It was excellent, there were so many fun activities, the staff is great, it's never too crowded, and the snack bar idea?! Who ever came up with the idea, you're a genius! Just put like Takis and spicy chips(Takis, hot fries, spicy Doritos) to balance the cold! Just remember to bring a jacket because it gets very cold, and bring some changes of clothes because if you fall you'll get wet and cold. It is definitely recommended. My daughter stated taking ice skating lessons there this year and loves it! She started with basics 2 and just finished the basics 4 course. The lessons really help her progress fast. All the teachers we had were super nice and if you can't make it to a lesson it's no problem to join one on another day to make it up. We came here a few times during the summer just to skate which helped her practice what she learned in the lessons. I can only recommend this place and we are so glad we found it! read more

I never knew an ice skating rink could be so baller, but here it is! My memories of ice skating rinks include busted old benches, swinging on penalty box doors, and the occasional salted pretzel. The Gardens features multiple rinks, an equipment store, locker rooms, a warm refreshment room deemed "Ice Breaker Cafe" (clever!) with a flat-screen TV and a full menu of junk food from breakfast to late-night, and a sizable collection of arcade games. Judging from a wall of plaques and photos, it looks like they house local ice hockey groups, from high school teams to a contingent I hope to join in some 50 years: the Geri-Hat Tricks! Their photos are amazing. Tonight's public skate (7:30-9:30pm on Fri/Sat; check website for changes or other days) featured a wide age range: lots of middle and high school groups giggling around, a number of younger kids - some sporting full hockey gear - tearing around the rink and putting the rest of us to shame, teens on dates, adults on dates (these were generally the worst skaters), and mommies and daddies helping adorable little ones totter around in circles. It was great people-watching, and festive without being overly crowded. Music ranged from Adele to Rihanna, and yes, there was space for a mini dance-off as we circled the rink. (We both lost. Our dignity.) After public skate ended, we were even able to split a coke in the Ice Breaker Cafe while watching the beginning of an amateur ice hockey match! A fitting and enjoyable conclusion, despite the lack of rum. If you're looking for a new date spot or fun place to take/drop off the kiddos and you're willing to make the hike (it's right off 95 and the ICC, if that helps), this place is all you. Really nice well maintained center. Three rinks, two indoor and one outdoor. The outdoor rink is pretty tiny though - nice to be outside but the circles are very small. You don't get to pick what rink you go on, and the best seem to be reserved for lessons or hockey. The public skate was fun, and cheap - skate rental and three hours for around $10.50. They zamboned the ice after an hour too. Their rental skates are really comfortable and unlike other rinks, really new as well which is nice. They have a big cafe as well ( didn't try it) and the whole place has a local vibe even while its a big ass center which is nice. Downsides: no lockable lockers - my stuff was safe (kept it by rink) but would have felt more secure if I could lock away my laptop. read more

This place is pretty prominent. You drive up and it's part of an enormous sports complex. You walk in and there is hustle and bustle. These people boast three ice rinks and a curling center. THREE RINKS! Hockey is what brings me up there but they also are heavily into figure skating and they do offer classes. Many! They have hundreds of hockey teams to also choose from. The pro shop is pretty impressive as well, great selection of figure and hockey stuffs. The pro shop was super helpful while we were getting my replacement hockey sticks. Not sure about the consessionaires but they looked like a typical ice rink food stand, nothing to boast about. Great place to take the kids though. My guy plays on two teams for the adult hockey league so we're there somewhat often. If you are lucky, the cute little concession stand will be open. I usually just get a side of fries to snack on and they even have warm nacho cheese to dip into! The whole facility is kept up with very well and they have a good staff running things and keeping everything clean. They host a lot of events there too, last night we went a few minutes early and discovered they were having the Navy game there! Awesome! The excitement was so fun and I wish more people loved hockey! Update: just had a thought about adult hockey scheduling. The game last night started at 10:35pm and after a log work day/week, who can play well going into almost midnight? I definitely think they should figure out a new scheduling system. Last year, majority of the games were after 10pm and I just feel bad for all those guys. Most of them have probably been sleeping for hours before the game starts on any normal night. read more

