This review is for Bill Kay's online parts department…read more I do much of my own car maintenance, and I am a firm believer in using genuine Honda parts for all the work that I do. When I needed to order a specific electronic part for my Accord, I called several local Honda dealerships, who all quoted me around $400 for the part. I did some research online and saw that several Honda dealerships run online parts departments which sell genuine parts at a significant discount compared to the retail pricing you would pay if you walked into your local dealer. It turns out that Bill Kay also had the lowest price by far, coming in at around $250 with shipping included (other online Honda parts stores came in at around $300 for the same part). When I called Bill Kay Honda (BK Honda parts), I was transferred to a parts manager after a very short hold. He was friendly and advised me that the part # I found had been superseded, but that the updated part # was priced the same. I ordered the new part, expecting it to arrive in around a week, but it actually arrived in just 2 days! The part came packaged in a large box, and when I opened the package, I found that they had done a careful job of double-boxing the part and using plenty of packing material to prevent damage. The inner box still had the shipping label from Honda Motor Co, indicating that the part came directly from Honda to their dealership. After getting through all of the packaging, I was happy to find that the part was indeed brand-new and still in the original plastic wrap. It ended up being a very smooth installation, and I will definitely consider BK Honda when I need another part in the future.

These cars don't hold much oil to begin with. 1/2 quart is a pretty high percentage of the total. We were taught to start the vehicle to fill the filter. Shut it off. Let it sit while you lubed the doors and locks. Then check the oil and add as necessary. It's good practice to check the oil after an oil change, but you should not have to do it because some chissler is trying to chisel you out of a 1/2 quart of oil every oil change. That's not going to happen here. Bill is as honest as the day is long. It's the kind of place you can send an almost 80 year old widow and know she's going to be treated with respect and dignity and with the utmost fairness. And I know this firsthand, because my mother is that widow. She drives her car down from Chicagoland to be serviced by Meineke in Bourbonnais. That's how good and trustworthy these people are. In reconsidering, I'll relate just one of those "bad" experiences: After one of these "bad experiences" (a brake repair gone wrong), I was forced to take the vehicle up to one of the few Meineke Care Care Centers that had a good service rating, located in a suburb north of Chicago. After the Cook County Meineke fixed the brakes issue, the owner confided in/to me that they had fixed what was essentially a butcher job by the Bourbonnais Meineke shop. This was a vehicle--a "dangerous" vehicle after the initial brake "repair"--that we had given to our daughter and son-in-law and that much of the time had our two precious young granddaughters as passengers. In all fairness to the owner of the Bourbonnais Meineke, he attempted to make amends by giving us a $25 gift card to the Olive Garden. Needless to say, we never used it. The 5 star reviews, outnumbering the (6 or 7) 1 star* &/or 2 star* reviews, would attest to a fair amount of good experiences from a "lucky" group of patrons, so, (as Dirty Harry so sardonically said) if you're feeling "lucky", . . . -- [* The 1 & 2 star reviews--I advise you read them; there's some real horror stories in there. I was given a quote over the phone and told it could be done immediately and would take about 30 minutes. After we finished breakfast, my husband and I drove over there. The employees were very friendly and fast. They began work on my car immediately and it was finished within 45 minutes of my arrival. They had coffee and magazines and the locals (obviously employees or regulars) going in and out were entertaining and funny. The price they quoted me was what I paid, AND, it was the same price I was quoted at Pep Boys a couple months earlier. I expected them to be more expensive because it was a smaller business but it wasn't! I would definitely recommend this business and I'd much rather give my money to a family business like this, than a big chain, any day. Five happy stars.

They will tell me what things need replacing on my car (once they notice a belt was looking pretty old and after they did my oil change they told me about the belt and suggested that I have it replaced sometime soon - but didn't pressure me to get it fixed that day - and they gave me a price quote on the work. It just so happened that before I started going to Goodyear, I took my car to Midas and they mentioned the aging belt as well. Their price quote for the same work was much higher!!... I ended up getting the belt replacement done at Goodyear about a month later). Another reason I feel they're trustworthy; the last time I was in for an oil change they told me that my tires were due for replacement and they gave me a price quote. I asked if they felt I could wait until my next oil change - would my tires make it that long? They told me that they definitely need replacing soon and recommended I get the work done before my next scheduled oil change. Well, they were right!! I was out of town the other week and my car started to shake really bad.... had to take it to a shop that was 300 miles away from home (not a fun feeling!)...and the belt in my tire had slipped and I MOST DEFINITELY needed those new tires! ..should have got them at Goodyear when they suggested it. Also good things about them: *they have a Goodyear credit card that you can get if you end up needing more work done on your car than you can afford and the payments are really low on it. * they have a fairly nice waiting area with toys for children, coffee, tv, pop machine and a clean bathroom (extra points for the clean bathroom!!) * go on a Monday -Thursday and the wait time isn't bad at all for an oil change :)

That was until today when I dropped my car off for a simple oil change and tire rotation. I had no issues with my car. When I picked it up, I was informed the back left tire dragged on the way out of the shop but they "managed to break it free". Well, they sure did break it, as they failed to notice one of the studs for the lugs was loose and had backed into the drum. When I drove part of the way home, all I could hear was grinding from the rear. By driving, this destroyed my parking brake system as all internal drum parts were destroyed by the loose stud. Shop refused to accept fault and would only cover labor for the hub replacement. Now I'm stuck with repairing my parking brake system that was fully operational prior to this visit. Never returning.

OLIVET PARENT REVIEW…read more I'm a skeptic by nature. When it comes to how I view mechanic shops, I always assume they are crooks and liars until they prove otherwise. WOW! This Midas location proved otherwise 10 times over! We had a VERY intermittent problem with our A/C and we were 8 hours from home for a visit to Olivet. Jim (owner) and his team didn't brush the problem off just because they couldn't reproduce it. They dug in and kept going until they thought they had found the issue. We drove the car that evening and the intermittent problem happened again. I knew that when a problem is that sporadic that it is very difficult for a mechanic to diagnose, so I was not upset with them, but I expected for them to be frustrated to see me back the next morning. There was no frustrated, but a smiling, warm welcome and immediate empathy with me that the problem was not resolved. (AJ at the front desk is simply amazing!) They spent the day digging in again and by the end of the day were confident they had figured out the problem -- and they had! On top of it all, they could have charged me for a lot of labor for those two days of work, but Jim was so kind and I walked out having paid much less than would have been reasonable. My experience here was not simply based on the service rendered, but the interactions with the owner and team convinced me that I had a shop that were dedicated to honesty and fairness; wanting to build relationships, not grab dishonest bucks. My daughter will be beginning her freshman year at Olivet this Fall and this is where she will be taking her vehicle for maintenance and service. Thank you, Jim, AJ and the Midas crew!

I was not told about the labor charge, because I was led to believe the whole thing was "$100 . What a dishonest practice! I didn't notice a price chart nor did I look, since I trusted them.
