One of my favorite stores they're always helpful, kind courteous willing to go out back and look and see if they have something you're looking for people. I recently ordered Chicken Wings around the holidays and again this past weekend for the Super Bowl. In addition, this weekend (24 hrs before the Super Bowl) I ordered a Veggies Platter, which is on their list of items to order, and since there were none available in the store. In both instances, when I arrived on time for pickup the wings were not ready and I was told they don't make Veggie Platters that are on their list of items that can be ordered. Again, there were none available in the store. They proceeded to cook the wings, while I waited 15 minutes. I would not recommend ordering anything from this Big Y read more

This is the best Big Y in their market. Modern spacious entrance with ample parking. Their fish counter is the gem with great wild caught salmon. They have plenty of employees who are there if needed. Clean, well laid out and a nice place to shop. read more

I prefer not to write anything negative because I like many of the employees at this store. I don't like going over the store manager's head, but I've been told not to talk to the store manager because he is too busy, etc. Issues-I have to travel to Whole Foods to get wild salmon (customers don't care if it is pre-frozen), Frequently I have to find a customer or an employee to get something down for me because the product is not pushed forward (told this store is lacking help) A few times because I couldn't find someone right away, I did something that is not safe-stood on the edge to try to get the product. I have been there first thing in the morning when the product was not pushed forward so it is not getting done overnight. Recently when I was at the fish counter, a male employee-think his name is Brad but not sure. While at the counter he was using his personal cellphone. When I asked him about this he said "I don't care if you tell anyone"! read more

This is a review regarding their pizza. While we like the pizza, it's been very difficult to order it recently. Two weeks ago, I called shortly after 5:00 PM to order a pizza for pickup, and they told me the pizza kitchen closed at 5:00. Today, I called at 12:30 PM to order a pizza, and they told me they were booked and wouldn't be able to make a pizza for me for at least an hour. It doesn't matter how good the pizza is if you can't order it. read more

On 6/20/24 3:20 PM. Returned to Big Y to order a pizza, following all their recent restrictions and once again, we were told the pizza area was closed. This time because the employee was all alone and had to close early. I guess Big Y does not care that their issues are causing shoppers huge disappointment. This seems to be getting worse. This is my go-to place for grocery shopping. The store is huge, everything is organized and you'll always almost find what you're looking for. I come here once a week to stock up on groceries. The prices are decent and there's wide selection of items from fresh produce, to meats, frozen foods and dairy along with a bakery section. You'll almost always find the item you're looking for or you'll find an alternative but you won't leave empty handed. The prices are reasonable The staff is friendly and all the necessary precautions are in place regarding this COVID situation. Masks are compulsory and all the shopping carts are sanitized after use. Overall, I always have a good experience in this store with their goods & services. read more

Stores ok but the bakery people NO PERSONALITY makes going there an unpleasant experience

This store sucks. They bought out Hannaford at that location and have been changing the products sold there ever since. I think they might have finally removed everything from the shelves now that Hannaford used to sell which Big Y normally doesn't. A lot of good products were removed either replaced by brands I don't want or not replaced at all. First, the quality of their bags went down. One-ply paper and crappy plastic bags. Then in order to save money, they decided that they don't want to offer "free" bags anymore and now charge for them. Of course, they try to perpetrate the hoax of doing it for the environment. If this was the reason they should happily hand out the reusable bags or use all the cardboard boxes that come in with all their products, like BJs and other stores do. Really cheap store. Many of the Big Y products are spoiled shorty after they are purchased. I have seen moldy cheese in the package on their shelves. There is one manager that works there that I witnessed on one occasion who was very rude to the UPS deliveryman as well. read more

Pros: -Great selection of international/ethnic foods: lots of Mexican, Indian, Chinese, Thai, etc. -The meat quality seems slightly better than average, especially their organic chicken breasts -Overall, it's a larger store inside than it looks from the outside, which means the selection is better than expected. The selection is definitely not as good as the massive Stop N Shop down 1A though Cons: -Produce is not desirable or fresh looking -Prices here seem much higher than Shaws or Wegmans -Just not as good as Wegmans; the bakery, deli, produce, and pre-made food isn't as fresh or there just isn't the same amount of variety read more

