Anyone who knows me knows I am a bit obsessed with my hair. Not that I have fantastic hair, or hair for days or even somewhat cool hair. It's the exact opposite. I have hair that does nothing that I want it to do on any given day. My hair has always been an insolent teenager in the frenzy of newly developing hormones - both standoffish AND horribly emotional simultaneously. Add in the fact that my version of "styling" is "washing then putting in a hairband and not to be touched again for the rest of the day" and you can see that even though I have spent entirely too much money and have been taken care of by some of the most amazing hairstylists ever to roam the earth, my hair still always reverts back to deranged teenager state by the first wash after a luxurious blowout.
Until NOW. Now, I have a secret. A secret weapon. A secret weapon named Mitch. A secret weapon that I have codenamed "The Hair Whisperer." And honestly, as much as I would like to, I can't keep him a secret. He's amazing. If you were to come visit me from the mainland, don't bother getting a haircut or even a color before you come over. I'll take you to him, like making a trek to visit a monk in a temple; I will bring you to his door, deposit you in his hands and watch you come out after with a zealot glow on your face. I know that is what will happen because that is what happened to me at Mitch's Big Wig Salon in Pahoa, HI.
I went in to get a haircut first - to check the guy out and scope the vibe. Prior to my appointment, I had managed two haircuts in the past 18 months. One in August, 2012 before I left Denver and a second one in March of this year here on the island when I couldn't take the split ends anymore. Those were trims, not styles. They were a means to a (non-split) end. This time around I got a style. A layered, bouncy, bubbly style that made me want to do twirls. I do not usually want to do twirls. I rushed home and watched my boyfriends' mouth open in awe as he saw that YES, I was actually still a girl! Hurrah! .
So there's that. But then, oh then...I had Mitch color my hair last Friday. This time I rushed home and made my boyfriend go out to lunch with me because I had to SHOW OFF my hair. I can't even describe how well done the color was, so will have to post a picture here once I have a chance to take one!
So with that description I leave you with this: visit "The Hair Whisperer" and prepare to be amazed. read more
