxters and Mehfil Indian. There is also a 24 hour McDonald's on top of the Toombul shopping centre. read more

Centro Toombul is the oft forgotten middle-aged cousin of Westfield Chermside. While it doesn't have it's big carpark and epic maze of shops, Toombul Shopping Centre has everything that you need in a suburban shopping centre. There's a Target and a KMart for all your basic department store needs, several cafe's and eateries, a Coles and Aldi for groceries, and a whole bunch of other random stores and things to do. The cinema's recently reopened up here, too. Definitely going to check those out soon! read more

When I moved into town, Toombul was a Westfield. They got picked up by Centro after that, and now they've moved on again. They're just themselves now. Has anything changed? Not at all. Much smaller, and nowhere near the range of Chermside, it can also be a lot quieter than Chermside. The cinemas have reopened here under Event, and thankfully they've had a refurbish, and it's a nice quiet spot to catch a movie. Groceries? Bi-Lo is gone, it was replaced for a while by a second Coles in the complex, but you still have Coles and Aldi. Something new is coming, we'll see. Admittedly I rarely do my groceries down here, I'll head to the 24/7 Woolies close by. Is Chermside a better shopping centre? But this is my local, I can walk here if I want to, and sometimes you just don't want the mega-mall experience. read more

To be honest, I generally dread going to Toombul. @Tenniele M. has it right when she says "Centro Toombul is the oft forgotten middle-aged cousin of Westfield Chermside." However, Chermside can be the bane of a Northside shopper's experience when you're errand running for staples. So, for staples Toombul is a closer, smaller, less-busy godsend with free parking a-plenty and no need to first stop at a barrier & get a ticket with a time-limit. Here you have Coles, Bi-Lo and Aldi, Kmart and Target. There's also a specialty grocer (Food Safari) and a green grocer in the centre. They even have an Event Cinemas onsite. Yes, it's older and a bit daggy and you won't find a selection of high fashion stores or hipster technology stores. But, good for staples. Great for pre / post Christmas rush when you can't get near a check-out at a Westfield. Also, generally have the items you want in stock due to the whole less busy-ness nature of the centre. Toombul has definitely had it's ups and downs - but I like to think it's currently on an up. Event opened the cinemas again here a few months ago. I'm yet to attend, but they look nice and clean. There's no crowd to compete with when compared to Chermside, worst you'll get is being stuck behind a slow walking pensioner. There's now a Target, to go along with the long standing Kmart. Unfortunately you're stuck shopping at Coles for groceries, or alternatively Aldi, but you win some you lose some. I usually make my way out to Toombul for one of two reasons: grabbing some quick party foods from the delicatessen, or materials from Lincraft. So if you're like me and hate the huge, sardine tin feeling of Chermside, and don't need too much more than the basics then I would definitely head over to Toombul. read more

Smaller and far more accessible than Chermside.. Yes, I wept the day they closed DJ's.. I still wear clothes I bought there.. I now go to the city for DJ's now and to chermy for the apple store... Apart from that, love the place.. And only one rail crossing and one set of traffic lights from home.. :-) Also, they have special parking spots for seniors which is excellent when I'm taking Mum out.. read more

I Love shopping at Centro Toombul. It offers a more relaxing shopping experience. I do most of my shopping at Centro Toombul without having to keep looking at my watch. This business of having to pay for parking is the biggest rip-off. At Centro I buy all my groceries at Coles, but you can also visit stores like the fruit shop, jewellers. My favourite is the Go Vita health food store where I get my protein and pre-workout. read more