If the supermarket weren't about half a mile from my house, I probably wouldn't go. It's hard to argue with that kind of convenience, however. I have definitely been in worse markets, but having been in the Hannaford's previous to the changeover, I do think that it's declined a bit. Unlike other reviews, I do find the prices reasonable, and if you join their club, you actually get some pretty decent savings, especially with the gold coins you collect. I don't really know how to explain this, but it's just kind of dark and a bit depressing in the store. I'm not trying to be negative, and I don't complain for the sake of complaining, there's just something spartan about this location. Part of it is the plaza that it's in, and the mediocrity that goes along with the area. Perhaps a bit of sprucing up in the store would brighten the mood, and may even affect the employees as well, who also seem a bit stressed and mechanical, as if they are walking through life. It's sad to see. I've never had a bad experience here, but every time I visit, I can't help but notice. I do think their selection of food lacks from time to time. The other eviews have mentioned the same thing, but whoever does the ordering could stand to diversify a bit. Of the dozens and dozens of times I have shopped here, I don't think I have ever seen a manager. That maybe one thing that could exponentially help. If management has a strong presence, and is not afraid to roll up their sleeves, that in turn will affect the employees and their morale. There's just no urgency in any of the staff that I've seen. Overall, it's not a horrible market... They just need to work on the things I've mentioned, and creating a warm and welcoming environment. Besides the prices, if you look at Whole Foods Market and Roche Bros., they create those nice environments. Big Y could certainly take a page from those books. read more

My husband and I had been shopping at the Hannaford for 5 years before it recently switched to Big Y, and all I can say is what a disappointment, especially in terms of prices. There is at least a 20% mark up on the same items that we bought consistently every week when it was under Hannaford management. And the meat we typically bought is DOUBLE! Also, not all the items we usually bought were available, but that was a more minor issue (I realize they just opened, so perhaps inventory variety will increase). I will say that the seafood section looked pretty decent as there was a good variety of different types of fresh, wild caught options. The bizarre "coin" game is ridiculous. We are simply trying to go grocery shopping, not looking to play arcade games. Who wants to carrying around coins?! This is 2016...people don't even normally carry cash in general. In my understanding of how the coin savings work, they aren't even worth it as the items that are available for discounted prices with use of the coins are not items we would even purchase (like unhealthy foods, such as chips, cookies, processed stuff). We basically just threw away that coin. Overall, a major disappointment and way more expensive. We will definitely be shopping elsewhere now, which is upsetting as the location was pretty convenient. Be forewarned about buying seafood here. It is tough to know how old a piece of salmon or cod is. But shellfish is drop dead simple. Today I was sold a bag of mussels. But because it was in a full bag there was the date of harvest and packaging. I noticed the seafood guy checked each bag. Now, to be fair, I cannot be sure what he was checking. And perhaps he was giving me the newest shellfish. But that may be even worse in the big picture. But when I got home, about 10 mins away, and cut bag open after a 60 min life in my fridge, about 90 percent of the mussels were dead. How could I trust the other 10 percent? I get that mussels are not a big ticket item, but don't sell them if you don't intend to sell them without making folks sick. All I am saying is, for packaged food this store is fine. But I will not buy any more seafood from this chain. ---------- To add color after non- expert research, it sounds like a lot of seafood experts say mussels, after harvest are good for a week or ten days. For the record, these were 15 days. And the "Sell by" date was a full week additional... 22 days in total. Do they expect or hope folks to eat toxic shellfish? I am not saying they do, but asking an open ended question based on experience and data. read more

It was my first visit to the store after they opened on 09/10. I never been the old Hannaford Supermarket (which was earlier in this premises) but inside BigY, I overall had a good experience. The Seafood section was quiet clean, good stocks. The bakery section was also good. Dont forget to get a Loyalty card because you get additional discounts for using the same on the checkout. I would certainly visit more often as it is nearer to my home. I believe they would be a tough competitor to Stop and Shop nearby ( at least I would go to BigY more often). One suggestion for them is to keep some self checkout counters to save time. read more

Big Y is my favorite local grocery store. They don't have all the brands that you might find it of the stores, but they have enough. The prices are better. They have a wide selection of vegetables and always look delicious and fresh. Their deli selection is great. The staff is always helpful and friendly. They don't just tell me to go look in a particular aisle, they actually walk me over to the item itself. That's very important to me. I hate wandering the aisles repeatedly looking for a particular item. read more

