Last month, I checked out the skate school at Skate Zone. It's a vibe. I went to their Saturday morning class . The two instructors were great and very patient with our group. They break the groups up by age (little, teens, and adults). It was 30 minutes and leads up to the public skate. I love how they have different size guards for those of you who need skate assistance. While I was there, I saw there is a food and arcade area. You can bring your own skates or use their skates. They also offer Public skating sessions, Bday parties & private events, Family-friendly theme nights, and Lessons, camps, and community events. Okay, so I came here for a very cute adult, all-woman birthday party (such a cute idea!). First, the parking stinks! The lot is weirdly set up, and entering/exiting is A HASSLE, especially if you're coming at a time when the skate hours let in/out because then there are a ton of people trying to come and go in a very small, very tight lot, with an odd turnout onto the main road. The rink itself is a good size, but the whole place is a little sticky and dingy for my particular taste. I know most rinks are quite old and therefore they aren't necessarily super clean and modern, and this one was no exception to that. I'm giving this location 5 stars. I had never been here before but hosted a kids birthday party recently. Customer service was top tier. I usually over-function for birthday parties but they took care of EVERYTHING! I was late with all the deadlines (per usual) from submitting the guest list to finalizing the menu and they took it all in stride and were so accommodating and professional. The location was great for kids- had a nice size (not too big/too small ) skating rink and they have an arcade. With our party package we had a section, for not just the kids but for the adults so we could sit in a contained area together, the kids could rent a pair of skates and got a card to go play in the arcade. They also had an ice cream sundae bar where the kids could get ice cream and add toppings. The DJ definitely gave the birthday star several shout outs and even played a dedicated song. The venue provided party favors (some really nice ones I might add). We also had a designated party manager and she was the bomb dot com- shout out to Heidi!! We had a party with over 20 kids so it did get a little pricey but I felt it was well worth it. I will definitely come back and bring the kiddos, may even try to skate again myself lol. read more

The parking here was really tight. The rink was a nice size; there were a lot of people but it didn't feel overcrowded. They had things to hold onto if you are new to roller skating and need some balance. The music was ok and pretty diverse to cater to different crowds. It appeared well maintained and clean. There were staff walking around to ensure things were good. There were tables to host a birthday party. They had pizza and ice cream. For the ice cream they had a cart that had a bunch of toppings you could put on it. There were also regular tables for patrons that are not part of a party to sit. There was also arcade games. We hosted my granddaughter's birthday party at Skate Zone in Crofton and it was a very disappointing experience for the $450 we paid. Communication was poor from the start. We booked the party online and didn't hear from anyone until the day before the event. Our party was scheduled for 2:30-4 PM, but no one told us that a public open skate runs until 3 PM, which made parking difficult and created long lines for skate rentals. It took 30 minutes just to get five pairs of skates. The food service was also poorly handled. I specifically asked that the pizza be brought out at 3:15 so the kids could skate first, but it was served at 2:30 and was already cold by the time anyone ate it. Another pizza was eventually brought out, but we were charged for the extra pizza. There was no staff member assigned to assist with the party, organize the kids, or help manage the time we paid for. Every time we needed something we had to walk back to the front desk to ask for help. For $450, what we received was essentially two tables, cold pizza, watered-down soda, and paper plates. The lack of organization, communication, and basic customer service made this party feel like a complete rip-off because I was led to believe an employee would be assigned to lead the offered activities. NO ONE assisted with anything yet they made it known they should be tipped for service. What a joke it was, an expensive joke. I would NOT recommend hosting a child's birthday party here, and I will definitely be warning other parents about our experience. read more

