The second interaction was this same woman proceeded to charge at the main rink door yelling at kids and parents that they are not allowed to use the red "helper" walker things. She told my kids that she's too big. Then the older child in my group, she proceeded to tell her to give her the red thing. Her attitude was tone was aggressive and inappropriate. While I was there, I saw there is a food and arcade area. You can bring your own skates or use their skates. They also offer Public skating sessions, Bday parties & private events, Family-friendly theme nights, and Lessons, camps, and community events. I'll definitely be back for public skate in 2026.

I usually over-function for birthday parties but they took care of EVERYTHING! I was late with all the deadlines (per usual) from submitting the guest list to finalizing the menu and they took it all in stride and were so accommodating and professional. The location was great for kids- had a nice size (not too big/too small ) skating rink and they have an arcade. With our party package we had a section, for not just the kids but for the adults so we could sit in a contained area together, the kids could rent a pair of skates and got a card to go play in the arcade. They also had an ice cream sundae bar where the kids could get ice cream and add toppings. The DJ definitely gave the birthday star several shout outs and even played a dedicated song. The venue provided party favors (some really nice ones I might add). We also had a designated party manager and she was the bomb dot com- shout out to Heidi!! We had a party with over 20 kids so it did get a little pricey but I felt it was well worth it. I will definitely come back and bring the kiddos, may even try to skate again myself lol.

What a fun throwback experience to go roller skating at Coppermine Sportsman's Hall! The parking…read morelot is huge, so it's very easy to park, and it's free parking. The place is pretty easy to find though it is unlikely you'd just happen to drive by it, as it is kind of not on the beaten path. You can purchase everything ahead of time in terms of skate rentals and entry. It's pretty reasonable for one session mid-afternoon until close in the evening, you just need one entrance ticket/fee paid. You get your money's worth for sure if you are there for hours! You can bring your own skates or rent skates here- they have regular roller skates and roller blades. Both of these are in whole sizes, no half sizes, and both of them would be best on your feet with high socks that go to your lower calves, at least. Tying them tightly gives you the best skating, but that also pinches into skin if you don't have the right socks. They have an area for parties that includes a few arcade games, but mostly, you're there to skate. There are people there who are serious skaters going wicked fast and throwing some cool tricks, but we never felt bad in any way for not being one of the super talented skaters. There's a snack bar, too, with your classic fare like burgers, hot dogs, nachos, fries and funnel cake fries. Yummy snack junk food that makes the experience all the more reminiscent of young carefree days! They have lockers for your stuff, some don't even lock, but no one seemed concerned. There are benches for sitting and changing out your shoes to skates and vice versa, and people tend to just stash their shoes under the benches rather than get a locker. A good time all around and pretty affordable if you're there for a while!

Attended a birthday party with my seven year old son at Sportsman's Hall Roller Skating…read more Upon arrival, we were greeted at the front by an employee who was solely dealing with party check in. That's a great touch, as it got us through quickly without slowing down anyone who wasn't with a party. My son was given a voucher for skates and, after greeting the party guests, we headed over to get a pair. This was easy. He was in a pair of skates that fit in like two minutes. I planned on just sort of hanging with him but was informed outside shoes could not be on the skate floor. This was his first time so I sort of let him go and...it wasn't good. Thankfully there was a referee who helped him return to me. At this point I decided to get him a skate pal and rented my own pair of skates (both of which were super reasonable prices). The skating rink seemed to be in mostly good shape. There were a couple questionable spots. The rink has a DJ, snack bar and some games that people can play when not skating. The food was fine. The games were fine as well. Neither was spectacular. The host that was connected to our party was very attentive and accommodating. She explained everything that she was doing (almost too much). The one negative is the bathrooms. They are not very conducive to beginning skaters. Trying to keep my son from falling and conking his head on the toilet was a bit of a chore. Taking skates on and off is also a hassle and there isn't really anywhere to store them in or around the bathroom. I'm not sure what the solution is but, just know, bathroom going at the rink while wearing skates can be an adventure. Overall I thought Sportsman's Hall Roller Skating was a fine place to attend a kids birthday party.

