Date night with hubby
Jelina B.

This place was absolutely perfect! The aesthetics were beautiful and stunning! From the brightness and uniqueness of the furniture to the wall art, to the upbeat music in the background. Everything was beyond perfect. In addition to the aesthetics, our hostess Annissa was beyond amazing! She was friendly, knowledgeable about the wines and very attentive to us. We didn't have any food here, but were informed if we purchased food from the restaurant nearby, we were allowed to bring it in. How much better can this place get?!! Whoever decorated this place, Bravo to you! Absolutely BEAUTIFUL! Perfect date night for hubby and I. We will be returning

Super cute spot, they have great wine and wine slushies!! Anissa (hopefully I spelt that right) served our wine and was super sweet and knowledgeable!! The ambience was amazing, so incredibly chic!

This wine tasting venue was very relaxed and quaint. Great taste of wines. Great sommeliers that were very knowledgeable and gave generous pours. Very open and spacious. There is a small parking lot that is shared with a few other wineries but there is also street parking, Definitely a place to visit if you are in Carmel Valley.

Beautiful modern interior that feels both homey and elegant (almost like one of those luxury designer VIP rooms...that I have never been to but seen on YouTube). Combined with the nice soft natural lighting and friendly, non-pretentious service, Scratch was a really fun place to relax with friends over some wine. You have the option of a $25 or a $35 tasting of 6 wines. We enjoyed the majority of the wines in the $35 tasting but didn't get a chance to try the $25 one. The pricing seems very reasonable. The pours are standard tasting pours. We enjoyed the place so much that when the tasting was over, we wanted to stay longer so ordered one of their wine cocktails (kinda like a slushy rose) for $15 that was delicious and encouraged us to order another round. Of course at this point we then got hungry and couldn't help but order a $25 charcuterie board with 2 meats, 2 cheeses, 2 types of crackers, olives, and almonds. Fair portion for 2 people. Tasting fee is waived if you buy 2 bottles (for the 25 dollar tasting) or 3 bottles (for the 35 dollar tasting). Cheapest bottle was their $28 Riesling which was too dry for us (but worked out great in their cocktail). Most other bottles are $30-$40 and above. Again, service was really friendly and awesome. Would love to bring some friends here to catch up and relax.

First time in Carmel Valley and not too many places are open on a Monday. We found this one open and it's connected to two other wineries with a shared outdoor dining area. We chose this because it's offering of beer, wine and small bites. Really nice relaxing vibe. I think this would be great with groups though it was a nice date place before heading home.

Scratch is worth going ourlt of your way for. Fantastic on a hot day - or on any day really. The ambiance is fantastic, indoor or outdoor seating space is creative, filled with beautiful art and comfy seating options whether you're coming alone or with a large group. The patio is very dog friendly :-) The wine selection is pretty good, and the staff is very knowledgeable and offers great recommendations based on your taste or preference.

Large hip interior and spacious outside seating area

Do we need a reservation to taste right now?

Hi I went about 1.5 months ago and I didn't need one. I'm guessing still the same. Great spot FYI

The hostess greeted us immediately with a complimentary splash of rosé and walked us to our table right away (no waiting, no confusion, just genuine hospitality!). Within minutes, our server came over and kindly offered us a few wines to try before ordering, which felt like a lovely mini tasting experience. We ended up ordering the Big Basket snacks, a bottle of Chardonnay for the table, drinks for the kids, and of course took a sparkling wine home with us as well. A small detail I especially appreciated: the wine box is simple cardboard without oversized branding or wasteful packaging - practical, elegant, and actually reusable. The atmosphere here is absolutely wonderful: a beautiful courtyard, soft music, charming decorations hanging in the trees, a cute swing, and some of the most gorgeous blooming bushes and landscaping we've seen at a winery. The entire place feels so thoughtfully maintained, peaceful, and inviting. We spent a couple of hours there without even wanting to go anywhere else afterward. We took so many photos and already know we'll definitely be back. Thank you, Holden, and the whole team for turning our day around.

