My wife and I went to scratch for the first time a few days ago. Their space is wide open with unique furnishings and light fixtures. Lots of natural lighting. Leo greeted us and was our server. He was friendly and still working on his wine knowledge. He is fairly new to the wine world. But what he lacked in technical knowledge, he made up for with his friendly/positive personality. Scratch offered 2 wine flights with 6 different wines per flight; $25 and $30 respectively. My wife had one, and I had the other. We enjoyed their 2022 KW Ranch Pinot Noir and their 2023 Rose (made from Pinot grapes). Scratch is worth while to check out. read more

This place was absolutely perfect! The aesthetics were beautiful and stunning! From the brightness and uniqueness of the furniture to the wall art, to the upbeat music in the background. Everything was beyond perfect. In addition to the aesthetics, our hostess Annissa was beyond amazing! She was friendly, knowledgeable about the wines and very attentive to us. I ordered a glass of wine. As I was drinking it, I realized I didn't enjoy the aftertaste. I went back and explained. The server gave me a couple of more tastings. I have been twice and both times I have had credit card issues. First time, I got it fixed on the spot (price was too high for a glass of wine and they made the mistake of charging me for a bottle). Second time, I made purchases of 2 bingo cards and 2 glasses of wine (separate charges each). Then I checked my bank statement and they charged another amount of $64.61. I had to report the charge and awaiting a new credit card in the mail. Be careful and vigilant when purchasing from there. ALWAYS get a receipt. read more

Beautiful modern interior that feels both homey and elegant (almost like one of those luxury designer VIP rooms...that I have never been to but seen on YouTube). Combined with the nice soft natural lighting and friendly, non-pretentious service, Scratch was a really fun place to relax with friends over some wine. You have the option of a $25 or a $35 tasting of 6 wines. We enjoyed the majority of the wines in the $35 tasting but didn't get a chance to try the $25 one. The pricing seems very reasonable. The pours are standard tasting pours. We enjoyed the place so much that when the tasting was over, we wanted to stay longer so ordered one of their wine cocktails (kinda like a slushy rose) for $15 that was delicious and encouraged us to order another round. Of course at this point we then got hungry and couldn't help but order a $25 charcuterie board with 2 meats, 2 cheeses, 2 types of crackers, olives, and almonds. Fair portion for 2 people. Tasting fee is waived if you buy 2 bottles (for the 25 dollar tasting) or 3 bottles (for the 35 dollar tasting). Cheapest bottle was their $28 Riesling which was too dry for us (but worked out great in their cocktail). Most other bottles are $30-$40 and above. Again, service was really friendly and awesome. Absolutely INCREDIBLE wines! My wife and I came in for a tasting by a recommendation from another tasting room. My initial impression was it's a very beautiful and aesthetically pleasing space. We met the woman running the bar and decided to just share a taste (the C-47). We got poured an extra taste of their Rosé by accident which was, quite honestly, the best Rosé I have ever had. I walked back to get our pour of Rousanne-Marsanne and remarked how wonderful the nose was--which was like honey and toasted nuts. The flavor was delicate and balanced. I began to tell her how much I was enjoying the wines so far and was looking forward to trying the Pinot Noir. I told her how much I loved Wrath wines and she said, "well, I make those". It turned out that the woman behind the bar was Sabrine, who makes Wrath wines which I have been enjoying for about ten years--my absolute favorite! I had heard so much about this winemaker and her reputation and I have always wanted to meet her. What an amazing experience. So this is Sabrine's winery/tasting room. She began pouring the reds and each one was better than the last and each one was absolute perfection. All were rich in flavor, depth, complexity, and balance, but all were structured with such refinement and artistry. We got a Pinot and a Grenache, but I wanted one of each of what she had. Sabrine is more than a winemaker, she is an artist and I can not wait to return. It was a great wine tasting experience and I can not recommend Scratch Winer enough. This should be on the top of your list if visiting Carmel Valley for wine tasting. read more

First time in Carmel Valley and not too many places are open on a Monday. We found this one open and it's connected to two other wineries with a shared outdoor dining area. We chose this because it's offering of beer, wine and small bites. Really nice relaxing vibe. I think this would be great with groups though it was a nice date place before heading home. read more

