Went here for lunch on a Friday. There was decent amount of people for the time. I thought the lady was very nice. She got our drinks and explained the all you can eat. They bring you plate and after you eat it they'll bring you more so you don't get too much and waste the food. So it's like 2nds not like a buffet. I got the all you can eat beef enchilada plate. It came with rice and beans and shell tacos. I was full off one plate so I didn't even need 2nds. You know a place is a gem when its been flourishing in the worst part of town since the 1980's. My dad and i discovered this place when we first moved to Texas and it was instantly a family favorite. The owner- Frank greets us by name and they still have one of the two original waitresses from my first visit. Weekend menudo and barbacoa are unparalleled in Arlington- I just wish they still made homemade tortillas like they did back in the day. A few tips for you- 1.The sweet tea and lemonade is amazing- both are homemade and those are the only drinks you get free refills on- the sodas are in bottles or cans. (woohoo for Coca Mexicana!) 2. Ask for Salsa Ranchera if you want something spicier than the table salsa. 3. The lunch special is perfect for those days where you are famished- 2 cheese enchiladas, 2 crunchy beef tacos, 1 tostada, rice and beans. you don't have to finish your plate to get refills as long as you ate what you order (example you ate the tacos but not the enchiladas and you want more tacos they are happy to oblige- even better if you tell them up front you can sub any of the items for ones you don't want. read more

AMAZING hole in the wall authentic Mexican food! I came here with about 12 people from work and I was nervous, hoping it would not be your typical Tex-mex place considering I was in the mood for some real Mexican food. I must say, it's pretty legit! I felt like I was eating my moms cooking. A heads up, this place IS very small. We couldn't all sit together. 4 out of the 12 had to sit separate because there was simply not enough room. We did have to ask for menus since no one had been there before. So I'm assuming they must have a lot of regulars. The waitress was super friendly, everyone in the restaurant said hello to us. Towards the end we also had one of the ladies come ask us how I experience was and handed out their business cards to every single one of us. The salsa was okay. I wasn't a big fan but that's just because I like my salsa to be a bit more on the spicy side. The salsa tasted like they put too many tomatoes in it. I was going to order just one enchilada with two sides; rice & beans. (The sides are to be ordered separate.) The waitress informed me of their lunch special which had three enchiladas, three hard shell beef tacos, rice & beans for 7.10!!! She suggested I order that because it would be more food and it's a great special. So I did. It was delicious!!! The cheese enchiladas were cooked to perfection! The beans and rice were flavorful and didn't taste like they were leftovers from the previous day. All the food came out in a timely manner, it was hot and fresh. Even when I asked for jalapeños she went to grab them immediately. Prices are very very reasonable. Portions are pretty big as well. I was also surprised at how much food everyone had on their plates. Fun fact: When I went up to pay, the lady informed me that they have been around for about 30 years! We have many fine TexMex restaurants in Arlington, some good Mexican restaurants featuring different regional cuisines, and this one is unfortunately, not one of them. Bigotes is a little cafe that at one existed all over Texas selling breakfast and lunch, and often focused on Tex Mex cuisine. It positions itself as a Tex Mex restaurant which brings certain expectations no different than one that serves Oaxacan or Yucatán cuisine. I was in the area and dropped in, questioning its cleanliness a bit from the looks outside. It's a tiny dining area, you seat yourself, and the place was nearly full which I hoped would be a portent of great food to come. Nope. I ordered the all you can eat lunch which starts with chips, salsa, two cheese enchiladas, two crispy beef tacos, a bean chalupa, refried beans, and rice. Chips were a bit stale and thick, hard and with the sourness of tired oil. Salsa was ok. The sweet tea came in a big glass but had a serious offtaste, either from instant tea or bad ice. It was terrible and there is no excuse for that in these parts. The plate arrived. The cheese enchiladas were awful. Soft tortillas were the only positive. They had a some flavorless overly stringy cheese, no onion, and worst were covered in a watery flavorless sauce devoid of spice, body, or character. This should have been a traditional chili gravy or chili cob carne, with a strong note of ancho chile and cumin, and enough fat to round out the flavors. It appeared to be some canned red enchilada sauce, some ground beef from the taco bin, and a heavy dose of water; this is inexcusable in my book. The two tacos were in smallish shells with unseasoned ground beef, a few strings of cheese, a little lettuce and chopped tomato. If the meat had bee seasoned they would have been passable. The chalupa is redundant, as it's beans on a tortilla with a few of the same cheese shreds and some lettuce and tomato. They laid it on top of the refried beans so the flat crispy tortilla was quickly rendered a soggy mess that was indecipherable from the portion of beans. The refried beans were the best item though bland and needing the traditional smokiness of lard. Rice was ok. Service was friendly and quick. I won't be back unfortunately. read more

The cheese enchiladas did not have cheese but instead were a rolled up cold corn tortilla with the top gravy tasting more like cheap canned meat spaghetti sauce. If you aren't looking for it you'll pass it up.... big mistake if you do, this place is awesome! I'm not sure why we go to {insert chain name here} when Bigotes is so close. The restaurant is small and nondescript. My friend asked if it was safe to get out of the car (I laughed at him for this, btw). The staff is courteous, but not overly so and you have basically one choice for a meal: AYCE lunch. Now, I couldn't even eat half of what was presented to me, let alone more.... For $10 including a lemonade and tip this is a great lunch deal. The tacos, which I don't normally like, we're pretty good and covered in gobs or shredded cheese. The enchilada sauce was a mix or chili con carne and red sauce. I didn't care for the beans or tostada... Nothing wrong per se just my preference. read more

For a big eater like me, those are some of my favorite words. The food tasted great, but it wasn't super special. I did, however, thoroughly enjoyed the cheesiness on everything! A second giant plate was more than enough to keep me satisfied until a light dinner later. The $8.40 price was good compared to most places (6.85 + 0.55 tax + 1.00 tip), but you could go down the street to El Ahorro supermarket and get a huge 2 meat combo for $5 +tax. Bigotes is a treat for a super hungry tex-mex seeker. Don't forget about El Ahorro for a cheaper, smaller, different alternative! read more

I've been here twice now and it's been very good both times! What Bigotes lacks in ambience, decor and convenience, they more than make up for in great, authentic Mexican food and friendly, efficient service. Seven bucks gets all-you-can-eat cheese enchiladas, beef tacos and chalupas. The chips are thick and overcooked for my taste. The salsa is good, not great. But everything else is fantastic. I'm as much a fan of the popular Mexican chains like Abuelo's and Uncle Julio's as the next guy, but I've also held to the notion that if you want authentic Mexican food then eat where authentic Mexicans eat.
