This review is for Bill Kay's online parts department. I do much of my own car maintenance, and I am a firm believer in using genuine Honda parts for all the work that I do. When I needed to order a specific electronic part for my Accord, I called several local Honda dealerships, who all quoted me around $400 for the part. I did some research online and saw that several Honda dealerships run online parts departments which sell genuine parts at a significant discount compared to the retail pricing you would pay if you walked into your local dealer. It turns out that Bill Kay also had the lowest price by far, coming in at around $250 with shipping included (other online Honda parts stores came in at around $300 for the same part). When I called Bill Kay Honda (BK Honda parts), I was transferred to a parts manager after a very short hold. He was friendly and advised me that the part # I found had been superseded, but that the updated part # was priced the same. I ordered the new part, expecting it to arrive in around a week, but it actually arrived in just 2 days! The part came packaged in a large box, and when I opened the package, I found that they had done a careful job of double-boxing the part and using plenty of packing material to prevent damage. The inner box still had the shipping label from Honda Motor Co, indicating that the part came directly from Honda to their dealership. After getting through all of the packaging, I was happy to find that the part was indeed brand-new and still in the original plastic wrap. It ended up being a very smooth installation, and I will definitely consider BK Honda when I need another part in the future. read more

What a bunch of scumbag dastardly. You tell my daughter that she needs hundreds of dollars worth of work when she had her 2013 CR-V in for an oil change. Work that we just paid to have done 4-22-25. Did you not do the work then? The same place that told my wife she needed brakes on the 2014 CR-V. The fact was. The brakes were only 40% wore and went another 50,000 miles before they needed to be changed. 2 out of the last 3 times we had the oil changed you shorted us 1/2 quart of oil. You owe us a quart of oil. They forgot to check the oil on.my daughters car when they picked it up. My daughter is calling back after the car sits and she checks the oil. These cars don't hold much oil to begin with. 1/2 quart is a pretty high percentage of the total. We were taught to start the vehicle to fill the filter. Shut it off. Let it sit while you lubed the doors and locks. Then check the oil and add as necessary. It's good practice to check the oil after an oil change, but you should not have to do it because some chissler is trying to chisel you out of a 1/2 quart of oil every oil change. I came in today and spoke with Joe not an issue as they took me for a great test driving the used vehicle that I was interested in. numbers for my trade was discussed and I was pleased about coming to a decent amount. However when the manager came over to tell me he wouldn't budge on the price of the new one giving me an excuse that's what he paid for it at auction and had to cover his dealer auction permits cost I and he wasn't making any profit. I debating on laughing in his face or saying something rude like who sells a car and doesn't make a profit. I'm one for not playing stupid games or wasting my time when you're talking almost 40000 out of my pocket. So I simply asked Joe to write everything out and I'd go over it later before making a decision. He typed everything out and was trying to be slick and added a 1500 dollar theft program into the deal and with out telling me untill I caught it. When asked about the dollar amount he showed me a flyer for added insurance for theft of the car. I started that's why I have car insurance and to remove this. He said they'd write in the deal and remove it later. Also pressing me beyond the norm of obtaining my e mail address so they can send me more junk that I don't want sent to me. Car buying is as easy and or as difficult as as the salesmen cares to make it. Due to the ridiculous comments from the manager and the lack of integrity of being up front about add on's for profit; thinking I'd sign a contract to make a commission or a few extra dollars profit, shows total lack of honesty and integrity. Treating customers like they are gullible and or stupid is just what makes car salesmen not worthy of buying a car from. as I see it, if they can't respect me and my time. Why would I spend my time purchasing a car here. As a final note if you check with the internet and other dealers you can obtain the cost of what dealers will likely pay and the original veh sticker to aid in knowing the proper price for any car. Sold me a car stayed everything was great. I asked about the truck being checked out. The sale rep told me everything was good. A little over a month the truck had an electrical problem which caused my truck to burn up. Just remember when buying cars the Rep just want the sell. Today I am updating my review because it is now Jan. 22 2020 and I have been calling to get the correct paperwork since Sept 2019 so I can get my insurance finished up and have been unable to do so. Selling ghost cars. I went to their website and found a car I was interested in. Contacted them through email and confirmed a out-the-door price. Called the salesperson to set up a time to do the paperwork and pick up the car. I'm a two hour drive away. Half way through the drive the dealership called to tell me the car didn't exist. Sale canceled. Doesn't seem like much of an inconvenience, but I had to strip the old car, gather all the paperwork, get a check from the bank, and organize another driver to take me up to get the car. That's a half day's work. Just got a sorry and an offer to sell me another, much more expensive, car! Sorry I have to give them one star. read more

