During a trip to Monterey for my folks' 40th wedding anniversary, we were strolling around Carmel and looking for some wineries that had affordable tastings and solid reviews. My brother had visited Wrath only to purchase a bottle a couple years ago, and out of convenience, having parked in the garage right by the Carmel Plaza, Wrath seemed like a decent place for a wine tasting on a Saturday afternoon. Kathy was fantastic - very accommodating to our party of 6+baby+stroller, as we were able to sit outside and also listen to some of the live music, which the non-wine-tasters in the party enjoyed. I ended up getting the Single Vineyard Tasting, which came with 5 wines (one white, four reds, mostly Pinot). All were very tasty, had a great smell (i.e. not too vinegar/alcohol-y), and were overall decently priced between $29-$55 per bottle. I personally enjoyed the KW Ranch - sweet and smooth, and purchased a bottle, but we also just really appreciated the atmosphere and service of Wrath winery! read more

Stopped in for one of the three wine tasting offers (see menu). I ended up getting the winemaker's tasting which started from lightest to boldest beginning with a Chardonnay and ended with a Grenache-Syrah. The wines were all good quality and my favorite ended up being the 115/667 Pinot. Note that the numbers reference the clones of grapes used in the wine. We ended up walking away with two bottles. Service was friendly and attentive. There was less of a show compared to other tastings but enough for me. I also received a couple of complementary pours based on my feedback / preferences of wine profile. The store was a decent size and could house around 15 people comfortable for sitting space. Previously have been to Wrath about 4years ago and enjoyed it but was very dissatisfied in the service this time. The wine is still good but unfortunately the two ladies working were quite rude. Talking about guests openly yet thinking they were being discreet. Both seemed to be all over the place with the tastings and loosing track of where we were with the tastings. Although I have enjoyed Wrath wines for years at the winery on River Road, every experience I have had at the tasting room in Carmel was negative due to the employees. They were snooty, overly opinionated and lacked fundamental customer service skills. On more than one occasion the server would not leave us alone and just kept trying to make conversation. If you are asking me to pay a tasting fee and to pay premium prices for your wine, than please show me some respect by limiting your small talk and/or invasive inquires. read more

Been here before and for the most part like their wines. In todays visit the had a wine on special for $34.30 a bottle. Loved it and was prepared to buy 2 bottles until I asked if by purchasing the two bottles if it would apply to the $70 in purchases to waive a tasting fee. The answer: It has to be $70, pre tax to qualify. So let's do the math and let you decide how you'd feel as a customer ready to purchase wine. Tasting fee for two of us: $45 Wine we were going to purchase: $68.60 If they had waived one $20 tasting fee the sale would have been $93.60 pre-tax. I was disappointed in the experience and wine tasting here. I haven't been to Carmel in a long time and always wanted to go to a wine tasting room/bar in Carmel to experience it but unfortunately it wasn't as pleasant. Me and some co-workers found this place because it's one of the only places within the inside of downtown so we decided to try it out. We each ordered a flight that consisted of mostly pinots and chardonnays. These were about $20 each set while the cheese platter was the same price at $20. I really didn't like how we experienced their wine. Our host who poured our drinks took way too long talking "nonsense" and kept slowing down on certain sentences. It was annoying to be honest. Our host didn't make sense. Here are some examples: 1) He made us look at the painting of the winery/house on the wall and just basically said, that's where the wines come from. LOL 2) He couldn't answer anything we threw at him such as how does elevation affect the taste of wine (even though we already knew why). 3) He asked for our names first rather than him introducing himself from the start. 4) As he poured our glasses (tiny pours), he just wouldn't leave us alone. He tried to make conversation and we couldn't focus on our flights. The timing of the pours were way too short; no time to enjoy each glass. I'm sure he was new to the wine culture and job so I'll give him that pass but that doesn't take away from what things he should've done such as the basic customer service skills. Aside from our service, the wines weren't even that great tasting. Each one tasted too young, too sour, too bold. None of these paired well with our cheeses. The crackers don't even pair well with the cheeses itself! They need to change that. I'm not coming back. The prices of their flights are great and the cheese platter price is just right but the tastes of their wine selections and service can be a bit upgraded. They should also consider adding a bit more onto their menu such as desserts, meat plates, olives, etc. read more
