Had the most chill time shopping for skates today with my daughter. I was having a hard time finding a shop in Md that sold skates and finally got a suggestion for this shop. The skates are affordable, quality skates. They come with a 90 day warranty in case of any defects, and a year of adjustments or care that the shop offers for your skates. The shop has been in this location for 31 years and is run by Kevin (he was professional, hilarious, and very knowledgeable about the skates). We came from Baltimore, so it was a little over an hr drive. The entire process from choosing, trying on, and getting the wheels/brakes adjusted, and paying was about 40 minutes. That included him helping other customers at the same time. A great multitasker for sure! His son was also there helping as well. This shop is located in a small shopping strip. The parking lot was a little tight but definitely doable and it wasn't packed. If you are looking for skates in any size from kids to adults definitely check them out asap! read more

5 star service!! I finally decided to get back into rollerskating after a 15+ year hiatus...and if you happen to be in the area, please stop by Bikes & Skates. Kevin was so knowledgeable and helpful in assisting me choose the right pair of skates. He also helps with customizing your skates (wheels, bearings, etc.) and you can always bring your skates back for any alignment and adjustment issues for free. If you purchased skates from somewhere else, you can still bring your skates in for repairs or adjustments, but for a small fee. He also sells wheels, pads, and other accessories for your skate needs. Overall, I highly recommend this place!! read more

Pulled up to this place on my way to a wedding, coming from out of town. I brought in a pair of skates I built looking for an adjustment or parts I could find to improve on the comfort of the skate. I got there a few minutes before they opened (10 am) and waiting about 10-15 mins before someone pulled up and opened the doors, strike 1. I was asked to move my car which was parked in front , ok strike 2. After, explaining what I was looking for, he was completely uninterested and suggested the most expensive skate plate. Unfortunately I purchased my skates offline rather than from this shop, but I've had two instances where the low quality skates needed repair and Kevin did a great job taking care of them timely and at a low cost. Please this guy is so rude and inconsistent and inconsiderate. Hours are from 1-7pm and I got there at 6:30'with my daughters driving from the Howard university area and he closed the doors on us saying that he wasn't taking anymore clients. He stated that he will be open the text day at 1pm and I was there at 12:30 to be the first. I was there to 11:30 with 2 other customers that were waiting. Anyhow I let and I got to my job at 2:10 and I called his shop and he answered the phone. I explained to him that I had been waiting and he told me that he doesn't want to do business with me. I drove to Capitol Heights, MD from DC to visit Bikes & Skates. It was worth the drive. I had a great experience. I brought my skates with me and wanted to understand why they didn't perform well outside. Turns out I needed new wheels and bearings for outdoor skating. After asking all of my questions (which Kevin professionally and patiently answered) and weighing the pros and cons of just getting new wheels or new skates, I went with new skates. My new skates got equipped with outdoor wheels and the trucks were adjusted. I like that they back their products, and I can come back if I have any issues with the skates. Please note: do not visit this establishment expecting to run in and out in 5 minutes to purchase roller skates or a bike if it's your first time! I really appreciate this shop being in Prince George's County! As depicted in the name, you can drop in and get what you need to start roller skating or cycling. They have a limited number of cycling kits, padded seats, and other accessories. If it's not in stock, ordering is a breeze & the item is delivered within a day or two. Prices are competitive and Kevin (the owner) is a sweetheart. He knows his products inside & out. He's been selling roller skates since the 1980s! I sent my friend here to finally buy some quality skates. Had to bring an end to all the clowning she receives for wearing rentals (also known as brownies) at the rink. I stopped her from a random Internet purchase... she now understands this is a small investment. Kevin hooked her up with some tried and true Riedells. There was no wait, he had her size in stock. Found this store a few weeks ago as the weather started to warm up. I was looking for skates for my son, daughter, and me. The owner was there with his son to help. Arrived at about 9:15 and stood in front of the shop to be first so we could use them that same day. Really loved this store. The skates are top notch. The owner and his son were top notch. Great customer service and incredibly friendly. They had my size in a glittery silver pair and I bought my son some that looked more like tennis shoes. I went to a park in Rockville another day and was skating around. A man stopped me and knew I had gotten my skates from here. He had done the same. This store is known all across Maryland and probably the entire DMV within the black community. Some white people were even stopping me to ask where I got them. I'll be going back in the next few days to buy some for my husband. May even buy a second pair to share with my mom when she's visiting. Can't say enough about how much I love this place. Even though customers were coming in and out, JB never missed a beat and was able to service them and kept us informed as the transactions moved along. First of all, I informed Kevin and Cathy that I need a wide width roller skates. They assured me that they have what I am looking for in a size 13 /14 wide width on 6-09-2022 or get it custom made. On 6-10-2022. I arrived at 10:45 am. Kevin showed up at 11:11 am at the little store. Kevin started to put out old bikes in front of store. (That should been a hint to me). Finally, Kevin opened the door and I went in. Kevin informed me that he will charge me $10.00 an hour for helping me find the right roller skates for my feet if I decided on not buying the skates. We tried about four different pair of skates. Non of the skates made my feet feel comfortable. It hurted around the bone of my foot. I told Kevin that I went to a roller skate rink and rented a pair of skates and it was no problem. Then Kevin says he would have to special order them and send it to my home. An old man in needed help with his tire. He over heard the conversation and agree that there is no promise that they will feet my feet. I went to leave and Kevin says $10.00 for helping you. I was in the market for a pair of skates, this place was only 30 minutes away from home, so my wife and I headed over. When we arrived we were greeted by an employee who was working at the counter. I'm a 6'3" male who wears anything between 11.5-13 depending on the shoe. When I inquired about trying on some skates in my size the employee stated "I only have few in your size". I said ok, let me try some on. He then informed me that there was a $10 charge to try on skates. The employee then informed me that it would go toward my purchase if I bought skates from them. I told him thanks, and we left. Maybe if they had a decent selection of skates available and good prices I wouldn't mind risking $10, but when you tell me you only have a grain my size, what's the point. WOMEN BEWARE! I was so excited to find a skate shop so close to home, but the reality of what I experienced here at this store was horrible and completely unacceptable . The manager Kevin insulted me. Made jokes about my body to my face....Essentially told me that I did not know what I needed to buy and that he knew better. When I tried to walk up to the door to ask if he was open now, he very rudely told me to "back up", because he needed time to open the store first. DON'T DO IT!!!!!... My Tire and Wheel was STOLEN from THIS PLACE.. KEVIN Refused to replace it with a comparable tire and Wheel. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I went to Bikes and Skates for a innertube and Liner but things went wrong quickly. First, Kevin asked me to leave my tire and wheel with him so that he could replace the tube. So, I left the tire and wheel with him. When I called back 2 hours later to find out if the job was complete. He told me that he could not find my tire. and that another customer must have taken it. Kevin said that he wanted to ensure that I did not ride my bike with a set of MIX MATCHED tires, so he promised to purchase 2 new tires and wheels. I waited 3 weeks for my bike tires, Kevin never communicated with me, to explain the delay. Nor did he called me when my bike was finally ready for pick up. I actually road by the shop and saw my bike sitting outside of his door. The BIGGEST Issue came when I noticed that kevin DID NOT purchase 2 tires, yet he replaced my $150 tire and Wheel which was taken from his shop with a $30 tire and rim. When I asked him about this issue, he said AND THIS WAS HIS WORDS VERBATIM "I CHANGED MY MIND. IT IS what IT IS." HORRIBLE Customer Service and lack of INTEGRITY.. DON'T DO IT....
