A Nice Barber Shop - Great old school barber shop - Hair Salons Near Me - Hilo, Hawaii

I did a walk in at this barber shop and met Debbie (the owner), she took me in immediately and I told her what I wanted. With no hesitation she started and did a fantastic job! She was quick and efficient and I was very happy with the outcome. Debbie did recommend texting her for future appointments as this place gets busy. Only issue I see is parking, as street parking in Downtown Hilo gets challenging at times, but this barber shop is worth it! The price was VERY reasonable at $20. read more

My husband came across this shop while looking for a place to cut his hair. Conveniently it's located 3 mins away from SCP Hilo Hotel & takes walk ins. He's never asked me to write a review, so I knew the service had to be excellent. The shop was busy but he walked out in less than 30 mins. Debbie the owner gave him a fresh haircut & trimmed his beard. He explained she runs the shop along with her daughter. Debbie was friendly, welcoming & professional, suggesting a different style which he loved. read more

Best kept secret!!! Call early, this professional is busy, great service will do that.

A 15 min haircut and has to be the best haircut I've had in decades. Better than many hour long fancy salon haircuts it have had. I live on the island and haven't found a good haircut yet. This was quick, inexpensive and excellent. I will be returning regularly. A 'nice' barbershop is an understatement. read more

Great little barber shop. Owner cuts hair very well. Reasonable prices for sure. Definitely recommend

Super kind people, well serviced. First time there, but will definitely go back next time

Amazing, fast and friendly service ! The whole experience was great! Will definitely go there from now on

Debbie was all around top notch. Excellent service, very friendly and personable, cut my hair the way I wanted. Can tell she has been doing this a long time professionally. Definitely going back. read more

Great price, nice people and a killer haircut in record time. Haircuts are very consistent and Debbie or Monique will do a great job. Don't tell too many people because it's getting hard to get appointments. read more

I moved to the big island about 3 months ago and was super nervous on finding a new barber. Thank god I found this place!! Monique was awesome! She listens to everything and goes over what needs to be done. She did such a great job and took great attention to detail! It was starting to get hot and she even washed my hair to cool me down! A Nice Barber Shop - Hair Salons Near Me - Hilo, Hawaii

I'm visiting Hawaii Island. Wasn't able to get a haircut before my flight (from O'ahu) so I was hoping to find someone "decent" in Hilo. Honestly, my expectations were pretty low, but decided to check Yelp and see who's #1 in Hilo. Looking at Yelp and thinking *A's Barber, okay yah. Reviews said it was cheapand service was good. So I walk in, kinda busy, but everyone seems to know each other. First thing I notice is that both stylists can cut men and women hair! And damn good too! I'm next up, and was immediately greeted with Aloha as if I've been there before. I told her how I liked to style my hair and she instantly knew what to do. She knew based on my hair type (and gitty-gitty) that my hair had to be cut to a certain length. After the cut, she even recommend how to better style my hair with clay. BOOM! Swaggin' It's worth it to move to Hilo just for A's! This is the best Barber I've been to. read more

My 94-year-old father was treated excellently by the staff. They gave extra attention to him because of his age and his haircut looked wonderful. read more

Not just a barber shop.... Actually the best hair for ladies, cut and color! I've got to say, Debbie and Monique are the an amazing and very talented mother - daughter team. They do wonderful haircuts and hair color/ highlights that rivals top salons with fancy names on Oʻahu or any other big city. Such a friendly and warm place, best haircuts and I have been going to Monique for highlights to hide my grays and she is magic. read more

I struggled for YEARS to find a reliable barbers shop here in Hilo, until my girlfriend turned me on to this place. Debbie has been cutting her hair for most her life, and she swears by her, so I gave her a shot and haven't been anywhere else in the last 2 years. It's a mother daughter duo that work there, and honestly you cant go wrong with either. I always just walk in and wait for whoever's available first, and have never been disappointed. read more

Love this place! I have been going to this hair dresser since I was a kid and it's been there for me every time I tried to cut my own hair. Now that I'm past that stage, thank God, I can really appreciate the great service and the quality hair cut and color I'm getting. Highly recommend A Nice Barber Shop. read more

Came in as a stranger left feeling like family. During my trip to Hawaii I desperately needed a haircut. I've never seen someone cut hair so fast and precise. Service means a lot to me and she sure delivered it at an incredibly good price. She was done within 25 minutes with a hair wash but strangely I wished it had lasted longer. It's a shame that I don't live in Hilo, my search for a stylist would've ended here. read more

I've been going here, and only here for 7 years. Debbie always knows what I want and makes sure I leave loving my hair! I'll always be a loyal customer for as long as I'm on big island. read more

Debbie is awesome! She did such a thorough job and she's really funny and friendly. Highly recommend.

