I came home and found Beal's Tree Service cutting down a Bradford Pear tree in my yard. The neighbors had contracted them. The tree was 10 yards inside my property line. I said to the foreman: "You cut down my tree!" He replied: "And". So I called Beal's and they said that it was rotten. Having suspected that, I took a host of pictures - not even close to rotten. On 06-02-14 I contracted with Neil Beal to cut down 5 medium size trees in my back yard. He was very eager to quote and cut down the trees that very same day. Before agreeing with his quote I asked specifically if they would be able ensure that the remaining stumps would be below the grade of the rest of the yard. Neil clarified that I did not need the stumps completely removed just cut below grade so that I could plant sod over the stumps at the same level as the rest of the yard. His crew came shortly after and made quick work of removing the trees and all debris. I asked if the trunks were below grade and Neil's son-in-law said they were so I paid the crew and they left. Later that day I went to inspect the work and found that the stumps were 3 to 5 inches above the grade of the rest of the yard (I can provide photos of the stumps). I immediately called Neil and asked if they were coming back to correct the issue and he first said that it would cost me an addition $150.00 to grind the stumps. When I reminded him that this was part of the deal he said that the best he could do is split the cost with me so I would owe him another $75.00. I reluctantly agreed and asked when the work would be done. He stated they would be back on 06-03-14 to grind the stumps I could pay the $75.00 at that time. 06-03-14 come and went with no stump grinding. On 06-04-14 I sent Neil a text asking what happened and he replied "working on it" (I have record of the text communications). On 06-05-14 I asked again to which he replied "my new stump grinder is on the way. Tuesday or Wednesday" meaning 06-10 or 06-11-14 to which I replied "ok, so no later than Wednesday? At the end of day on 06-11-14 I asked again to which he replied "working on it". I asked again on 6-12-14 because I have sod being delivered to cover where the stump are but Neil did not reply. This is a case of a verbal contract to perform services that were not completely delivered and I am now faced with finding and paying for another company to complete the job Neil had originally promised would be done. Other consumers need to be aware of this type of deceptive practices where contractors take the money and run. This needs to be a permanent part of this businesses record for all to see. read more