Saw a truck on line and called to inquire. Was told there was some room to deal. Drove 50 miles with my son to test drive and after playing the "let me talk to my manager" game, the salesman Joe G did not come down on price AT ALL. We wouldn't have made the drive if we had known there was no room to negotiate. We offered a price and they said no, so we went home but then watched the price drop each week. I called the manager who said the salesman never told him we made an offer. Then the same salesman called back to say they still wouldn't accept our offer. Terrible people to try to deal with. Probably for the best it didn't work out. Will be looking at more reputable dealerships! read more

Had a bad experience. My van was shifting funny and the service department told me I needed a new torque converter for my transmission issues. I told them I wanted to try a transmission flush to try and see if that would bandage the problem even just temporarily because I was closing on a house and cash was extremely tight at the moment. They told me that would not bandage the problem even temporarily and they guaranteed the torque converter would fix it. They called and said it was done so I went to bring the van home, and it had the EXACT same shifting problems. I took it back and they flushed the transmission (liked I originally asked them to do), and the weird shifting was gone. They charged me $3,778.93 and were not willing to do anything whatsoever on price even though I had asked them to try anything before putting in a new Torque Convertor. I called and talked to Terry the service manager who said they did nothing wrong and in court I would lose because the van was fixed and I had approved the job. He even went as far as to say the customer is not always right and it doesn't matter if I think a transmission flush would have fixed it. I had sent a text early on the morning before they started working on the van asking them to try the transmission flush anyways and not proceed with the torque convertor but they completely missed my text message asking them not to proceed with the repair. Terry even told me that's my fault that I relied on a text (even though it is their texting system that said "you can text this number anytime during your service visit") and told me I should have called every 5 minutes and drove in there to tell them to stop rather than just sending a text. Terry said they are not willing to help cover cost in anyway and that they did everything pretty well exactly like they should have. Pierre was the most helpful but still was adamant that its not their fault at all. To be fair to Bill Kay, the van is shifting now, however I just spent close to $4,000 and I think it could have at least been flushed and got a couple more weeks or months of use out of it. Unless you want Terry the Service Manager to tell you that in court they would win and that the customer is NOT always right, I would take your vehicle elsewhere. At least in my experience the customer is not always right and it seems like they will do only whatever they want and will tell you if you want something else done to take it somewhere else. Very very disappointed in the very unpleasant conversations with the service managers even more so that the problems we had. Good luck if you take your vehicles here. read more

The epitome of a used car lot! Bought a 2017 Acadia. Had it checked out by mechanic before purchasing. He found an oil pan leak- brought it to the attention of the salesman who told me the car is "as is". I later found out that the oil pan and gasket are part of an implied warranty and must be repaired within 14 days...by law. Thirteen days later the air conditioning stopped working. I found on the Carfax that Bill Kay recharged the AC in July- just a few weeks before I purchased the vehicle. When I brought it to the dealership's attention they said my mechanic looked at it and didn't find it. Fun fact- you can't see a Freon leak without injecting dye and more Freon...this costs nearly $800. I paid for an outside company to run the diagnostics because the Clean Air Act fines businesses for recharging without diagnosing Freon as it is an EPA violation. It was a $1200 repair that took less than 2 days to find. Went back to the dealership and asked them to do the right thing since they were clearly aware of the issue and willfully hid the leak and costly repair. They offered to repair it for $1600 and cover half of it- that plus the cost of me having to diagnose it saves me zero dollars and zero cents. Ignorance is not a legal defense and as a single mom I was the perfect victim. Be cautious! Salesmen will gaslight you into believing that the dealership is responsible for nothing unless you buy their inflated warranty which doesn't cover the costs of most repairs. The upper management will stall and push the talks to lower level employees. Hoping the Attorney General can help- but Bill Kay is also ignoring their request to answer my complaint within the time frame. read more