This place is so under appreciated I had to literally go home and write this review. Family owned: Mother and Daughter hidden on the side and literally they are so amazing. I don't like super-cuts or master cuts place, but found this place from my housemate. I basically came in there feeling like some monkey and she made me find beauty again. Both have very good and skillful hands but the best part is that they make sure you leave satisfied with your haircuts. Monique and Debbie are wonderful people and they also make sure to give you a wash and style your hair for you if you are unsatisfied :) I will definitely be a regular here for my remaining time at school here. Also they are literally two people working, please help them sweep up the hair if you get the chance because they have consistent customers coming in. Try to do walk-ins because its hard for them to make appointments. Side Note: They have a waiting area on the side with chairs as well, place also contains Air Conditioning so no need to worry about sweating! read more

So I screw up my hair -- I bought a new razor thing, thinking I could do the trim on the sides myself. Welp.... nope I can't. It looked awful, multiple rat bites n all. Looking for a professionals help I stumbled upon this Nice Barber Shop. And it was truly a nice experience! The mother-daughter duo were so kind and welcoming when I entered. And the cut was done thoroughly and precisely. She really took the time to even my mistakes through. And the conversation was fun and easy-going. Try this place out! read more

My scalp is very sensitive to coloring and Monique is wonderful with Using the right type of coloring for me and is also very good with the color to cover my grays! Very friendly atmosphere & reasonable with their price. It is also a very busy salon for a mother & daughter duo. But they rock it! Anxious for my next coloring to be done. Too bad they don't accept Credit Cards , or I'd be doing my touch ups more oftened. read more

4 stars-- "yay, I'm a fan" New to the area, Yelp helped my find this little hair shop, just a block from the Farmer's Market. There was no wait when we arrived, and we got a pleasant young stylist who only works Saturdays (the owner was away). She gave us two great haircuts which were only $13 each, and she was very easy and fun to talk with. While my friend was getting his haircut, I could cruise the farmers market and adjoining shops. The stylist herself gets 5 stars for doing a great, careful, thoughtful job... but I'm withholding the last star on my review for the business, because it doesn't seem to be set up as much like a traditional "barber shop" as the place I am used to from the east coast mainland... where after your haircut, you also got your neck and hairline shaved with a straight edge razor, the barber burned out your ear hair with a flaming cotton ball, touched up your eyebrows, pulling out extraneous hairs by rolling red twine across your skin, and then finished everything off with a hot towel scalp massage.... I probably won't find that combination of services again anywhere, but I miss it! Overall we were very happy, and I would highly recommend the stylist we had, an attractive brunette who works Saturdays... didn't get her name though. read more

First time visit and best haircut ever! Expert at work. Debbie is a terrific. My go to place in Hilo.

Debbie was so awesome! My haircut was only $15 & she thinned out my hair like no other place. I used to go to one of those expensive salons but from now on I'm going here. You should check this place out! It's definitely worth it! read more

Debbie and Monique are the best! Great mother daughter duo! Made my toddler son and I feel very at home. This was our first haircut in Hilo and we were looking for a barber or salon to take my son to. Called a few places to check for appointments but didn't make a reservation. Called Debbie and she made me feel very welcomed over the phone so told my wife that's where we're going to take my son to get a haircut. Glad I did, the place was clean and sanitized but mostly importantly they were very welcoming and attentive to what style of grooming we wanted for our son. Will definitely recommend this place to family and friends! read more

I came here after reading others' reviews and I'm glad I went! Friendly and fast haircut and I've gotten a few compliments from my friends.

My first visit is in the afternoon, it's quite busy and so I left. I came in another day, in the morning, and they are ready to cut my hair as I walk-in. It's young barber who did my haircut. She is very efficient and trimmed my hair with a good judgment and a different perspective. This is my first haircut in the US, I'm a tourist from China. The experience and process is interesting and new to me and I liked the result. Thanks! read more

Awesome cut and color. Price good too. Friendly service. I'll certainly go back. I didn't even have an appointment. Was just going to get a trim, but my hair needed to be colored so bad. I asked if she had time to color it too? She said sure. The daughter did my hair. Her name is Monique. I have had a hard time finding someone that would cut and color for such a good price. And did a great job too. Thanks! read more