I came to Yelp for deets and was led to the establishment's website by a previous reviewer. Because of the Pandemic, you have to order your tickets online. It was a very quick and convenient process & the skates were picked out & ready when we arrived. Be prepared with shoe sizes during the reservation. It appears that the ice skates are cut small, (or perhaps our socks were too thick), either way, I recommend asking for a size up because a few of our skates didn't fit & had to be exchanged. Thankfully, the staff members were very helpful. We went on a Thurs night and it was a decent sized crowd but not overwhelming. Parking is free. It's a nice, smaller rink, decorated with lights and plenty of seating for spectators. Everyone was wearing masks and hand sanitizer was available. They also have double bladed skates & penguin ice sliders available to assist the smaller children w/ their ice skating. (Some of the adults needed them too lol.) You are given a coupon for a $2 hot chocolate at the Thai restaurant near by with your purchase. This outdoor ice rink offers an affordable, safe and fun activity to do with the fam during the Pandemic. I enjoyed it and I think you will too. Check them out!

One of the very few rinks in the DMV that allows you to wear your headphones. Which is a major plus…read moreas most rinks do not allow headphones and other rinks also play their music at a deafening volume. This rink is really chill on adult nights. They play a mix of house and r&b music that i really enjoy, and at a volume that I can enjoy my own music if i want. The crowd is very friendly and supportive, they skate with the flow of traffic. no extremely fast skaters that cut through the rink here. so if you want to relax and work on middle work you can without any worry of someone running into you. I have my own skates so cost to get in is comparable to other rinks closer to DC. this rink also allows you to bring your own water bottle which other rinks do not allow. I only wish there were more adult nights. Hopefully one day they will expand their hours because I would love to visit more often.

Admission, rentals, lockers, concessions... Prices are too…read morehigh. Period. (They charge full price for spectators) -First let's talk about what's good. The floor is truly the star of the show (as it should be) They have a decent sized wood floor that they sweep after each session and spot clean as needed. As an active member in the local skate scene I appreciate the care they take with the floor. -Now for the intersection of good and bad. The staff is made up of mostly young men and women. They are friendly and polite. Unfortunately good intentions can not overcome poor management. Sometimes water is free other times they charge you the price of a soda for it. The floor is often out of control as children skate in both directions with no correction. This is made worse when they play games and turn down the lights. The young men and women that work there don't seem to be "reading the room" effectively. The first and most important step in providing a safe environment to roller-skate in is having control of the floor. Obviously not a priority at Skate Zone. -Finally let's call this section room for improvement. I'm not about to say anything new here. If you spend a few minutes looking at other reviews you will find all of this repeated over and over again. Sadly as time goes on these shortcomings continue to get worse. They have more staff then I have ever seen at a rink and at the same time it is the most out of control floor. Somewhere near the beginning of each session they make everyone stop skating to listen to the rules/disclaimer. This is so ridiculous I honestly can not understand what they think this is doing other then annoying people. If it actual meant anything at all they would have to do it repeatedly though the session as people come in. It's one of the biggest tells that the people that run this place don't skate and are not interested in skating. They have some of the highest prices in the DMV and when you compare what you get for your money it's not hard to see why you do not find a lot of good skaters showing up at Skate Zone. They also have the absolute worst rental skates. Actually the worst skates that I've ever used. So what I'm about to say is going to sound strange. If you are a skater you have to go try these skates. I promise I can not convey how bad they truly are you have to experience it. They are in the process of updating them but last I saw most adult sizes are still the old terrible ones.