Nice skating place but the rental skates look kinda old a grungy. My daughter decided not to skate after seeing the skates. Nice STEM field trip place though. Their pizza was surprisingly good, probably because they made them fresh for our school field trip. I guess the people who have bad Yelp reviews were unlucky and got old pizza that was sitting on display for a while. They need to clean and deodorize their bathrooms. I like this skate zone! I wish we had a nice place in Montgomery County so we don't have to drive all the way down to Crofton haha. The staff were friendly and I think we paid $75 for a family of 4 to skate on a Saturday with Skate rental. They had a lot of skate available so sizes are not an issue. You have to give them one of your shoes as collateral. There are lockers in the premises too but you have to pay to use them. There are support bars to can pay to use. It was $5 to rent them. The food there was good, reminded me of the movie theater concession. The options are comparable. I fell down a lot because it's been years since I've skated and it hits different when you are 30 haha. My kids loved it here! I will definitely come back! It's a vibe skating here. It's pretty crowded but it's moving. Arcade game- prices have increased Lockers- Don't forget your quarters if you want a locker $.75 each time you need to lock it. I attended a private skating party at Skate Zone Odenton on 11/21 and the party was going well until the end. I was chaperoning a group of elementary students and one of kiddos was trying to return their skates. I approached the counter to return the skates. I handed the skates to an employee, and the employee sprayed the skates and then passed the skates to another employee. After a few minutes, I noticed that I never received the kiddo's shoe so I asked (where is the shoe)? The employee proceeded to say that I didn't give him the right skates and therefore he couldn't give me the shoe. I mentioned that I gave him the skates and what he did with the skates. We went back and forth for a minute and then he said (you are not getting the shoe back until right give me the right skates).The kiddo was standing next to me the entire time and could hear the conversation. The kiddo started to get upset and said I want my shoe and I try to calm the kiddo down by ensuring that I was going to get the shoe. I asked for the manager and he said I am the manager and you are not getting the shoe. I spotted the shoe and asked another employee to give me the shoe but the employee didn't respond and the manager, who is the owner's son, reiterated that I was not going to get the kiddo's shoe. I then went and got the shoe and he push me and I pushed him back. I grabbed the kiddo's shoe and he tried to physical throw me out of the building by pushing me against the door and we went tussling with each other. The other employee who didn't respond to me intervened and yelled at, C Sh, she is girl/women and you are taking it too far, and break it up. Some in the crowd thought he was choking me but he was not. The owner, R Sh, showed up to asked what happened but when I tried to explain along with other adults, he claimed that I was yelling at him, but my voice was evaluated because of what just happened to me. It was not my intent to yell but I had just been physically assaulted by his son, C, which I didn't know that was his son at the time. The owner was not helpful in the matter so I stopped trying to explain myself because he had endorsed his son's unprofessional behavior, in my opinion, but R did allow me to return into the skating rink to grab my belongings. As all of the students, chaperones and teachers were witnessed to the incident, I thought that I needed to apologize to everyone for participating in the incident with the manager, C Sh. I even apologized to the owner, R Sh, not because I agree with his perspective but because I thought the students and everyone didn't deserve to see this and I wanted to be sincere in my apology to the kiddos. Neither R Sh nor his son, C Sh apologized to me for refusing to give me the kiddos' shoe or for C physically assaulted against me as R Sh said C had a right to do it because I went and got the kiddos' shoe. I will never step foot in this business again or the one in Crofton, which I actually like based on what happened to me at this business. I had to modify my original post by using their initials since the Google won't allow me to make the owner publicly with their legal names. Also, after researching this business, it appears that this is not the first encounter with unprofessional behavior and mistreatment of customers. read more

I'm astounded that I've never been here before in all the years I've grown up in the area. The only time I went roller skating as a kid was somewhere else. But, it's nice to see that Crofton still has a market for this type of activity. We went on a school PTO-sponsored night, so it was a closed event with just the school kids. There were a lot of them, though, but it wasn't open skate, which was nice. (Especially after reading some of the other reviews!) My biggest impression: dilapidated. The place overall isn't bad, but it's clearly old and showing its age. The lighting is fairly new, including the mirror balls and other lighting effects. But, the ceiling looks heinous and moldy, with most of the tiles dirty, stained, damaged, and/or out of place. The drop-ceiling holding them up is also in bad shape. I would be stunned if there wasn't a mold problem in there. The staff is decent. Crystal, the DJ, was by far the friendliest and most helpful one of the group. They're all high school students, of course, which is fine. This is probably a great entry level job for the local kids. It's probably pretty low-key and not too stressful. The person at the snack counter should put their cell phone away for a while, though... ;) The rental skates are decent enough, though they are also showing quite a bit of wear and tear. I'm glad I wasn't out there skating, honestly! The wife and kid didn't seem to have any issues, though, which is great. And honestly, most of the kids seemed to be having a wonderful time. The arcade leaves a lot to be desired, but it's designed to generate revenue. The ticket games are expensive, and you don't get a lot of tickets for your games. That's pretty on par for a place like that, though. I'm sure it helps the place stay in business. Speaking of which, the snack counter is WAY overpriced. They also don't sell bottled water there. Instead, they have separate vending machines for bottled beverages. Two bucks a pop. Oh well, at least they had Gatorade in many flavors, and also for the same price. I mean... it's not a BAD place to go... but, it really needs some TLC. If I skated, I'd be here a lot still, even with all the flaws. Not sure I'd grow accustomed to eating or drinking here, though, or playing the games. But, for a skating rink that still had a retro feel, it's pretty spiffy. Skate Zone is an OK family friendly skating arena. I was there a few months ago and was surprised they didn't have lockers and they would only take ONE of your shoes when renting out skates. This means you were on your own finding someplace to stow your other shoe! Horrible customer service. The skating area is very large but as the business is very popular on a typical Saturday or Sunday afternoon the place is packed. Finding seating when you want to rest and grab a snack is not that easy as seating is rather limited. The food is standard fare - pizza, pretzels, chicken fingers, fries, sodas and slashes. It's just ok, not bad but not that good either. There is an arcade area with rather old and dated games. The party area on the side back wall is a bit small but rotates people out to accommodate the many parties (mainly kids birthdays). While its not typically dirty, its also not spotless. The staff doesn't seem to prioritize keeping the seating/dining areas clean. Expect to to need to wipe down your own table about half the time. Also occasionally trash left on floor. They do clean up periodically, its just not frequent. Overall, its just ok, but very popular especially with kids. read more