Sam in the service department is excellent. I appreciated his service and kindness very much. The cashier who was working today 04/28 in the afternoon was rude for NO reason to my mother who was checking out before me. Apparently my mother was not moving quickly enough for her so she snapped and very rudely told her to hand over the paper right that second. Newsflash, customers have a right to review something before they hand it over. We don't have to work on your schedule. There were no other customers in line being held up. YOU are the person with a problem. My father mentioned having a similar interaction with this person last time he was there as well. Honda, there are plenty of people who can do a cashiers job and do it with a smile on their face. Lose the lady with a bad attitude and you've got a decent place I'd return to. She is the reason you are losing customers. read more

Josh & Jose & their crew came to the rescue when I was passing through the area and a threatening electrical issue came up. They got me all checked out within 30 minutes with no appointment for the emergency, just long enough for me to wander the lot and check out how slick those 2020 Accords are looking That's how you build customer relationships and it's a stark contrast to the service dept at the Honda dealer in the chicago loop that nearly got me killed with a brake issue. I'm buying a 2013 Accord Sport with a manual transmission. Not as easy to find as your typical Accord, but they have a few and their price(s) listed through their website and Autotrader are about the best around. I had submitted a price request through TrueCar and theirs came back as the best overall offer, over $700 under invoice. I received an email from them quickly, outlined my timeline and they were prompt and responsive. In the end, I'm buying from my local dealership (two miles from my home verus 160 miles), but I honestly did not expect my local (smaller) Honda dealership to step up and match Bill Kay's offer. Regardless, they were prompt, professional, and had gave me an itemized, out the door quote. If I lived closer, no question, they would get my business. This is my second Honda and I'll probably trade to another again in the future and I'll definitely look up Brent Kurtyak (internet sales manager) and their team again. Bottom line up front, if you're in the Chicagoland area, you owe it to yourself to reach out to this dealership if you're looking for a quick, straightforward price quote. read more

Very disappointed in how they tried to take advantage of my mother today. She has bought from them in the past and thought they would take care of her, but that did not happened. Tried to offer her half of what her vehicle is worth on a trade-in. As if I didn't research her vehicle before sending her out to get another car. They should be embarrassed on the offer they made. They obviously had not intentions of selling her a car today. I tried to have her go to another dealer that had better prices and more selection, but she liked the "1" vehicle they had available in her range, and she trusted them. I drove 50 miles to get to this dealer. On the 50-mile drive home the car was making a funny noise. Once I got to local roads, the noise was much worse. It turned out that when the dealer changed the oil they didn't put the bolts in the front of the splash pan, and its front edge was dragging on the ground. Had it gotten caught and ripped off the car, it could have caused a multi-car 70-MPH accident. Anybody can make a mistake, but when I called to report the problem and that I had paid $58 to have it repaired, the only responses I got from salesman Anthony Grigaliunas were "So what?" and "What do you want me to do about it?" They wouldn't even reimburse me for the repair cost, let alone have any regret that they caused such a dangerous condition. Anyone can make a mistake, but when you are paying more than $20,000 for a car, you expect the company to stand behind it. All I got was that it is now my problem. Definitely will not use this dealership again! read more

I had an issue with my Blue Tooth, and he worked with the mechanic to fix it. He could have easily said he could do no more to help me, but instead, went to extra mile to solve the problem. My senior citizen father had an interesting experience at Bill Kay recently. His car did not start on one of those really cold days so he took it in and had the battery checked. The service department informed him that his battery needed to be replaced. They gave him a printout of the test and the charge was very low. He then took the battery to Farm & Fleet and had it tested again. Their test showed that the battery was fine and did not need to be replaced. I am not sure if they are taking advantage of all of their customers, or just the elderly ones but we all deserve to be informed... read more