Nestled along the rolling hills, the estate has an immediate sense of calm, quiet, elegant, and intentionally intimate. It's the kind of winery where the experience feels carefully curated, yet completely unpretentious. The wines themselves are exceptional. Pelio leans into cool-climate sophistication, producing whites and reds that are wonderfully balanced, expressive, and full of character. Their Pinot Noir is especially noteworthy, bright, layered, and gently complex, with a finish that feels almost coastal in its freshness. The Chardonnay is equally impressive: crisp, clean, and beautifully textured without ever being over-oaked. Every pour reflects thoughtful winemaking and the unique Carmel Valley microclimate. The staff is knowledgeable without being pushy, offering insights into the estate's philosophy, vineyard practices, and terroir with a genuine sense of enthusiasm. The setting, surrounded by vineyards, soft breezes, and sweeping valley views, makes it easy to linger. If you're exploring Carmel Valley's wine scene, Pelio Estate is an absolute must-visit.

Josh and Julie are the perfect hosts as are the wonderful staff (Jon Karlos & Aubry) who always make us feel welcomed. I am a huge fan of their Reds, the Zinfandel they did an unfiltered Zinfandel . It's fun to taste both versions side by side. Aside from the sediment present in the unfiltered version, I would have to say that version is my choice, but both are quite nice. Their Cabernet Sauvignon is not your typical heavy cab. It's fruit forward and somewhat light making it easy to drink with or without food, and also is available in unfiltered. The Petite Syrah is their heaviest wine and just begs for some hearty BBQ to enjoy with, this also is available in unfiltered. The unfiltered Reds may or may not be available as their is a limited amount bottled. The wine clubs are affordable and ship only 3 times per year. With membership, you are offered free tastings and a generous discount. The wine club pick up parties are wonderful.....great food, live music and plenty of wine flowing in a lovely location. If you are in the area, give it a try, you won't be sorry.

Turns out to have worked in our favor as we had a very good experience. JK, who is mentioned in other reviews, was an excellent host. We lucked out with not many patrons when we first got there, so we got pretty much all his attention. He did a great job of discussing the wines being poured, and gladly engaged in other conversation. The wines were excellent and the space was comfortable. There is also outdoor seating areas that looked nice. Definitely worth stopping at again in the future. There is a store just a few steps away where you can buy good crackers to have with your tasting.

Their wines are crushed, fermented, and bottled in Mendocino county and the family lives here locally and runs their wine business here in Monterey County (they also have a new tasting room in Monterey). Julia was our hostess and runs the tasting room in the village (and it sounds like she runs their family business as well). My wife and I enjoyed a flight of 5 wines. We liked their reds (Grenache, Syrah, and Zinfandel) more than their whites. All three reds were older 'library' wines, being 10-12 years old, which is unusual and a fun angle to their wine tasting offering. We haven't experienced being served older wines in the neighboring wine rooms, which makes blue fox unique in the village. Blue Fox had an unassuming tasting room, but has spectacular exterior grounds. Lots of room for serving large parties. In fact, they have a beautiful wood burning pizza oven for serving flatbreads on Sunday and have live music on occasion. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Blue Fox and learning about Julia and her husband's family business. We will be back with friends and family on Sundays to try their wood fired flatbreads paired with their delicious Syrah.

From the moment we walked in, Marissa took wonderful care of us. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the wines but also warm and unpretentious. You never felt rushed, and she made the whole tasting feel relaxed and personal. But the real highlight came when Adrian, the winemaker, joined us. Instead of a quick hello, he sat with us and spent real time sharing his story, how he came to winemaking, the "why" behind the wines, and even stories about his growing family. It turned what could have been a simple tasting into something much more memorable. This is exactly what we love about Carmel Valley compared to Napa or Sonoma. Here, the winemakers still pay attention. They sit down with you. They give you time. You leave feeling like you've not only tasted great wine, but actually connected with the people behind it. The wines were excellent, but the hospitality is what made the afternoon unforgettable.
