a woman sitting at a table

First time visiting Carmel Valley for a bachelorette weekend ... and last minute at around 5pm on a Saturday evening we decided to try one of the wineries around town . Our first choice winery denied our group of 9 because we had no reservations. Determined to find one that would accommodate us and realizing it was pretty much closing time for most places... in comes BigSur Vinyard, we call them and a sweet woman welcomed us... even assuring that she Would set up a table for us right away and would stay open until we were done We arrive within 15 mins and turns out the woman on the phone was Lenora, the owner! She had the warmest smile and was Just so happy to welcome our group, especially the bride. She quickly poured us a glass of white wine to drink while she prepped our flight of wine tastings. She suggested the tavern next door for appetizers and she even allowed us to eat them at her table! THE WINE Ok so this places kills the red wine game, I believe most of us purchased a bottle. As for me My favorite was the Big Sur red And the Pinot noir Reserve. The whites were crispy and their viognier took me straight to the beach. Overall a great experience with amazing wine selections and the most awesome owner... thank you Lenora and Big Sur vineyards you made this Trip even more amazing.

I am going to get straight to the point in this review! This winery was part of the wine trolley tour day I shared with some friends. But, it is a separate review from the wine trolley. I have to mention the trolley because that is how we got to the area to begin with. And as the trolley drove through this enchanting area of Carmel Valley, our tour guide waved hello at the red headed lady and she waved back. NO, I do not remember her name, forgive me. I was drinking wine. Their COVID procedures were excellent and the wine tasters were given in little glass tubes. This was done to limit the exposure? Or perhaps the amount of the wine? Who knowes? But it was like a winery experiment and by the time we were here the buzz was going. It was fun to pour the wine out of our private glass tubes. And we got the most tasters that we had all day! The wine glass in particular they served the tasters out of was different and fancy. I purchased one for me, and one for my friend because it was her birthday. This winery spot did honor the wine token for a freee bottle of wine, well not free, it was included in the price of the tour, and I got a 2017 Zin, yes I said Zin, I am not a particularly fancy wine enthusiast, but I do know a good wine when it crosses my palate! The nice red headed lady who assisted me at check out was so nice and friendly that I ended up buying two more bottles, or was it because I had been drinking wine all day? Oh well, regardless, the Big Sur winery was fun. The outside patio had a comfortable couch we sat on, and plenty of other spots, all socially distanced. Cheers and happy Yelping.

Big Sur Vineyards is quickly becoming a favorite stop in the valley, especially when we want to escape the PG fog! Lenora, the owner, is a wonderful hostess. While very small production, the Big Sur wines are delicious. My husband, not a chardonnay fan, enjoys this chardonnay! It's one of my favorites along with the rose, reserve pinot noir and petite syrah. The pinot noir is surprisingly full bodied. They offer tastings even in this time of covid. For safety of guests and staff, all tastes are poured into tasting tubes and brought to your table to enjoy at your leisure. Speaking of safety, tables are spaced appropriately and sanitized regularly. Hand sanitizer is available as you enter the patio. The outdoor area is cozy, comfortable and being expanded to accommodate more guests. We loved the wines so much we joined the wine club! We are definitely looking forward to some member events! Do yourself a favor and give Big Sur Vineyards a try!

Lenora was the most incredible host when me and my girlfriends stopped by during my bachelorette celebration. We came close to closing and she generously stayed open later for us and allowed us to bring over some food from the tavern next door. We went home with several bottles of wine and smiles on our faces from the sweet memorable experience!

The hostess greeted us immediately with a complimentary splash of rosé and walked us to our table right away (no waiting, no confusion, just genuine hospitality!). Within minutes, our server came over and kindly offered us a few wines to try before ordering, which felt like a lovely mini tasting experience. We ended up ordering the Big Basket snacks, a bottle of Chardonnay for the table, drinks for the kids, and of course took a sparkling wine home with us as well. A small detail I especially appreciated: the wine box is simple cardboard without oversized branding or wasteful packaging - practical, elegant, and actually reusable. The atmosphere here is absolutely wonderful: a beautiful courtyard, soft music, charming decorations hanging in the trees, a cute swing, and some of the most gorgeous blooming bushes and landscaping we've seen at a winery. The entire place feels so thoughtfully maintained, peaceful, and inviting. We spent a couple of hours there without even wanting to go anywhere else afterward. We took so many photos and already know we'll definitely be back. Thank you, Holden, and the whole team for turning our day around.

Nestled along the rolling hills, the estate has an immediate sense of calm, quiet, elegant, and intentionally intimate. It's the kind of winery where the experience feels carefully curated, yet completely unpretentious. The wines themselves are exceptional. Pelio leans into cool-climate sophistication, producing whites and reds that are wonderfully balanced, expressive, and full of character. Their Pinot Noir is especially noteworthy, bright, layered, and gently complex, with a finish that feels almost coastal in its freshness. The Chardonnay is equally impressive: crisp, clean, and beautifully textured without ever being over-oaked. Every pour reflects thoughtful winemaking and the unique Carmel Valley microclimate. The staff is knowledgeable without being pushy, offering insights into the estate's philosophy, vineyard practices, and terroir with a genuine sense of enthusiasm. The setting, surrounded by vineyards, soft breezes, and sweeping valley views, makes it easy to linger. If you're exploring Carmel Valley's wine scene, Pelio Estate is an absolute must-visit.

Their wines are crushed, fermented, and bottled in Mendocino county and the family lives here locally and runs their wine business here in Monterey County (they also have a new tasting room in Monterey). Julia was our hostess and runs the tasting room in the village (and it sounds like she runs their family business as well). My wife and I enjoyed a flight of 5 wines. We liked their reds (Grenache, Syrah, and Zinfandel) more than their whites. All three reds were older 'library' wines, being 10-12 years old, which is unusual and a fun angle to their wine tasting offering. We haven't experienced being served older wines in the neighboring wine rooms, which makes blue fox unique in the village. Blue Fox had an unassuming tasting room, but has spectacular exterior grounds. Lots of room for serving large parties. In fact, they have a beautiful wood burning pizza oven for serving flatbreads on Sunday and have live music on occasion. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Blue Fox and learning about Julia and her husband's family business. We will be back with friends and family on Sundays to try their wood fired flatbreads paired with their delicious Syrah.

From the moment we walked in, Marissa took wonderful care of us. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the wines but also warm and unpretentious. You never felt rushed, and she made the whole tasting feel relaxed and personal. But the real highlight came when Adrian, the winemaker, joined us. Instead of a quick hello, he sat with us and spent real time sharing his story, how he came to winemaking, the "why" behind the wines, and even stories about his growing family. It turned what could have been a simple tasting into something much more memorable. This is exactly what we love about Carmel Valley compared to Napa or Sonoma. Here, the winemakers still pay attention. They sit down with you. They give you time. You leave feeling like you've not only tasted great wine, but actually connected with the people behind it. The wines were excellent, but the hospitality is what made the afternoon unforgettable.