First please let me clarify that this review specifically addresses figure skating (known as free-style work sessions). I do not have experience with hockey or public skating sessions here; for all I know, they could be lovely. I am giving 2 stars for Gardens' treatment of at least 50% of their business - figure skating families. Coming to Gardens is like being chased every minute - literally. The staff excel at bugging little kids about whether they have paid. You hear the background of their chanting all the time ("Don't get on to ice until it is EXACTLY 12:30!!" - when it was 12:29. Wow.). Very, very off-putting and unappreciative to your clients who spend hundreds of dollars every month for your mere ice-time. To me what is most hypocritical is the fact that they do not even bother issuing a paper punch card if you purchase a multi-session (you can buy, e.g., a 40-sessions "card" for a discount, except that there is no card). Reisterstown Sportsplex has a paper punch card and it makes perfect sense. Gardens does not, and it has happened to us numerous times when they have hence conveniently charged us more sessions than we have used. There is no paper punch card, hence no evidence, and an enormous amount of stress arguing. Yet, get this, they hand out tiny little raffle tickets to the kids to mark the sessions they have paid, "so as to keep track of who has paid". So ok, the skaters need to show evidence of what they have paid for the day, and the rink does not need to provide a mechanism of evidence to show how many sessions are still left for the MONTH. Go figure. If you are new to either the area or new to figure skating, choose a different rink. Reisterstown and Columbia are both lovely - mostly because the people are lovely. I should also clarify though that East Coast Hockey (the shop located inside Gardens lobby) is lovely. I think of them as a separate business and hence not part of this review. If your figure skater is making progress, expensive gears will be inevitable and it is not the store's fault. To me, if you are buying ~$1000 pair of skates, then the important thing is that the store has the expertise to provide all the proper maintenance and East Coast Hockey excels at that. read more

This place is great!!! Although ice skating isn't really my "thing," I thought I'd give it a shot! We found this rink and many others, but opted for this rink mainly because it was indoors and closest to where I live. Pros: Indoors, which is a huge bonus for me (being as though it was about 20 degrees outside when we went). Parking was plentiful. We actually found a spot right in front. Price was reasonable. It was $7.70 for adults, $6.60 for kids and $4.15 for skate rentals. Not bad if you ask me! They have restricted hours for public sessions which are listed on the website. Staff very nice and friendly. Vending machines on the main level and in the basement. Bathrooms cleaner than most places. As far as the space is concerned, the rink is ginormous!!! You have more than enough room to skate around without knocking anyone over and when I say you I mean me, lol!!! They also have cute little walkers for the little kiddos that can't skate. I forgot to mention they had free skating on New Year's Day from 8am to 10am as well as complimentary hot coco. Of course I didn't make it but it would've been nice. Cons: NONE!!! This place is absolutely amazing! All in all, I really enjoyed my experience. read more

I really enjoy my time at this facility. We had an issue a few months back that involved Monday freestyle sessions being cut from the schedule, but Tom worked with my coach and I to find a solution. I'm still very appreciative of that. The early a.m. skaters are mostly the same faces again and again, all nice people. My mornings there account for some of the best parts of my week. Great place to spend a day out. They have an enormous complex with several ice rinks (one devoted solely for hockey), changing rooms, cafe, arcade, and skate rental. Prices for entry and skate rental are not too expensive (somewhere in the range of $12-15 for entry). On Friday nights, they have a DJ playing top hits and the staff will often lead skaters in competitions (hokey pokey, ice limbo, etc.). Beyond public skating, the Gardens offers figure skating, speed skating, and hockey lessons. There is an impressive pro shop to fill all of your skating and hockey-related needs and the cafe boasts a wide array of food. The only downside is that on popular nights (Fridays/Saturdays), you can be in for quite a wait. read more

