    Big YUM!
    Stephanie M.

So I've been craving home cooking without having to cook it or go home to Louisiana to get it. About August I came across Big Umm at the Hollywood Farmers market and baby it was ON! Now the market will be open Thursday and Friday too and I swear I might start doing that switch the food from the container to the pot thing I saw on television! Try Everything! Literally walk in and PICK you'll LOVE it ALL!

It's hard to pick a spot to eat at yellow green because there are so many options, so I was really looking forward to finally trying this place. Wanted shrimp and grits but they were out so for the gumbo and Mac and cheese. Gumbo was ok, Mac and cheese wasn't, but the atmosphere with table in the back gives them some extra points. I still want to try the shrimp and grits though

Yesterday, I was craving some good ole New Orleans Cajun food. So I yelped it and came Across this place. It's located at the farm market. It's not a full restaurant but they do have two tables located behind their place. The owners, Ellis and Charlotte (sorry if your name is spelled incorrect) are from New Orleans and are both incredibly nice. We ordered the gumbo, crawfish/shrimp étouffée, and crawfish bread. Oh man, all were good. I added some spice to the étouffée to bring it up a notch since they make it mild. Once I did that, it was the étouffée i once remembered. The gumbo had the perfect combination of meat, rice, and flavor. The crawfish bread was bigger than it looked on the menu. It was like a crawfish sandwich served on this soft French bread. Very yummy.

Outstanding service and food! It's so hard to come by authentic food nowadays. Came here to try their Cajun shrimp/crawfish sandwich due to other reviews on yelp and I was not disappointed at all! The sandwich itself is huge and filled with lots of meat, thank god! Definitely a sharable entree. The owner herself is so sweet and accommodating. Our family can't wait to come back here to eat again!

Lunch is served. Crawfish bread and shrimp and grits.

The food here is always amazing. This is our first stop every time we visit the Farmers Market. The shrimp and grits are a must s well as the crawfish bread. The crawfish etouffe got us hooked the first time we tried it, we usually bring that home to go for a future dinner. If you stop by the Yellow Green Farmers Market you have got to stop by Big Umm's booth.

This little spot is amazing. Southern hospitality and New Orleans cuisine in a laid back atmosphere. They are only open on Saturdays & Sundays as they are located in the Yellow & Green Market. I strongly recommend the jambalaya and the gumbo. You can even get the jambalaya served over mac n cheese which is a nice changeup. The owner provides great service. They accept credit cards too. Sit in their little garden in the back for an authentic experience. See my pictures on yelp!

The restaurant is on the east side of 441 just south of Sheridan street. We came from the east and made a u turn at 441 and entered the parking lot through the Mobil gas station. Parking is at a premium here as there's a Family Dollar store and a Sedano's supermarket in the same strip. They specialize in seafood boils. On the window outside they were advertising chargrilled oysters for a $1 each. Dine in only. Woohoo. My husband and I each ordered a dozen oysters and one side of potatoes. The chargrilled oysters were great. Dowsed in garlic butter, and served hot, they actually tasted chargrilled. They came with lemon wedges and a few slices of bread to sop up the oyster flavored butter. The side of potatoes were three small red bliss potatoes that had been steamed. They were plain -- no seasoning --but that was okay as I also dipped them in the leftover garlicky butter. Two things I didn't particularly care for were 1. that they served plastic ware to eat the oysters. And 2. They automatically include a gratuity on the bill (but they said so up front). To sum up: Bottom line -- liked the oysters (especially for $1 each) but didn't like having to use the plastic forks.

With a 15% automatic gratuity on dine in meals, this was still a bargain. The grilled oysters were very good and came with bread to dip into the garlic butter from the oysters. We also shared an order of potatoes. They do not have all The Bottle Beers they list on their menu and you can't go look at the cooler to see what they do have. The Men's Bathroom does not have any soap in the dispenser and the dispenser nozzle is crusted over, indicating there has not been any soap for a while.