I bought a used Honda Civic and was told by my salesperson that they only make their Honda's pre-certified if they haven't moved them off the lot for a week or two but they're held by pretty much the same qualities. We'll call this a life lesson that I didn't think to research this better. Didn't realize until I had bought the car and was driving out that it only came with one key! I asked about that and they said, "some of the used cars only come with one key." Are you kidding me!? Now, 97 days later I need new front brakes and I'm getting a backup key reprogrammed. Please don't make the same $387 mistake that I made ($250 for brakes and $137 for the key). If you a buy a used car from Bill Kay Honda get a certified used. They obviously are not performing proper maintenance in their cars unless they have too. read more

We were in and talked with the Internet Sales Manager, Brent about a car we had found on their website. Another dealer had the same model/trim package with 10,000 less miles and a moon roof for the same price, they both had clean carfax's and we even brought all the other dealers paperwork with us. When I asked why theirs was essentially more expensive, He basically told us to go and buy it there, he did not offer to show us any other cars, or even ask if there was any way to get us in that car...he had an "I already made my numbers and don't need your business attitude"...because of this guy, I will now be a lifelong non-Bill Kay customer. read more

Once upon a time I wanted a car- but not just a car, a Honda Civic. But being the smart consumer I am, I was not about to go into this without doing *lots* of research. I knew for sure I liked the 2012 and 2013 models, needed an automatic transmission, and had an infatuation with the color burgundy. I looked under DriveChicago and found a 2012 burgundy Civic. It was certified, had only 40,000 miles, and did I mention it was BURGUNDY?! I called the dealer to make sure this gem (maybe ruby?) was still available and IT WAS. The dealer, Donny, seemed nice. I couldn't wait to give him my money! That weekend, we made the trip from Plainfield to Bourbonnais (about an hour). Upon entering the dealership, everything felt a little weird. They weren't very welcoming and it was just kind of awkward. We met the dealer I had spoke to on the phone and -plot twist- Donny was completely different in person. He kept mentioning how they run their business based on customer service, but I never really picked up on that vibe. The car smelled of cigarettes, but Donny dismissed my concern by telling me that this odor was actually him. How reassuring! Ultimately, I ended up buying the car. On the way home (remember the hour long drive?) I almost ran out of gas, like literally I had a 20 mile range left when I was leaving the dealership. What happened to running your business based on customer service? I'm sure they have some nice salespeople, like the trainee who was training with Donny, Kaitlyn, she was great. In all, I do not see myself buying a car from this odd dealership ever again. read more

I bought a 2015 Honda Odyessy van yesterday from Bill Kay Honda. The transaction was fast and easy. We live near Chicago and contacted all the dealers locally. Just for grins, we called a few out of town, Bill Kay was an extra 100 mile drive for us. I'm glad we did. Totally worth it. They were no nonsense, gave us the best price and excellent value on our trade in. They offered the usual extras but weren't pushy. Real professionals. Closing the deal took about 60 minutes. However, I went there tonight and was pretty much told this what we will give you for your trade in and this the price for the new car. Would not negotiate anything at all! Filled out a inquiry on Autotrader to inquire about a specific car. Of the dozen or so inquiries I made, Bill Kay was the only dealership to interpret that inquiry as implicit permission to add me to their marketing mailing list. A few days later we received a promotional email from them which was, comically, simply the image of their newspaper insert -- coupons to print out, clip, and bring to the dealership. This was after I had already traded emails with the agent telling him that we were no longer interested in the car. I wrote them back and told him that I didn't appreciate being added to their mailing list (admittedly, more snarkily than necessary). Great opportunity for the agent just to say, "Sorry about that. We'll take you off the list." Here's what I got instead: "Filling out an inquiry and providing us with your information gives us permission to send you emails dealing with all our services. Yes, this email is the same as our snail mail coupons, but cost a lot less. You can print this out and cut the coupons out. Getting coupons via email is what most consumers prefer nowadays. Also, if you wish to opt out of receiving our emails or any emails you receive in the future because you inquired about something else, always scroll to the bottom of the emails and read the instructions to Opt Out. We are sorry that you will not be coming down to Bourbonnais because we have some great offers all the time here. Good luck on your search for a pre-owned vehicle." My wife, in her wisdom, convinced me to archive the thread and be done with it. Three days later, I got an automated email from the same agent saying: "Just wanted to drop a quick line and find out if there are any more questions I can answer for you concerning the 2006 Honda CR-V you inquired about?" I was nicer this time. Just wrote back and said: "You can take us off your list. We bought a car." Got this in reply: "We don't pay for your inquiry, like some companies pay for the phone numbers list. Your not on any list, when you inquiry about information on a new or preowned vehicle, you gave us permission to send you information, and will continue until you have opt out. We have already exchanged emails concerning your no longer interested and you made a point of stating your displeasure at receiving mail and emails that are the same. Hope you enjoy your new vehicle. Have a great day!" I'm not sure why I persisted, but i wrote him back and pointed out that he wrote me three days after I told him that I wasn't interested. He replied: "I didn't personally send you any more emails after Nov 4 but my system did. It doesn't recognize your no longer in the market, it's up to you to opt out, as you have. If you continue to send replies, I will continue to do the same. Have a wonderful day!" read more

