Big Y Amherst is one of my regular, weekly shopping stops. I especially enjoy their weekly sales on meat: The quality and value are very good. However, they play allot of games. I stopped in yesterday, 3/16/22, and they give me this BS story that all of the registers are down, except 2, but I can still download the app and also save ten dollars. People should seriously contemplate the kind of world we are moving in to, where we are all pawns lying to each other, to further enslave ourselves into the automated digital system. This type of system eliminates jobs, and feeds into the surveillance state, by tracking everything we are buying. Customers should be treated like people, as opposed to a commodity, where everyone's personal data is collected and sold off as a product. Now, if what I'm saying sounds a little crazy, let me ask you a question: In a nice world, do we flagrantly lie to people that registers aren't working, making people wait 30 minutes to check out of the store if they don't embrace your new technology? If this happens to you, and you care about living in a future where we still love each other, and treat people with real dignity and respect, I recommend shopping somewhere else. Don't allow the system to force you into their authoritarian nightmare world. Rather, you force them to be more caring about their employees and customers. read more

Pizza is awful. Sauce and cheese add color but no flavor. Very disappointed in my purchase. Unfortunately, I bought it twice and it was just as dry when I ordered a fresh pie. Why does a grocery store skimp on ingredients? read more

I do a lot of my grocery shopping at Big Y and enjoy the availability of organic and local products, and a great bakery/prepared foods section (esp. the pizza). But the main reason I am writing this review is to praise Magda at Big Y, who took care of everything for my son's 5th birthday party there. She was so wonderful with the kids, and gave an amazing tour. Our little party guests were so captivated to see the behind-the-scenes action at a place they've been to countless times before while their parent shopped. Unfortunately, staff cannot take gratuities, so the least I can do is sing her praises with an online review. She organized the whole event, decorated the party room with care, and arranged for all the food/beverages to be at the room, as well as cupcake decorating to be set up--and cleaned up! We could not be happier with her attentiveness, and for conducting an awesome Big Y birthday party to remember. read more

This Big Y has my fave brand of bread and yogurt that I cannot find elsewhere. The paper bag policy is good for the environment, but certainly not convenient. If you're going to pay for a paper bag, it should at least have handles... or be a bit thicker! A few heavier items and it rips right through. That's why Trader Joe's allows double bagging... and they are cheaper for groceries in general if you are on a budget. Big Y DEFF marks things up! Be careful of anything on sale & look at date labels carefully. Also... this store used to be open later... I wish that was still the case. All in all: not the best, not the worst. Definitely cheaper than Stop&Shop. Great weekly deals and coin deals. If you're unfamiliar with BigY, they give out these silver and gold coins where you can use them to pay a lower price on certain goods throughout the store (like dairy products, bread, fruits, etc). Very affordable prices, and definitely cheaper than neighboring supermarkets. If you don't believe me, grab their weekly flyers and compare prices! Clean, always friendly staff, and always very helpful. Produce is always fresh and weekly sales always have something worth buying. read more

I used to think the Big Y was a step down from many of the other supermarkets in the aria and then I found out they had oysters. So I got my oysters and then for the holidays I wanted to get my son Magic Tracks. I looked everywhere for them and then ordered them from the company. A few days after that I saw them at Big Y. Over time I have been finding more and more stuff at Big Y that I have completely stopped going to Stop and Shop. Sometimes I go to Whole Foods and Maple Farms but generally I just go to Big Y now. read more

I really hate Big Y. I grew up with Big Y as my main grocery store in Western MA. Then I lived in FL for several years where I became accustomed to the awesomeness of Publix supermarkets. Then I moved back to Western MA. The difference is night and day. Big Y is overpriced, never has exactly what I am looking for, the layout of the store seems really weird, (hard to find stuff in a hurry, seems to be designed to "trap" you). The staff is always, extremely rude, inattentive, and hard to track down when help is needed. BTW, went to buy a cold sandwich with EBT, they did not allow it. Never had this problem in any store over many states. Screw Big Y, taking my business to Super Stop and Shop from now on. read more

Big Y had lobster rolls on special for this Father's day weekend. Since they pride themselves on their fresh seafood and freshly prepared fried fish,etc.,we expected FRESH lobster. Instead there were pre-packaged rolls/lobster filling. Still reserving judgement ,bought them for hubby. They were inedible. Tasted very strong and fishy...awful! Not worth $10 *special* or any amount. Seems like the quality is going down at Big Y in seafood dept :( . read more

First I like the size of the store. I don't need hiking shoes to get from bananas to the milk --unlike Stop N Shop. I don't need an aisle of ethnic foods. If you do, go to stop n shop. Second Big Y is clean and well stocked. The deli and prepared food are good to great. In and out in no time. Good selection and clean. Why go anywhere else? read more

I love this store. My daughter has a severe milk allergy and Joe from deli knows the salads she can have, and if he sees us he lets me know what they have in stock. Alex and Nick in food prep are amazing, I went in today and they made me a fresh pizza because the kind I wanted was a little older. They know me by sight and always say hi with a big smile. I never have a long wait when I get other groceries and the cashiers are all polite. I've never had a bad experience. read more

Terrible service!! The cashiers are OK but the people work at the front desk is so rude. And the price is crazy, even more expensive than whole food but quality is lower than there. I hope I don't need to go back to this place but Amherst is a 5-college town, all the businesses can take advantage from students! read more

Went here today because the sales looked really good and Stop & Shop's looked really bad. What a mistake. Everything is still so expensive. We bought a couple sale items then left and had to go to Stop & Shop anyway. The one good thing I can say about this place is the sushi is really good. Like, restaurant-quality good. But other than that, there is no real reason to shop here unless you plan on going for the sales and then going to Stop & Shop to buy everything else. read more

The hot bar at Big Y is surprisingly good! They have several selections of standard American fare plus several Chinese dishes. On various days, they have Lo Mein noodles, Sesame Orange Chicken, and Sweet & Sour Pork. 5 stars because it's an easy spot for lunch with kids- quick, good, and affordable. read more

I love this store. It has everything in one stop. It carries all my favorite items. The produce is consistently the best! It's clean. It's not too big. Overall, I feel like I spend less.