I hadn't been skating in over 10 years, so this was a trip down memory lane. I went during the week. Surprisingly, the rink wasn't packed. They practiced social distancing, you had to pre-purchase your tickets online, and there was a mask requirement. I felt that I was in a safe space. The music was okay but wasn't appropriate for the audience. Great DJ's pay attention to the crowd and adjust the music accordingly. The staff was friendly and helpful. After all, I was nervous about skating. The rink was clean and hadn't changed much since I was a child. Truth be told, the facility could use a remodel, it's very dated. It would be helpful to have a separate area for small kids that are learning how to skate. The fact that I hadn't skated in over 10 years, I am over 45, and small kids getting in the way that couldn't skate, wasn't a good mix. I was nervous that I would crash into one of them. The skating floor isn't the best and the sound system is dated. I liked the screens on the walls next to the rink - playing music videos. As a newer skater, I prefer to go when it's less crowded. I am SO dissapointed at this establishment. When initially trying to book a private party we were told that it wasn't an option until May. So we moved forward with a regular booking with the most expensive package. We also discussed setting up the balloon display (we specifically communicated that it would be an arch) before purchasing the supplies. The employees also assisted us with finding a place to prep the balloons before our reservation. If you look through other pictures on Google review you will see other balloon garlands put up which we also presented as an option. At no point were we told that this would be an issue and since we were given incorrect information it would seem reasonable to find a considerate compromise's. When going to set up the balloons the manager, McKenzie would not find a reasonable compromise although we were continuously explained that there was a very clear lack of communication. There was a lack of consideration or empathy that was honestly very hurtful after the time and effort spent. This was a childhood favorite for me that I no longer cherish after this experience read more

We went after the snow & they hadn't properly made the entrance way ice free. Other than the server being a turn off the overall skating ring was a great success. Came here for my cousin's birthday party and the place was packed. I was lucky that I brought my skates because the line was so long for the rental. because I don't want this review to be too long I'm just gonna put down bullets points for everything The only good things about this place -The place is big -They keep it clean (the actual rink at least) -the songs and games are fun But now that bad things -There were way too many people on the rink at the same time from beginners to pro's it was hard to skate alone with all the kids with the triangles falling on the floor -The staff just don't care! WAY too many people fell and hurt themselves. When I first got there an ambulance pulled in because a woman fell and hurt herself badly! A little girl fell on her face and looked like she was in pain and the staff members just looked at her THEN SKATED AWAY! It feels like they were mainly there to skate themselves! -The food came way earlier than expected. Before everyone came the food had been out for who knows how long so it was cold by the time everyone was hungry -the stairs just to get into the rink it's really dangerous the only place without stairs was the one by the rental but it was so crowded you could only enter the rink threw there -While I was skating I saw someone's WHEEL fly off and it wasn't someone's personal wheel it was the RINKS skate's that's when I knew it was time to go This place is nice and fun but it just ran poorly won't be coming where again. one star read more

We decided to go skating before the winter break was over and chose this location due to then having a schools out skate session from 1-4pm. We arrived around 2pm and it was pretty crowded. The check in process was quick and we didn't have to wait too long for our rental skates. They have plenty of lockers to rent for .75, but beware you'll need .75 cents every time you need to open the locker! It was my sons first time skating in a while so he needed one of those skater roller aids children can use. We used to come here years ago and they were free, but now the rink sells them for $5 which was surprising! They played great music and nice little games skaters could do overall. If you need to take a break from skating they do have a cafe and arcade. We didn't buy food but my son did play a few games at the arcade. To play the games you can just purchase a card for how much you want. The games are a little pricey so keep that in mind when loading money on card. We got 4 free tickets to watch the Washington Wizards vs. Oklahoma and at the same time we were invited to a party at Skate Zone. We chose Skate Zone and gave the tickets away. I'd a bad experience at a roller rink in my adult years due to bad rental skates. The rental skates here are awesome, the beats are slammin' and the food is good enough. They have these training implements you can use to support and get newbies (like me) skating in no time. We skated for hours and burned a ton of calories. For our group the played a bunch of games making skating more fun and more challenging. I urge everyone to come and Rock Skate, Roll Bounce..! read more