What ever you do, don't fall for the pressure (they do it in a nice way) of getting an extended warranty. I've tried to use my extended warranty over the 100,000 miles I've owned my car and when the few times I needed it, they only go after minimum portions of what may fix the car. They try dillegently to not use any of the money you spent on these extended warranties. It's a money making business for them, not a reassurance you will be taken care of with good customer service nor will your vehicle be fixed correctly the first time. If the purchase keeps breaking down, sell it and try your luck with a different manufacturer. My accord still has problems and I feel the dealership and/or manufacturer is hoping the mileage runs out with them not having to use much of what I paid them for their extra profit on my extended warranty because as a customer you do get tired of repeatably going back again and again to get fixed what should of happened the first time I took the car in. read more

Steer clear of this dealership. They sold us a Certified Pre-Owned Odyssey and missed that a seam on one of the cushions was totally falling apart. Told us that it was considered "wear and tear" after we noticed it 2 months after buying it. No help at all and was given the run around. Lost the chance of me bringing my van to be serviced there as well as any future purchases. Shady at best. read more

I recently went to drive a car at this dealership and worked with Bert. I was able to fill out some credit paperwork before I arrived, so Icould save some time. Bert eventually found it buried in a pile next to his desk and gave it to his finance guy. It was late int he evening, so financial institutions were closed. I was texted that I would receive a follow up on my credit status and I offered to put up more down payment if necessary. I have purchased cars from this dealership before and usually had to wait days for an answer, if I ever received one at all. But, finally, after a full week, I made the call back to check on status. Bert called me back and said that he felt the terms would be to high for me and that he meant to call me back and let me know, saying terms would be better with more money down. I was never given the chance to put more money down or say yes or no to the deal and the vehicle was sold before they even called me back to give me the chance to purchase. It is a sad day when the buyer has to do the work of salesman and try to get a vehicle before they sell it out from under you. If I did that with my business, my clients would fire me immediately. Bert apologized and said their was no excuse for what he did (or didn't do), but that doesn't bring the vehicle back that I wanted. I can't imagine I was the only one treated this way and guess that he is independently wealthy and does not need the commission. He should retire and let someone who is professional and wants the job replace him. read more

When I called to inquire about the vehicle (I live 90 minutes away), I was told the tires had at least 50% tread left, and the interior was in good condition. However, actually 3 of the 4 tires only had 4/32 tread left, and the light which illuminates the temperature control on the driver's side doesn't work, for which an entire panel would need to be replaced costing over $700. Not knowing the issues with the vehicle, I decided to purchase it, and needed to wait 2 hours at the dealership because they were short-staffed with employees to take my payment and complete the paperwork. The dealer was no help in resolving the issues. I do not recommend shopping at Bill Kay. read more

