Tori is nothing but professional. I was a little early but she let me come in early since it was so hot outside. She sat me down to do a consultation for my color and cut and pricing and we got started right away. She also shared that she had safety procedures in place including CPR, a medical staff person (Carrie) and an eye wash. I have never been to a place that had this in mind. She also shared information about how I should care for my hair and how to determine when was a good time to determine when to come back since hair grows at various rates depending on various conditions. Tori did my cut and styling. Carrie did my color and I was really happy by how much care they took not to get color all over my skin. There were even these little plastic ear covers that went over my entire ears that I have never seen before! They even went back to make sure my ears, face and neck were clean. The color was very pleasant smelling, not chemically at all so there was no burn or stinging. Tori suggested that I also get my eyebrows done and I decided to do this, too. I haven't had that done since before COVID, so it was overdo. Tori and Carrie not only waxed and trimmed my eyebrows but did coloring to match my hair. I had a little scar which she was able to cover up nicely so my eyebrows actually matched and were so natural. I wish that I had found this salon sooner. If I am back in Hawaii I will definitely come back to them. Reasonably priced, great service and such nice people.

The cost ended up being far higher than expected, and why I technically agreed, it didn't feel like a genuine choice in the moment. Overall, the experience felt more stressful than it should have, especially given how expensive it was. I just wanted people to understand before you walk into the salon that it is not a cheap salon. Her stylist, Laura did a thorough consultation and made excellent recommendations. My mom said she felt so relaxed and almost fell asleep while her scalp was being massaged and hair conditioned. Laura was extremely down to earth, sweet and educated my mom on the best techniques to give herself a proper blowout. Laura has been styling hair for over 20 years, primarily on the east coast and now Hilo is lucky to have her style and grace. I should be suing her, and I WOULD NOT recommend her to any one for hair services…read more It took me a while to do this review because I didn't want emotion clouding an honest review. I have spent the past month since it was done, a lot of emotional damage/turmoil and a few hundred dollars trying to fix what she has irrefutably damaged. I went in for an ombré, and a trim/style and paid $300 for the service initially (photo 1). I didn't receive an ombré, however, I received highlights which should have cost me $90-$130. I followed up with her and asked if she could redo my hair into what I had initially asked for (photo 2). She said that she could do it again after waiting a month or refund me $90; I said I would wait the month and asked her to do it again. She was pleasant when I got back into the studio and I had confidence that she wouldn't mess with my hair. I was WRONG. She proceeded to bleach my hair SIX levels in one setting (even leaving the room for 15 minutes after she put me under the heated hair dryer with tin foil over the bleached hair), causing my hair to become dry, brittle, unable to hold oil or moisture of any kind, and it has started falling out. (Photo 3). This is what my hair looked like before anything was done to it. (Photo 4 to show texture and photo 5 to show length) I'm going to have to cut my hair off and start over the decade it took me to grow it so long and healthy. I asked Jon (the stylist) to bring life into my shoulder-length hair, that was at this point, a blunt dull drag. He added some bleach-free highlights or "lifts" and blended all of my layers back in. There was a time in my life when I had luxurious Victoria's Secret-esque layers...and I have had so many janky cuts over the past few years that I pretty much said goodbye to that style. Jon gave me a heavy trim, and evened things back out. He is from this island, however he has done hair in California for over a decade and done a wide variety of work, including male cuts. I had to call 4 salons to find Hilo Style. I was getting no answer or voice messages and when I called Hilo Style, they actually answered the phone. They are located in the Kino'ole Plaza. There is no sign outside but if you park and go inside you will easily find them. A wonderful experience at a reasonable price.