I am basing this review in comparison to the rolling skating rink in Laurel... Day/time of visit: Sunday, 2:30pm Purpose: 4 yr old bday party Ambiance: Typical roller skating atmosphere. Fun, fairly clean, diverse group of patrons, lots of families and younger kids, but yet, saw a couple of young adults for group outings. (It is also Christmas break time). They have a live DJ that played a good mixture of music. From current pop to 1990's to current hip-hop and r&b. I was totally jamming. It appears they have purchased new skates for the majority of sizes that includes the 4 wheel typical roller skates and in-line skating. They still smell like disinfecting spray, but I would rather smell that then someone's funky ass feet. What do you expect though? (I'm beginning to cringe now that I think of how many strangers have worn those skates before me... *shiver*). The place has a small arcade areas, a food stand, seating areas, self service lockers, and a party area. Pretty we'll spread out. My experience here is limited to my 4 and 3 year old. We had skate mates that they held on to as they are learning how to skate. These make such a difference when teaching them. The slower skaters tend to be towards the center of the rink where there are a few large circle benches that sit in the center, which I think is a great concept. I enjoyed my time there. I have been coming to this skating rink since middle school. It is located along 301 / Route 3 right past (or before, depending on which direction you're going) the Go Kart raceway. If you are heading north, you have to make a U-turn in order to get to it. The parking lot for it is extremely gravelly now... If you have your own skates and are using them between your car and the building, good luck. On peak nights, the lot also gets super crowded. People have to park along the street and in the extended parking lot past the building. One of those peak nights, specifically, is Thursday when admission is $1. During the summer, kids are EVERYWHERE!!!! I remember when I used to skillfully jump over kids that fall and still keep my balance, fun times... but it's a lot to deal with. Make sure you check the schedule on the site (at least until you memorize it) because admission (and the theme) is different every day. As for the interior, you pay as soon as you enter, and then they buzz the door so you can enter where the floor is. Food, drinks, bathrooms and seating are to the left, and rentals, lockers, games and more seating are to the right. Part of the seating on the left is a party space... I think I had a friend that had a party there once, it was fun. The lockers are 75 cents now (I am pretty sure they used to be cheaper). This skating rink does not have a wooden floor like most others do, but that doesn't bother me. What does bother me is the fact that the floor is so beaten up now. Not only that, but the bathroom has cobwebs and it is super dusty. It could definitely go through some serious maintenance. That aside, it is still fun, and at least if you play the games enough you have access to some cool prizes! The music is usually popular stuff, both old and new. There are two monitors you can see while on the floor: one has the music video for the song, and the other has cartoons or some TV show playing. Now for the actual skating experience... while most of the music is popular and it's fun to dance to... I wouldn't say that it's necessarily appropriate for skating. I don't mean to sound old-fashioned, but the old disco stuff really made skating fun, and that was the best music for it. Trap music and skating don't really mix. Every now and then, the DJ stops the music to remind people of the rules. Other occurrences include races, backwards skate (I still haven't learned how to do that), slow skates, couples skates, 18 and older skates, and 17 and under skates. I personally do not think the 18+ skate happens enough... a lot of time can be spent dodging the kids, can we have more time to skate ourselves? Seriously, watch out for those kids, haha. While Skate Zone isn't the perfect skating experience, it is still easy to have a good time, and their prices are awesome... except for the food and drinks. My most recent experience here made me hate Skate Zone, but let me start with what they are doing well. Pros - * Affordability - The $1 Thursday nights and $2 Wednesday nights are great! * Music selection is pretty good. Sometimes I wish the music they played would be catchier and more upbeat. * Customer service is on point! The employees are very nice! Cons - * DO NOT COME TO THIS RINK ON A THURSDAY NIGHT DURING THE SUMMER!!! It was unbearable to skate with the hundreds of kids tripping and falling over each other. Also, the poor skaters have this weird cart that they can wheel around with them. Dangerous with a capital D for them to be on the same floor with normal skaters. * Food is way too expensive. I understand that they have to make a profit, but seriously. Just be aware that there are waaaay cheaper prices for their food selection elsewhere. * Floor is BEAT up. I don't think they've changed it since the 1970's. Ugh. Overall, I still like this skating rink. I just had a few bad experiences. I bring my boys here maybe once a month to do some skating. They really enjoy it. Roller skating for hours, go around and around the rink never tires them out. This place is always jam packed on the weekend, especially on Saturday's. Birthday parties and regular patrons can enjoy the rink at the same time. The food here is just ok, nothing spectacular. Pizza or chicken tenders with fries, the basic items. All in all its a good place to take your kids to burn some energy on the weekend. read more