Donny McGee is great! He was so patient with me and my indecision. I would highly recommend going to see him. My fiancé had found a Tucson online and it didn't even have pictures on there it was so new to the dealership, so I went to look before I had to go to work and took it for a test drive and fell in love. My fiancé went after he got off work and Donny ran some numbers to get a deal for me. The next day I went and got my new car! I have had her for about two months and I'm still in love. Just bought a new crv from Bill Kay. Very happy with how the negotiating was handled and the price. No pressure, didn't try to up sell features I didn't want. Price was as good as bigger dealers in the Chicago area. Appreciated getting an out the door price upfront without the usual talk of payments, but never price. He took great care of me, finding out with-in 15 minutes if my terms could be met. Took a test drive (intoxicating new car smell), and all the bells and whistles! Super stoked about my new civic. Just had the car simonized today, service department is excellent ( this is my third Honda from bill Kay) always professional and polite,got me my loaner car and on my way in minutes! Bill Kay Honda provided the CarFax and over 100 pictures of the car! - The photos and the report took most of the guesswork and the anxiety out of the car buying process. Emailed them my interest, got a quick response back, put a hold on the car, test drove and bought it the next day. My wife and I LOVE the car and have not one complaint. I tried purchasing a 2011 CRV from them but they were not interested in selling me the vehicle. I contacted a sales rep and the internet sales manager directly, and both times was ignored. My reasonable offers (offering 2.9% less than asking - mind you this was simply a starting point for negotiations) were laughed at and I was politely told to go away and not come back. Avoid this place as their customer service is horrible. I wound up purchasing a comparable 2011 CRV the next day at Tyler Honda (amazing people). read more

If there was a way to give a lesser review, I would. Run, don't walk away from these horrible people. Here's the story: I do a lot for the kids at Great Lakes Naval Station. One of the kids I help out on occasion is Griffin. GREAT Kid!!! All he wants is a Camaro. He talks about it all the time. He researched this car like you wouldn't believe. How much he can afford, the insurance, everything. I was so impressed. He found the car he wanted at this jive time dump of a dealership. He called me and asked me to take him there. It's about an hour and a half to get there, but I'm happy to do it because it's his dream. We get there and I think this might work out. It was a bit strange. They told us the salesman he spoke with on the phone was on a test drive and we should just wait for him. That really struck me odd, but Griffin said the salesman was a Master Chief in the Navy, so I figured, yeah we better wait. I just thought it was odd that we weren't offered water or coffee or anything, no info on the car. It was just weird. I've been in plenty of dealerships and that felt strange, but I let it go. Finally we meet ex Master Chief Mark and he and Griffin go for a test drive. He's so happy and I can't help but be excited for him. So much so, I thought I'd cry. Griffin is ready to sign. I told him we have to be sure we get a good APR and he's all over that. Really smart thoughtful kid, much more than I was at his age. He's got his down payment and he's ready to go. The so-called salesman comes back and says that he can't get him financing because of his rank. His RANK? Then he tells him that if he can get financing they'll sell him the car. He walks away and leaves us sitting there. OMG, what kind of place is this? The poor thing is searching the internet and talking to USAA and his credit union. Both of which he went to before but they offered such terrible rates he thought he could do better with the dealer. What's worse is they told him he has no credit rating, which is a lie. Because he pulled up his credit report and saw the rating. We sat there for hours trying to work it out. They asked me if I would co-sign, which was really inappropriate since he and I aren't related in any way other than friendship. But I even tried to do that. I really shouldn't have, but golly, if this kid is willing to give his life for his country, I guess I could help him get his car. Well of course they couldn't even give him the loan even with me co-signing. What kind of banks do they deal with? For crying out loud, it's a lousy $20K. It doesn't cost anything to borrow money now. We left, no car. Horrible experience. Absolutely disgusted with the way they treated us. My favorite was when I spoke to the manager and he told me, "in 2008 we had a financial crisis" Oh I wanted to punch him in his condescending little face. So I suppose we can ask these kids to go to afganistan but we can't loan them $20K for a car. HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE PLACE. Will never forgive the way they treated him, EVER! read more

They shotgunned our credit. After we asked them not to and they swore up and down that this was something they did not do. If you don't want your credit to go down multiple points then don't buy a car from them. We bought our car at the end of February and this is mid March and we are still receiving letters in the mail from banks. read more

Pretty much like your stereotypical dealer, nice till the deal is done, then onto the next customer. Bought a used truck from them. You definitely need to know what "as is" with Bill Kay. Truck was running on empty when they turned it over the keys. I filled the tank, then had the check engine light come on during the drive home. Called them the next day, got the "as is" phrase, and "bring it in, we're competitive in our repair prices". Wouldn't return to them, as I have no trust in them. read more
