My husband wanted to go whitewater rafting on…read morethe Ocoee for his birthday this year, and after a quick search through Yelp and beyond, OAR is one of the best rated rafting companies in the area. We booked the Middle River trip, which totals about 3 hours and includes 1.5 hours on the river itself. I booked our trip a couple of weeks in advance online, and I'm glad I did, because they sold out for the day! It was $65 per person, which feels like a fair price for the experience. They recommend arriving 30 minutes early, which will give you plenty of time to get checked in and get your party situated. Definitely bring sunscreen and a plastic water bottle, along with the proper water shoes and attire. You're instructed to leave everything in your car, and then drop your keys off with the front desk staff for pick-up after your rafting trip. The safety briefing started right on time, and basically consists of what to do if you end up going overboard. It's not meant to be scary, and most of it is self-intuitive. There were about 60 people in our group, and the majority of rafts held 6 people. After the safety talk was over, everyone gets their own lifejacket, oar, and helmet. Then you and the rest of your crew hops on a school bus, which will take you to the drop-off site about 20 minutes away. This is where we met our rafting guide, Cleveland, and after a quick demo on paddling and how to sit in the raft, we were off on our adventure! Our time on the water was so much fun, and I want to shout out how incredible Cleveland was from the beginning to the end. He was an awesome mix of friendly, engaging, and informative, which made our trip all the more memorable! As a group of two, we were paired with two other random couples to fill out our raft, which was a great way to meet some new people. Overall this was an amazing experience, and we can't wait to do it again soon. We'll definitely be booking the full river trip next time!

A small business but definitely filled with the best and most intentional staff. They were so great accommodating for just over 40 girls. We all were split up into multiple rafts (about 4-6 per raft) but they still kept us as a group throughout the 5 miles we were on the river- making sure we could all laugh at each other. In partial, my group got lucky with HOLLY! What a GEM! She had the most contagious energy and you can tell she truly loves what she does. I didn't realize until mentioning her afterwards at our camp, that apparently she's pretty well known for all of her outdoor adventures. While guiding us, we also asked some questions about her life and some of her highlight experiences, which included some memories from rafting through Italy and the Grand Canyon. It's amazing the adventures she's been on and you can tell that she lives for what she does. She made our "dream team" laugh probably 100 times and kept the whole experience exciting even when we took a lil break. Our guide, Spencer, was incredibly skilled as he could have navigated blindfolded... yes, he's that good! Spencer was also an absolute blast to surf the river with... very friendly, knowledgable and well-traveled... he had plenty of amusing stories to share and kept us all very engaged. I should also mention that Spencer was also seriously great at gaging our comfort level vs. our spirit of adventure... therefore, he was able to navigate us down various paths of the river making it challenging and thrilling for us! While there are plenty of white water outfitters to pick from, we intentionally picked a smaller outfitter and we were so glad we did... we felt our experience was more personal, less generic, and seriously less crowded! I only wished I had sat in the front of the boat where the photographer was situated... that would have made a fantastic birthday photo. The only other "disappointment" was that Cascade Outdoors advertised about their HOT SHOWERS which was super important to us and was one of the main reasons we chose Cascade Outdoors... but there was NO hot water available and the lack of being able to take a good shower after the rafting trip did impede on our other plans. Other than that, Cascade Outdoors and our guide, Spencer, offered us a fabulously fun white water experience on the Ocoee River! We can't wait to return!!! :)

She kept instructions engaging & funny while also stressing the importance of taking what she was saying seriously. Her presentation style was amazing! The bus ride to the river felt like forever with excitement to get there. Lots of nerves for this first timer. Holly helped us practice & gave clear instructions. She immediately made me feel encouraged & capable. When we needed correction she was firm & motivation. She was a complete goofball. I genuinely think we got the best guide & would want her every time. The river was so fun! I left wanting more & being in absolute awe. I need to do more & will absolutely be back. Did the river on the Ducky inflatable kayaks…read more Good fun. We had signed up to go tubing, but got some advice from the proprietor. Good advice, as it turned out. After kayaking the river, not so sure if tubes woulda been a good thing. Not really a tubing body of water. It's a wide river with twists and turns and islands. Lots to maneuver around. Not to mention the occasional rock and/or tree branch. On a tube, you'd be at the mercy of the river gods. Anyway. Park in their lot, check in and grab your paddles and life jackets (required). Trip is around 2 hours. Minimal direction. Basically, get in the yaks, flow downstream, get out just before the bridge.