The grocery baggers are complete savages. I got two bags of chips and two jars of salsa. The bagger put two jars of salsa and a bag of chips into one bag and the last bag of chips in a separate bag. I had two identical bags of chips and two identical jars of salsa. Who in their right mind goes 3 and 1? I would have accepted one bag and one jar in a bag. I also would have accepted two bags of chips in one bag and two jars in another bag. But this was just ridiculous decision making. I left feeling disturbed. read more

I shopped there for the first time yesterday. Spent over $80. As we got to the end of the order, cashier asked me for my savings card. I didn't have one. She completed the order, told me I didn't get any of the sale prices. I stopped at the service desk. A nice manager told me that if I filled out an application for a rewards card, he would give me cash back to more than cover what I would've saved. Left there satisfied and impressed by what they did for me. read more

I miss Hannford! Hannaford had consistently excellent prices, saving me hundreds of dollars a year (for a small household). They had a better selection of bakery store breads that were healthier (first ingredient was not enriched so and so). I have also had the experience of purchasing undercooked rotisserie chickens at this Big Y and they do not offer an antibiotic free version that Hannaford did. In the last few months in particular, the prices have been rising on most items. There a few things here and there that are less expensive than Shaws in Norwood on Nahatan Street. read more

*sigh* I miss you Hannaford's. The prices have gone up, some items are never stocked here, and produce is hit or miss (it was at Hannaford as well but I was hoping for an improvement). This place is only good for grabbing something really quick that you need for a recipe or dinner, but really not for full on grocery shopping. I gave it a try and really just cannot get on board, the Walpole location is bigger and better. But the prices, well those are the same and I would rather just go elsewhere. Another thing I noticed was the management within Big Y seems like they are trying to hard to be friendly, I like friendly service, don't get me wrong, but uhhh yeah sometimes it is a bit much and it gets to that point here. And one more thing for the road here -- TRAIN YOUR STAFF BEFORE ALLOWING THEM TO RING ON THEIR OWN. I had a poor cashier struggling to ring people out. She kept repeating it was her second day and she was nervous. She was stumbling over how to type in veggies, how to type in someone's phone number for their Loyalty Card and also when she was counting change. She clearly needed so much more than one day of shadowing to be on her own, the poor woman was so frazzled, luckily we were all very patient (no unruly people in line with me that day -- lucky for her) with her and encouraged her that she was doing just fine but there is no need to make an employee feel that way.You 100% need a Loyalty Card to shop here, that is the only way you can get sale prices, also they may scan one in for you, but they may stop after the newness of the store has died down. One plus is the bakery section which was great at Hannaford and seems to have kept it's quality/items...really, as for the rest of the store...it could really use some changes, thought we were going to get them with the new store coming in, but it is the same old store, same old disappointment and new disappointment with pricing. read more

Makes me miss Hannaford more every time I go in. On the plus side, they kept some of the Hannaford staff, and they didn't completely rearrange the store. Minuses are many. For starters, prices are at least 20% higher on most items. The nonsense with gold coins and roulette wheels is enough to send me right over the edge. And the place is crawling with "management" folks who seem to congregate in the aisles, and contribute nothing. Possible DATA BREACH? The store is convenient, that's why I shop there. I understand the store is going through growing pains, but less than a month ago I used my credit card their and it didn't go through, I was surprised that my second card didn't work either. Finally my third card went through, it was one you swipe, not one you plug in. 2 cards declined. The girl at the register, thought I was some kind of deviant who was over extended on his cards. On the way to the car I was on the phone to both companies fuming. I was assured that neither company, Discover or Citibank declined my purchase, and both have no record of ever receiving anything from the BIG Y. The cards came up declined so where did the info go? I called the store to ask what happened and the store manager at the time Jantell said she would look into it, never heard back. Called again and she said she would get back to me. I asked if this time she would put it in writing. She assured me she would, 2 more calls and I still am waiting. Nick the new store manager, Jantell disappeared, took my number and I have not heard back. I e-mail corporate the secretary to the owner, and have not heard back. The only thing I think of is a data breach, or some other nefarious thing they are trying to cover up. read more
