Market was giant. Everything looks organized and clean. I went for the seld served medium clam corn chowder ($7.00). It was alright, only had soup, potatoes, and corn. Wouldn't get it again. They have an area inside the market to enjoy your food. Service was great. read more

Super expensive and they act like Nazi's checking papers at the self checkout, walking back and forth eying your every move like your going to steal something. The guy came over to my cart when I was just about finished unloading and picks up my grocery bag that had oranges half under it and before I could notice myself lifts it up and throws on the scanner as if he caught me trying to steal 2.50 cent tangerines after scanning all the rest of my expensive items. Definitely going to keep it Walmart and aldies from now on read more

Ed's Foodland ran out of Salmon yesterday. Puza's wasn't open. Puza's is spectacular. So, I went to Big Y. The salmon had almost no flavor and a disappointing texture compared to the several weekly filets I purchase from Ed's. read more

Big Y has everything you might need for your good shopping needs. Store is spotless. I'm not a fan of the self checkouts but they are better than standing in line. Downside is that they are the most expensive store in the area. read more

They did away with their electric shopping carts. That's crazy. Some of us can't walk all over the store to shop but we don't have our own electric scooters. Shopping at Big Y used to be my go to when visiting family in Easthampton. Not any more read more

I love Big Y, as it's my favorite grocery store of all time. The atmosphere of this market is so welcoming and friendly, which always makes me want to come back again. The employees are great and are always there to help when needed. My favorite part of Big Y has to be the bakery and the deli, as everything is always fresh. The place is always clean and a great place to go shopping with your kids. Overall, one of my favorite places to grab groceries!! read more

I'm a Big Y fan. I go to the Northampton store all the time, and it's great; their selection, the service, etc. Unfortunately, the Southampton store doesn't live up to this standard. The service isn't as friendly here, and the selection isn't as good. I guess they're a smaller version of the store, but still: I wanted ground turkey last night, and all I could find were clearly on-the-edge-of-spoiled ground turkey burgers). I wanted feta, and unfortunately their olive bar is very small and didn't contain feta. It's unfortunate that it's not the same as the Northampton store, but, so it goes. read more

I haven't been to this Big Y in maybe 5 years. I live in Holyoke currently, but Northampton for most of my time in the Valley. Today, there was a backup on 91 south and route 5 south so bad that it looked like we'd be sitting in traffic for ages and I had my 2 year old son with me, so I decided to go around through Easthampton. As we're doing so, my son piped up from the back seat and said he wanted Yogurt, so we decided to go to the Big Y just over the line in Southampton. First off, it was freezing, and I wanted a warm cart for my two year old to sit on. They had 4 carts just inside the doors with those little cars in the front. My son has never ridden in one before, so that was a bonus. He LOVED it. Our usual grocery stores don't have these. And they were warm. and there were four. Next, it appears that this Big Y has recently had a face lift or at least since the last time I was there. Being a less Northampton-like area, I was surprised to see a huge increase in organic options, as well as Gluten Free selections. My son and I got to grind some peanuts into peanut-butter - something I would expect only in Whole Foods or the co-op. After cruising through the store, we got to the checkout lines. Being that this is the only real grocery store for Easthampton, Southampton and Westhampton, there were lines. So we waited in one. I knelt down next to the little car and talked to my son. When I stood up, an employee came over to me and asked me to come to a line he was newly opening up. Which was awesome. So we checked out, typical stuff, blueberries were wicked cheap (and really delicious and perfect for January) We bundled up and got out to the car. As I was turning around to walk the car back, there was again an employee standing right there ready to take the cart for me so I didn't have to leave my son in the car for the 30 second jog back to the cart return. I know they can't always be that spot on, but it was great. Also my son had a blast and didn't want to leave. He was yelling about the food from his little fire truck and beeping the horn. He was acting like the Mayor. Best grocery store trip ever. Also the bathrooms were clean. VERY impressed, Big Y. We'll be coming back for another fire truck ride. Maybe next you'll add an EV charger? edit: also, thank you for employing people in the community instead of replacing them with robots. read more

Beware of the seafood department- their lobsters specifically. My fiancé & I purchased 2 lobsters. One was dead so we brought it back to exchange it. We were gone no longer than 25 min & by the time we got home, the other was dead and the one they just gave us has a cracked claw with the meat coming out (photo was added). You can't see the into the container they pick them out from & I truly think that they are either kept or shipped very poorly. Please do not support this store when it comes to buying lobsters. read more

I honestly avoid Big Y at all times except closing hour because of the long lines. They never fail to have long lines. I prefer Stop & Shop or even Walmart because they have the self check out option. I'm here for 4 things, yet I'm forced to wait behind people with full carts. Super annoying. Not to mention the $.11 charge for a bag. Their competitors don't do that. And seriously.....where is their salad bar? read more

I don't like feeling like someone is trying to rip me off, so I have to stop shopping here. Have been about 3 times, and felt tricked twice. First time: a small piece of cheese tagged with a green paper price tag of $3.59 rang up as $5.59. I noticed on the receipt immediately and the checker gave it to me for free. Left feeling they resolved this pretty decently. Pretty much forgot about it. Second time: only one price posted ($6.99) for a shelf of three flavors of pork loin. Turns out the flavor I picked rings up at $11.99 (nearly twice the price I thought I would pay). Took it back inside where my checker was basically rude to me, but the return girl did quickly let me change it for the "sale flavor" and refund the difference. Bottom line: they have a posted policy near the checkout that if they overcharge you then the item is free (less than $10). So, if you have an eagle eye you may get some free stuff. On the other hand, if you relax for a second, or buy anything that isn't priced REALLY CLEARLY, you may pay way more than you think. I'm bummed about this, because their convenient late hours (until 10) made me want to be a regular here. Basically, I don't want to shop someplace where I have to memorize the price of every item I'm going to buy to avoid getting overcharged. Even if it's only a couple of dollars, it's a crappy feeling. read more

Whenever they have a decent sale they are always out of the product. This has become the norm at the Southampton store. Stop and shop is the opposite. Wish they had one in Easthampton.Also if you want produce at a much cheaper price go to pure foods. When they have a sale tag on a shelf be very careful because the item on sale may be to the right or left of the tag. Another deceptive practice of theirs. read more

Pretty much your typical supermarket as far as selection goes, although they exclude brand names on a lot of items in favor of their own store brand. Some things are OK, others, not so much. Produce is OK, not remarkable in any way. Meat is pretty average. Dairy selection is pretty good. There is a pretty good selection of frozen food and ice cream. Customer service runs from friendly and courteous to "I'd rather have a root canal than wait on you." Beware of the parking lot after 2 pm, apparently they hold NASCAR events there on a daily basis. read more
