Going white water rafting with my family for my birthday was everything I could have hoped for... and more! Our guide, Spencer, was incredibly skilled as he could have navigated blindfolded... yes, he's that good! Spencer was also an absolute blast to surf the river with... very friendly, knowledgable and well-traveled... he had plenty of amusing stories to share and kept us all very engaged. I should also mention that Spencer was also seriously great at gaging our comfort level vs. our spirit of adventure... therefore, he was able to navigate us down various paths of the river making it challenging and thrilling for us! While there are plenty of white water outfitters to pick from, we intentionally picked a smaller outfitter and we were so glad we did... we felt our experience was more personal, less generic, and seriously less crowded! I only wished I had sat in the front of the boat where the photographer was situated... that would have made a fantastic birthday photo. The only other "disappointment" was that Cascade Outdoors advertised about their HOT SHOWERS which was super important to us and was one of the main reasons we chose Cascade Outdoors... but there was NO hot water available and the lack of being able to take a good shower after the rafting trip did impede on our other plans. Other than that, Cascade Outdoors and our guide, Spencer, offered us a fabulously fun white water experience on the Ocoee River! We can't wait to return!!! :) read more

My sorority from MTSU went to cascade outdoors to raft the ocoee during our sisterhood retreat and this place did not disappoint!! A small business but definitely filled with the best and most intentional staff. They were so great accommodating for just over 40 girls. We all were split up into multiple rafts (about 4-6 per raft) but they still kept us as a group throughout the 5 miles we were on the river- making sure we could all laugh at each other. In partial, my group got lucky with HOLLY! What a GEM! She had the most contagious energy and you can tell she truly loves what she does. I didn't realize until mentioning her afterwards at our camp, that apparently she's pretty well known for all of her outdoor adventures. While guiding us, we also asked some questions about her life and some of her highlight experiences, which included some memories from rafting through Italy and the Grand Canyon. It's amazing the adventures she's been on and you can tell that she lives for what she does. She made our "dream team" laugh probably 100 times and kept the whole experience exciting even when we took a lil break. I absolutely LOVE rafting with Cascade!! They're experienced and so much damn fun! We went at the beginning of the summer, and had such a great time that we've been back for a total of four times. There's so much teamwork on the river, and you can tell these guys love their jobs and their clients. Even though we were new to rafting, they made us feel so comfortable and celebrated!! They're easy to communicate with. If you go multiple times, they'll remember you. You can also buy your pictures from your trip. Lauren was our guide twice and she's THE BEST. She knows how to have a good time and will guide based on the level of "wild" that you want (which should be a lot. It's ok, you're in good hands). There were a lot of companies to choose from for our first Ocoee rafting trip, and I'm so thankful we went with Cascade. They were awesome from start to finish, and I didn't see any other boats having nearly as much fun as we did. We loved our middle river trip so much that we booked a full river trip the next day. If you are thinking about taking a rafting trip on the Ocoee, there is no other rafting company to even consider. Cascade was recommended to my father-in-law by someone who worked for a different rafting company in the area. If that doesn't say a lot about the options, I'm not sure what does. And there are a lot of options. We learned there are about 20ish companies on the Ocoee River that have commercial rafting permits. Other things we learned (besides how to raft, but more on that later): Cascade is one of the smallest companies, meaning the guides go on fewer trips down the river per week. Some of the companies send the guides on 40+ trips. If I was someone's third rafting trip that day, I would be nervous about my safety. Cascade is also the only company owned by a river guide. He knows the river, the best equipment, and the proper way to run a rafting business. Also, because they're a newer business, the equipment is newer, and in great shape. We opted for the full river trip, which lasts about five and a half hours, with a lunch break. Upon arriving at Cascade, you sign some waivers, and get a quick introduction to the river guides. They then bus all the rafters to the river (about a 20 minute ride in an old school yellow school bus) and give a safety lesson next to the river. It is quick, but there really isn't a need for an extended explanation. The first part of the river includes the rafting course from the Atlanta Olympics. It's the only course that is open to the public, so there aren't a lot of people that can say they went out on an Olympic course. Following this section, you break for lunch. After eating, you move on to the middle Ocoee, which is also where the half-day trips begin. I'll say that we loved rafting so much, and we're already planning a return trip. We would NEVER skip the first part and go with the half day trip. They were both SO awesome! I feel like this is getting really long, so I'll wrap it up by saying we were so so happy with our experience at Cascade. The river gets a little crowded, so we had the chance to scope out other companies and how they did things, and it seemed impersonal, crowded, and a lot of the guides seemed young enough to require a baby sitter while their parents went out for the night. While fun, it is a potentially dangerous activity, and we trusted our guide (Dakota--request him if you can--AMAZING!)to know the river, rafting, and be hilarious while he's protecting out life. These guys are the OG's of the Ocoee whitewater rafting game. Four of us booked a trip at 4 AM for 2 PM the next day and we got in no problem. Our guide, Kevin was an absolute pro, he was getting props from all of the other guides for his skills and did some super cool stuff that none of the other companies were doing and was noticeably better than the others. Eddie, our photographer, was also an awesome guy and got some great shots of us from all kinds of angles. Cascade was my first whitewater rafting experience. And it was awesome! The tour started right on time and the bus trip to the drop point was only 20 minutes. The guides joked en route to put us noobs at ease. Once there, we were assigned to boats (3-6 per boat). Our guide was in control the whole time and made sure our trip was memorable. Caleb, Caleb, Caleb!!! Caleb was the best tour guide and calmed my nerves on my first ever white water rafting trip. He was extremely knowledgable and got us down the river safely. I never felt unsafe at all! The best time to go is first thing in the morning on a weekday because we had the river pretty much to ourselves and didn't have to wait on other rafts. He took extra time with us to do tricks and he let us get in the water three different times. We body surfed, got to swim in the calm open water, and we jumped off a rock into swift moving water where he plucked us up out of the water back into the raft down the river. The store is in a house but the inside has tons of t shirts to buy to remember the experience. The company also takes pictures of your trip and displays them on the big tv afterwards for you to see and potentially purchase. I would for sure love to come back.
