RECENT UPDATES: They've repainted the exterior of this place to resemble the Green Monster, and didn't do too bad of a job of it either. The interior has been remodeled to more closely resemble a filthy shithole. Especially the "men's bathroom". --------------------------------------- This place is a hole. A dive of the first water. A sleazy, weird place where all sorts of bizarro stuff is likely to happen to you. Many of the regulars are the sorts of...ahem..."characters" that you read about in books. And It. Is. Awesome. Seriously. From the gravel parking lot just off Revere Beach Boulevard, up the wooden steps to the well-populated smoking deck with benches and ash cans...through the swinging doors into the dimly lit barroom with tables off to the right, and a "stage" area that does double duty on weeknights as a dart area... ...this place screams dive. And it's glorious. Once you've gone there two or three times, the lady who runs the lotto (oh yeah, they have a separate lotto booth for keno, like you do) will remember your name. Also, the skinny, leathery hooker will probably try to talk to you...you'll witness some kind of argument between a drunk couple....you'll get hungry and order a pizza from the place next door that has a window into the bar...you'll run out of cash and have to use the ghetto ATM in the back room with the ancient video poker/slot machines...you'll do some shots with the bikers who are playing Skynrd on the jukebox....you might even get lucky and witness one drunk chick trying to convince another drunk chick to be a stripper. Bottom line is that something entertaining always happens here. You should go. You should have beers, a couple of shots, and smoke a cigarette (I know you quit two years ago, so did I - but I can't resist a couple of drags after a couple of bourbon shots) on the deck and watch the drama unfold.

Went there to see Love Train. It's a dive bar, but comfortable and the crowd is nice. Great band!

Nice place to get a drink and look at people walking down the beach. Won't take debit/credit so bring cash, but the drinks are reasonable.

Formerly Viking Pub, Blue Sky Tavern is a lively neighborhood pub situated on Putnam Street in…read moreWinthrop. The place offers a full service bar with seating & flatscreen TV, several beers on tap, wine, spirits, and cocktails. There are also high top tables, regular tables, and lounge tables and leather sofas in the front, smaller flatscreen TVs on the walls and a shuffleboard in the middle of the room. Upbeat music is blasting over the speakers. The pub food menu offerings include appetizers, wings, burgers, sandwiches, pizzas, salads, entrees, and sides. The prices are moderate. During my sightseeing visit to Winthrop to watch the planes takeoff and land at Logan Airport, a mile away, I was getting hungry and stumbled upon the Blue Sky Tavern. I walked inside and took a seat up at the bar. The bartender gave me a food menu to look over and I requested an ice water. I decided on the Fish & Chips ($22 plus tax) with House Fries & Cole Slaw, which was served in 10 minutes after ordering. Served on a square plate, the portion size was good, which had a nice sized fried crisp battered haddock filet, golden fries and a cup of wide shredded slaw with cabbage & carrot, tartar sauce and lemons on the side. The haddock and fries were deep fried very hot and to perfection. The haddock was soft & flaky, good dipping into the tartar sauce and ketchup. The standard house fries were hot and crisp outside. The slaw with a light mayo base was crunchy. After I was done, I got the check which was $23.38 with tax and before tip. Overall, stopping in at the Blue Sky Tavern was a nice surprise for an early dinner since I was initially going to stop at a chain restaurant in Revere after watching the planes in the sky. The service was friendly and I would stop by again for food if I'm in the neighborhood.

I was not very impressed by Dryft in Revere, MA. My sisters and I were meeting a local friend here…read morefor dinner. We had a reservation and were seated right away and with water and menus. One half hour later, our waitress finally came to take our order after walking back and forth ignoring us for that 30 minutes. When our waitress took our orders, there was no apology for the long wait either. The food we ate was good, but not worth the wait. The portions were generous, and I couldn't finish mine. One sis ordered lobster roll with slaw, pickles and fries. She found it to be underwhelming, particularly the texture. I had the Dryft cheeseburger covered in caramelized onions and fries as a side. It was a big burger, well cooked, and I deconstructed it, to have less bun. The plentiful onions were a nice addition, and I liked the fries. The other sis ordered chicken under a brick, which was a fried boneless chicken breast under mashed potatoes, chicken jus, and brussels. She substituted asparagus for the brussels. Sis was highly satisfied with her whole meal and ate it all. Our host had a salad, but I didn't catch which one. It was large, not particularly noteworthy, and she didn't finish it either. The place was really noisy, which made conversation difficult. One other thing I noticed: all the female staff were wearing very short black skirts or shorts while the male staff members wore long black pants. I didn't inquire about a dress code or uniform, but it seemed sexist to me.