We arrived Friday night and got seated as a table of 3 without having to wait. We shared the #3 combo which was perfect for 2 people. However, it took more than 30 mins for us to be seated or even addressed, we stood and waited for a hostess. Our order was taken more than 20 mins after we sat, even though we were doing an AYCE. Our server was very sweet -- again, I understand! But our service really was unfortunately not good. She had more tables than usual and across different sections so it seemed she kept forgetting to check on tables more often. We were there for over 4 maybe 4.5 hours, and the food was awesome!! The seafood was amazing, so well made and fresh, and sides were very yummy. It was just overall hard to get things ordered or get a servers attention. They also ran out of some items. Our server disappeared for a while, and eventually returned after more than 30 mins. She apologized for the poor service multiple times, but it just kind of ruined my siblings birthday experience. I hope owners/managers can be more understanding of their staff and correct this moving forward as it's also not fair to them :(

As odd as it is to go during the day and have brunch, I would say it is the move. You pull into a plaza where everything else is closed except for this business and say hi to the security guard stationed at the entrance of the place---at 11 AM---to walk into a lounge beautifully decorated with green walls, floral accents and a disco ball. It is clear that the majority of patrons come much later in the day, like after 9 PM, to get bottle service listening to a DJ or any other performer. This would explain why the air conditioning was cranked so high, to accommodate the bodies and electricity that would pack the place much later. Our server didn't crack a smile but immediately brought us water after we asked and rounded back twice to take our order. Like I said, going during the day when there are only about 5 other parties dining seems to be the move for prompt service and food preparation. The dishes came out super hot and fresh. The Creole Seafood Omelette ($26) was chock full of well seasoned shrimp and lobster and cheese, with a creamy roux on the side that was good to occasionally dip a bite into but wasn't necessary all the time. The potatoes that came on the side were just the right amount of crispy while leaving some heartiness to them. The Fried Chicken and Waffles ($26) included flavorful fried chicken with breading that didn't quit when you tore it or cut into it. The cool part of this dish is the choice you have of the waffle it comes with. The Cookies and Cream Waffles should be your go-to. They were topped with the chocolate cookie sandwich crumbles and a great homemade vanilla icing. For a Lauderhill establishment in an area where you really don't know of anything else happening, this place is worth a venture out for your brunch. I'd go back to try the other items and drinks!

The fried shrimp came out crispy, flavorful, and not greasy, and the sweet potato fries with cinnamon butter were such a pleasant surprise. We also tried the crawfish, shrimp, and sausage in the Mr. & Mrs. Crab special sauce packed with flavor and consistent with what I've experienced at their other locations. Portions are generous, the vibe is relaxed, and my sister is already talking about her next seafood boil. There was one small hiccup we ordered extra corn and didn't receive it with the initial meal -- but the team was very apologetic, I wasn't charged, and it all worked out. That's not say the others aren't also spectacular at anticipating your needs and menu knowledge, but she has a sparkling personality and doesn't miss a beat. It also says a lot when someone has worked there for years and years. It says without words that employee retention is a reflection of the company itself (management and owners). I definitely highly recommend this environment for those who enjoy a lively place as there is a fun and unique way in which they honor birthdays (a great spot for these celebrations), every guest is given a wooden mallet (hammer) to break the crab shells, however, when they announce a birthday wish over the speakers throughout the array of dining room options (one being a large barge on the canal), EVERYONE bangs their mallets on the tables which creates a cacophony of sound! SO much fun, but do not go there if you have a headache or are looking for a low key atmosphere. We adore The Rustic Inn, as it also has a very New England vibe and that happens to be where I'm from. It is consistently great, and it is a little spendy, but it's CRAB, so don't expect it to be cheap. If you want a delicious meal with top tier hospitality, in a down home environment, The Rustic Inn is the best around and conveniently located right off I-95