I turned around and walked right out of there without investigating further. The vibes were off in that bathroom, I can tell you that much. They seemed alarmed that I was trying to come in there at all let alone with a four-year-old, even though the bathroom was a public bathroom.... I don't know how this place can call itself a roller skating rink with that horrible floor. The skates were plastic and awful. I really feel ripped off and extremely disappointed. The chairs were disgusting. I washed all of our clothes and coats as soon as we got home. I will never be returning. Such wasted money. In addition there was a DJ playing music and it was so loud. Went here for the first time to try the roller skating rink. And all I can say is that this place…read moreis just "average." I love the concept, and this seems like a great place for an extreme beginner (like me) to practice because it wasn't very crowded when I went at 5:30 pm on a weekday. But there were so many things that I also didn't like about the place. First, the rental skates are DIRTY and DUSTY and DOWNRIGHT disgusting. They do not seem to be properly cleaned or maintained, and I don't think they are even sanitized between users. They only come in derby style (with the completely flat sole, without a little heel), and I also found them to run very narrow. (And I have a regular width foot in the most common women's size. So I'm not hard to fit!) I spent almost 30 minutes of my 2-hour reservation simply trying to find a pair that didn't hurt my feet and with wheels that rolled properly. The shoes themselves are super filthy and dusty with disintegrating shoelaces, and when you go to put them on, the wheels are covered in so much dirt and hair and they get your pants dirty just touching them. Second, it is difficult to watch your things while you're skating. There are no lockers or secure areas to place your things. Rather just outside the rink there is a long built-in bench you can sit on to put on your skates, with rows of open cubby holes above it for you to store your things. But the entire area is facing out -- away from the rink and toward the rest of the building. That means it wouldn't be safe for you to leave a purse there unattended, nor would it be wise to leave your water bottle either. Although I felt fine storing my jacket and shoes there, I had to carry the rest of my stuff with me (and I placed my water bottle on the inside ledge so I could try to keep an eye on it). The whole thing seems poorly designed for adult users. Plus it was dirty -- with chewed balls of gum littering the area and even random press-on fingernails in the cubbies. Third, the handful of "cabana" seating areas that are around the rink seem so beat-up and dilapidated. All the pillows are dirty and deflated. The wicker is beat-up. Everything about the place just seem unkempt and uncared for. Whoever owns this place ought to be ashamed! There is no reason for it to be this bad. Fourth, the rink itself is ok. It's not a shiny floor like you might remember from childhood, but rather a slightly soft black snap-together floor. It was perfectly fine for skating though. There is no "rail" surrounding the rink though. If you find that you need to try to break a fall/come to a stop, there is almost nothing but smooth wall. (There was some kind of light fixture plate jutting out from the wall--screws and all--near the emergency exist when I was there. It was a definite safety hazard, and I don't think the establishment even cares. Fifth, there does seem to be a food stand and restrooms nearby. But I didn't use either of those, so I can't speak to the quality, cleanliness, etc. of any of it. Sixth, there is a decent parking lot out front. But it doesn't belong to Kraken. You have to pay a separate company to park out front (electronically, kind of like using ParkMobile). So that sucks. This place should at least validate your parking for a set amount of time. Seventh, the bulk of the building is devoted to pickleball. There are several courts all over, while the skating rink is in the very back. When I first arrived, there was hardly anyone playing. But as the night progressed, the pickle ball courts all got lots of us with multiple crowds. Because the backs of the cabanas are super close to pickle ball courts, it would seem prudent to me to put mesh along the back of the cabanas, so that there's no chance of an errant pickle ball flying into the cabana and hitting someone -- let alone flying onto the court and hitting an unsuspecting skater. It seems like this would be a no-brainer from the establishment's perspective, but it hasn't been done. So all of these things made for a mediocre experience. Now what were the good things, you ask? Well, I think if you can bring your own skates, then it's nice to have a place where you can safely practice in NW DC (and without having to go all the way to the Anacostia skate park). But other than that, there's not too much more I can say. If this place were in an inconvenient location, then these 3 stars would fall all the way down to 1 star.