The staff members were really helpful…read more We brought our own inflatable kayak that is rated for class IV white water rapids and this river has some class II. We paid a small fee and were taken up river about 6 miles and dropped off. We had a really good time. This was our first time taking our personally owned kayak down white water rapids, but not our first time on whitewater. One of the staff members asked if we were familiar with this river and gave us some tips as to which sides we should be in throughout the trip back down. It was very helpful! When we arrived back there was a torrential downpour and they let us pull our kayak up underneath the overhang to deflate and take shelter, and when the rain calmed, they let us pull our truck up to get our gear safely inside without having to carry it all the way back to the parking lot. Afterwords we went shopping in the gift shop and bought a couple things. They have a really nice variety of items for souvenirs to suit many different interests and tastes. We will be back for sure! Best times to come are on weekdays. Weekends are very busy.

It's a nice retreat away among the flatland plains of Tennessee. They offer old fashioned farm cabins, wagons, lofts, condos and glampsites. Prices range anywhere from $100 - $200 per night. I was exclusively here to spend time introducing myself to the farm residents. The most popular option offered to visitors is the $19.99 Farm Tour & Animal Encounter. The tour lasts 75 - 90 minutes. Now...when choosing this tour, they offer 50% discount add-on experiences to entice guests to stay and play longer. There's the Kangaroo Encounter - $14.99 (normally $29.99) for 30 extra minutes saying hello to kangaroos. There's the Camel Encounter - $9.99 (normally $19.99) for 30 extra minutes learning about the two camels living on the farm including riding on their humpbacks. So...right there w/ the basic Farm Tour for 75 - 90 minutes and including the Kangaroo and Camel experiences, that's 2.5 hours of fun at Ocoee Riverside Farm for a total $45. I think that's a total bargain. And...they plan activities to coincide with each other so visitors aren't standing around waiting for their next interactions. But.... Ocoee Farm offers even more chances to get up close encounters with their animals. For extra $$$, everything is on the table, lol. More add-on animal meet and greets including.... - Sloth/VIP Encounter - $99.99 - two 30 minute sessions. - Baby Kangaroo Bottle Feeding - $29.99 - 30 minutes. - Sloth Cuddles and Snuggles - $119.99 - 30 minutes. - Hug -A-Highland - $19.99 - 30 minutes. - Horseback Riding - 20, 45 and 60 minute rides. - Fennec Fox - $14.99 - 30 minutes. - Baby Llama and Alpaca Feeding - $14.99 - 30 minutes. There's even more farm experiences guests can pick from... I added the Hug-A-Highland and Baby Llama and Alpaca Feedings for $14.99 each, which brought my total to $75 plus taxes and fees for 3.5 hours on a weekend day. The Farm sent me a confirmation email with a list and itinerary for the a-la-carte experiences I signed up for. They instructed me to arrive at 9am. I departed the farm by 1pm. Extra highlights... - With all the various animal interactions and guided tours, every staff member was ultra friendly and went out of their way to ensure guests left with wonderful memories. Fallon, McKenna, Michael and Vladik were knowledgeable about the animals and they kindly offered to take pictures and videos for visitors. - Included in the Farm Tour is the Petting Zoo where they provide a bag of pellets to feed goats, sheep, donkeys, llamas and alpacas. After the Petting Zoo, visitors step inside the Barn to greet...iguanas, parrots, an anteater, hedgehog, lizard, mouse, baby camel and adult camel. - Lastly, I met John, the owner. He shared stories about his life before Ocoee Riverside Farm, his time in the armed services and how he and his family are 100% committed towards giving their farm animals the best possible lives. I had a wonderful experience at this tucked away hidden gem in Benton, Tennessee. If you're near the Chattanooga, TN area, Ocoee Riverside Farm is a quick 40 mile drive east.
