I found this place by accident. I very good thing for me. In NJ a sub shop is a dime a dozen. Wally's goes the extra mile in food selection to put them at the top of the best list. When you first walk in you will be surrounded by beverages and chips. They do not have much room so the front of the shop also doubles as storage. This is not a bad thing and helps to choose what to drink. It also adds to the charm of the place. After you get pass the soda and chips you are confronted with the menu board or should I say boards. The first time I went there it took me 20 minutes to choose what to eat because I wanted to read all the choices. To save time a little research on their menu will keep you from looking like a stunned idiot like I did. Now the night before I plan what I am going to order. Wally's serves breakfast to London broil to pastrami to chicken to cold cuts to many more things. The thing I love most about Wally's is that you can have any of your subs be served on garlic bread instead of regular bread. It is a game changer for some choices. Definitely stop here and try them out. I know of only one other sub shop in NJ that is on their level. read more

Before i ever discovered Jersey Mike's, there was this place and this place is still better. Just happened to swing by after yelping subs so I popped into pick one up to bring home for the kids. Oh man was I pleasantly surprised after my first visit. Magnificence, the "Big Wally" is an Italian Sub on steroids with all the wonderful meat and all the works that you would normally expect including hot or sweet peppers unbelievably humongous and fresh! $10 for an over packed 2 feet of wonderful meat goodness. They also have an unbelievably large hot sauce, potato chip & refreshment selection so go nuts baby. CASH ONLY, BOO!!!!!! I'm not all that accustomed or quick to be posting 5 star ratings especially for a sub shop. After several overly satisfied visits I'm quite comfortable stamping my highest seal of approval. A hidden gem, for sure. The kind of place you hear about from a friend of a friend. If I lived a little closer, I'd come here all the time! (I am a sandwich fiend.) A tiny place with only a few tables, but friendly service. The specialty sandwiches--which they have no shortage of--written up on paper plates is a nice touch. OK, when I came here, they ran out of sun-dried tomatoes, but they replaced them with sweet peppers and my sandwich (the pesto) tasted excellent. My boyfriend had the appetizer and loved it. The garlic bread was a nice touch. Pretty reasonable prices, and even a half sandwich ($4.50-$6) was pretty filling. They don't skimp out on the sandwich toppings! Considering how often I've gotten a sub from here, I'm a little shocked at myself for having taken this long to review Big Wally's! I've been coming to this place ever since I was a kid and it was actually owned by Big Wally (it was since bought out, but the new owners operate it to the same quality). As a person who loves subs and has tried them all over the place, I rank Big Wally's in my top 3 in the state of NJ. All of their ingredients are fresh and delicious, cheeses and meats are freshly cut for each order, and their bread and mayonnaise are amazing. I went big wally and got my wife a salami and cheese. Meat was very generous, and the bread was the perfect amount of hard to soft. They got all the toppings correct, and the veg on the sandwiches tasted fresh. I also had a reuben right off the grill, and that's where they lose 1 star. I usually get corned beef, and this was pastrami, but it still tasted a bit too salty to me. Also, the meat had been chopped up to the point there was no way to eat this without making an absolute mess. That said, the bread was nice and toasty, and the sauerkraut was good. I'm going to start out by saying the subs are great. This was my first time going, and was impressed by the menu. I didn't realize some subs you have to pay extra for cheese and even toppings? That seems a bit weird to me. I shouldn't have to pay extra for cheese or hot peppers on a sub. In the end they screwed up and didn't even put the peppers on I was charged for. So for a whole sub, half sub and a bag of chips i paid $22 and change, too expensive. read more

New Favorite place for subs and a bit of what have you. I had a terrific standard ham, salami cheese sub. Heard good things about the roast beef sub. I split an Italian hot dog, it was great. They do eggs and bacon and Taylor pork roll and... as sandwiches and breakfasts. Didn't get a chance to try one yet but looking forward to it. Yum! Big Wally's subs are the real deal! So many options to choose from that it makes your head spin. I was stressing out trying to decide which one I wanted to try. Ended up getting the large (it's huge) Linsanity, which was excellent. The place has a real nice hometown feel to it too. We don't usually have any problem with the subs here. However, today both of our subs had onions on them, which we asked not to have. We also bought a bag of Wise BBQ potato chips that expired on January 11, 2016. Today is the 29th. I called to explain the situation and the person who answered told me I could bring stuff back and get new subs and chips, but didn't seem to care that the chips were expired. He explained that they buy the chips from Shoprite and that Shoprite must've sold them expired chips. Regardless of that they should absolutely be checking their stock! We had already eaten the sandwiches after picking off all of the onion. Because of this no refund was offered and we were only given the Shoprite excuse. Best jersey subs in the area! Their menu is very extensive and the prices are very affordable for the huge portions you get. You can literally get anything your heart desires on a hoagie roll and they'll build it for you. Or you can choose from one of their extravagant subs they've made up, like The Demolisher. This place is amazing, simply put. There are an almost infinite amount of menu items considering you can make your own sub or wrap. One motto of Big Wally's is "combinations welcome" and it is the best part of eating here. Everytime you go in, you can eat something new and exciting. Sandwiches with names such as the "Brahma Bull" and the "Demolisher" keep you on your toes and excited to come back to try something new next time. There isn't much to nitpick at when it comes to a satisfactory experience. The one flaw, or positive depending on how you look at it, is that Wally's is extremely casual. It is extremely laid back. You can come in and talk football with the workers or talk anything for that matter. It's a great community place, but don't mistake it for a fancy restaurant. I am in town for work and as always when traveling I like to try the local places to eat. yelp introduced me to Big Wally's and I headed up there with 2 coworkers. Ordering was fast and stress free. The sub itself was extremely good. The staff were extremely friendly as well. My coworkers both really enjoyed their food. Two warnings about this place: 1) The subs are very greasy. This is not a bad thing however if you are looking for a healthy sub look elsewhere. 2) They only take cash. They don't have an ATM on site either. If you are like me and don't carry cash on a regular basis you will need to run down the street to find an ATM. read more

I always heard fantabulous things about this place but the first and only time I went here I got food poisoning. It was a cheery spring day and my friend and I decided to have a picnic in my bedroom and needed sandwiches. We walked all the way from my house barefoot and I don't even know what we ordered but it was mediocre. We were super excited to get back to my house because we had already set up the picnic blanket on my floor. We ate and danced and ran outside to the swing set. Mid-swinging, I started to feel queasy so I had to interrupt my swinging on this cheery spring day. For the rest of the day, instead of swinging or picnicking, I was on the bathroom floor and without a sandwich on this fine day. What a disappointment.