We did Welcome Drinks at Scratch for our wedding weekend. First off, the space is beautiful- very open with a few seating options- it was perfect for what we were looking for (open cocktail hour vibe). I would say we had about 70-100 guests and there was room for everyone to mingle and walk around. The wines were delicious and the charcuterie boards were great for our guests to graze on. So I must update my review of Scratch! A few years later, they have a new, beautiful tasting room in Carmel Valley and what have become some of my favorite wines! The winemaker, while still making wine for Wrath, is doing her own thing here. We stopped in to retaste the wines about a month ago. We loved every one! While we certainly did not need another wine membership, we could not resist becoming members here. The tasting room is beautiful, modern, and comfortable. Scratch is located right by Joyce and The Wine House so there is an abundance of outdoor seating in a beautiful setting. The staff is simply wonderful - welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable about the wines. Reservations are not required for tastings at this time. I would love to provide notes for every wine I tasted, but suffice it to say I enjoyed each and every one. Stop by and come see for yourself all this great winery has to offer. The wine was decent, but the service (or lack thereof) was the absolute worst I have ever experienced in a tasting room. The only staff person there on site could not have been more disinterested in servicing us or the other guests that were present, but rather she spent most of her time scrolling on her mobile phone behind the counter. Three of us ordered a tasting and more than a few times, we had to flag her down for the next round. Compare this to the other nearby wine-tasting rooms that had friendlier, attentive staff and not surprisingly, were much busier. It's a shame since the company seemed to invest in a nicely decorated environment, but the service ruined the overall experience. read more

My oldest daughter and I visited the new Carmel Valley Tasting Room on Father's Day with my hounds, of course! Lilly remembered and welcomed us all to the beautiful new space with fantastic seating options inside and out. Sabrine Rodem (the proprietor and winemaker extraordinaire) did a fantastic job setting up this tasting room to showcase her very tasty selection of wine. Lilly was pouring a sparkling white and a sparkling rose that are perfect for warm weather, and Sabrine's reds were a joy to finish the tasting with. Carmel and Carmel Valley are beautiful places to visit with or without your dog(s). Lilly and the tasting room staff make everyone feel like old friends, and that includes the furry four-legged visitors. Do yourself a favor and visit Scratch in their new Carmel Valley location. I love love love Scratch! This is my favorite place to come for a glass or two on my day off. There's always good music, welcoming staff, and a gorgeous environment to unwind and enjoy delicious wine!! The tasting room manager Maria is always so sweet and attentive, and Sabrine the owner is such a genuine, kind person to chat with when you're lucky enough to run into her. It's not often that I like everything I try off of a tasting menu, but it happened here at the Scratch Tasting Room in Carmel Valley. I'm not a white wine drinker, but both the sparking and Riesling wines were good. A nice Grenache, two great Pinot Noirs and an excellent Cabernet Sauvignon were also on the tasting menu the day we visited. The tasting room is gorgeous and the various areas to sit on the patio are welcoming and relaxing. Our server was knowledgeable about the wines and made great pairing suggestions. Highly recommend stopping by for a tasting! My partner and I decided to stop by during our first day in Carmel after we saw that this was one of the few places open till 8pm on a Friday. Because of COVID they have a cute little outdoor area setup with seating and it's more than enough space to enjoy your time there while you enjoy a tasting. Their tastings are only $20 for 6, and they have some nice pours;) not like a lot of other places that pour very little wine when doing a tasting. The wine was great, but I have to say the service we received made it even better! First I was afraid I was petrified but I waked inside anyway..... Obviously the wine was incredible they didn't poor a single bad glass. The Grenache is a must you have to get a glass before they run out. The art work on the bottles are enough for my hipster soul to sign up for a wine envoy membership (sadly we are broke from our wedding last week....this was our honeymoon trip to Carmel and it was a dream). Ali and Amber gave us our best wine tasting experience in Carmel. This place is an absolute must on your wine walk. Once we sat down for our tasting Ali and Amber were two of the two most enchanting wine ambassadors around the Carmel by the Sea area. They can tell you story for days. Please just don't bring up the cult in Montana that Ali escaped. Amber is one of the most engaging hosts we have met and Ali is the kindest human you will speak to in Carmel. They made us laugh. They made us cry. We held hands. It's was a dream that we weren't sure actually happened but when we saw the bottles of amazing wine we bought the next morning we knew it was real.