Though it's a bit far out for me, this is a nice place to go skating. I opted to go here after buying a $12 groupon good for 2 entrance fees and 2 skate rentals. Which was more like the price of 1 regular admission so I got a 2 for 1 deal. That worked out pretty nicely for a mix it up a bit kind of date. It is a quality place to ice skate. The rental skates are halfway decent and there's food readily available (I didn't eat here though). They are playing all of the latest top 40 hits while you skate. It is pretty family oriented with lots of kids and families even at night. I think thats because the hours for public skating are pretty limited. It's from 8:10 to 10:10 and they take a break to smooth the ice so get here on time to make it worth it. The only thing I really didn't like was that theres no real place to put your belongings and lock them up. I had a lot of stuff on me when I went, Coach shoes, my android phone, my wallet, and my itouch. All of which could've been stolen and I wouldve appreciated somewhere to put it besides back in the car. read more

I love the gardens! I took ice skating lessons here for a few years when I was 11... Since then I have been coming here for a great free skate and NUMEROUS High school and other league teams for hockey! Having three rinks is great, so much better then Piney Orchard! I love the pro-shop I used to beg my mom to get me all the cute skating outfits! Very friendly people working, great for kids and families! They have a warm room where the food is and arcade games too! read more

Went for the LivingSocial Canadian for Eh Day event. First off, the event was AWESOME! Poutine? Beer? Curling? Dancing on the ice??? Sure, I almost threw out my shoulder during broomball, but I had a blast. The facility was pretty sick too (3 rinks!!!) and I got to watch some decent amateur hockey while drinking a molson. This place is awesome! Two huge ice rinks and plenty of open skating hours. It was $31 for two adults and one child including skate rentals. Not bad for a great afternoon activity. They Zamboni the ice at least once during the session. We were there on New Years day and it wasn't too crowded at all. We'll definitely be back! We first learned about Gardens when my son came here for ice hockey lessons. We've been back for open skate, birthday parties, and camp programs since. It's a great facility - as others have noted, multiple rinks and clean, spacious changing rooms. The Cafe is great. Marlon worked with us when we hosted a birthday party on site, and his food is so much better than what you would ever imagine a snack bar at an ice skating rink could offer. There are plenty of comfortable spots with a strong Wifi signal, so parents can easily get work done if you're bringing kids for lessons/practices. I can't recommend it enough. read more

Don't leave skates at the pro shop to be sharpened. Stand over them and wait otherwise they won't get done! I brought four pair of ice skates in to be sharpened. I waited for two and left two there since I had to get my daughter to a lesson. I was told they would be done that night. Two days later I went back to pick up. They were not done. Guy in pro shop said he was sorry and would do them right away. I asked how long? He said 10-15 minutes. I went to my car to tell my husband and four kids and waited the time, then went back in. THEY WERE NOT DONE OR EVEN BEGUN. He said ours got pushed to the back of the line because other people had been waiting too! I SHOULD HAVE ASKED if they've been waiting FOR TWO DAYS!!!???? read more

Staff is really nice....they are always very friendly and helpful. If you purchase skates elsewhere, please note they charge $40. for baking. This does not include sharpening. There are many other places that will bake and sharpen for less. read more

I bought vouchers from Living Social for The Gardens Ice House to take my family and friends skating. The main reason I chose to buy this voucher was because of the supposed availability of 7 days a week. It's clearly written on the 5th line under "Details" on the Living Social voucher. I called Gardens today to ask what their hours are for Sunday, only to be told by the young lady who picked up that they don't have public sessions on Sundays. She said they only have sessions Weekdays at 11:00 am or so and Saturdays from 1pm. That's 6 days a week!! and let's not even count the weekday hours - most people are at work and kids in school at that hour so who's supposed to be there?? I read out the details of the voucher to the lady and she said she would call her manager and call back. She called back 5 minutes later to say her manager will have their marketing person reach out to Living Social to make the changes on the voucher for people buying henceforth. I asked her what about those of us who already purchased the voucher BECAUSE we thought we could use it 7 days a week at "normal" hours? She says "unfortunately there's nothing else she can do at the point and I should call her manager tomorrow to discuss. Blimey!! If you love yourself please don't bother with this place and their false advertisements. I definitely will NOT be coming here EVER; not to an establishment with neither morals nor principles, all for an extra dollar. read more

Brought my 4 year old to a public session this spring for his first time on the ice. The facility was amazing as well as the staff. They helped us get the right size skates and made sure they fit right before we got on the ice. We are planning on coming back very soon.
