We were super excited to try vineyards in the Monterey/Carmel area because so many people had told us it's a hidden gem, especially compared to how much attention Napa gets. We went in with pretty high hopes but ended up feeling underwhelmed by the offerings. A lot of the wines tasted watered down, mild, and somewhat similar to one another. This was true for both the reds and the whites. The charcuterie and cheese pairing was also disappointing, especially when compared to Napa, where tastings often feature thoughtfully curated cheeses and meats paired with each wine. That said, the staff were very kind and informative. They explained each wine carefully and in an engaging way, which definitely helped make the experience enjoyable overall. Ultimately, though, the wines themselves were underwhelming and none of them really WOW'd us. They also felt a bit overpriced per bottle (~75$) especially considering you can easily find excellent wines at Napa vineyards for a better value. read more

Revisited the tasting room and was again delighted with the ambiance, the service and the wine quality. That said, I was shocked and disappointed to learn that the tasting room will be closing in March and apparently the Talbot wine production facility on River Road has already been shuttered. All of this is due to the acquisition of the brand by Gallo wines, coupled with a down turn in the wine industry. As a consumer, this really pisses me off. Yet another example of a larger business buying and closing down the competition, thereby taking away another option for the consumer as well as eliminating the experience and enjoyment of a quality wine. Warm friendly service in an unpretentious relaxed setting to sip wine. The legacy tasting was spot on with the cheese pairing. The lady serving us was super knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions we had. She even gave us extra tastings of other wines. I didn't feel rushed throughout the experience! While I enjoyed their Pinot noir and Chardonnay offerings, I didn't feel like their bottle pricing was well justified. The atmosphere is elegant and modern set away from the downtown hustle and bustle of Carmel by the sea with views and breezes from the ocean 3.) the team members in the tasting room by far are the most friendly and welcoming individuals - they make you feel at home and a part of their family every time you visit- not to mention they remember your name- which is beyond my ability to fathom how this is possible. They are attentive and are always making sure your glass is filled during your tasting. You never feel rushed. There is no pretense or snobbery. And while you will get a detailed explanation of the wine, the notes, the nose (if you desire) the team there is proud of their products and it feels like they just want to share with you something they all love as well. 4.) their new offerings of cheese pairings from the local cheese shop is a delight 5.) their events at the winery or at the local tasting room are always amazing and fun - food pairings and wine selections - they do not hold back and they are always so generous and delicious 6.) they are dog friendly - absolutely welcoming to all dogs in their tasting room 7.) while I love my own children dearly - I am glad to have a reason to escape with friends/family/spouse (or my other mom friends) to a kid free zone as a special treat, As it forces me to find time for myself- away from my kids for A short time enjoying fellowship, conversation, and wonderfully crafted local wines. If you only have time to visit one tasting room- this is the one you MUST visit. The tasting room itself is gorgeous, super clean and bright, with elegant table settings. The wines were off the charts. I'm always skeptical when a winery claims to produce Burgundian wines , but Talbott really does and does well! Their Diamond T wines were some of our favorites, and the Fidelity will knock your socks off. To wrap it all in a bow, the service is unparalleled. Marcus was our host, he was personable and incredibly knowledgable. He made us feel so welcome and taught us so much about the wines and the area. We will definitely be back! read more

One of the nicest wine tastings ever. Grace was welcoming, cheerful and knowledgable. This tasting room features wines from Talbott that are only available in the tasting room. Each was very good. We purchased two bottles of the Block 50 South 2021 Chardonnay, which was nicely balanced with bright fruit and just a kiss of oak. We also bought two of the Fidelity 2021 Pinot, which stands out as one of the best pinots we have ever had from SLH. Gallo has made some minor changes to Talbott that make good business sense and enhance the experience. And the 4-pack wine tote that the wine was delivered to us in will be one that we keep and reuse. Very classy. read more

If I could give more stars I would, this is a must-stop destination for Pinots and Chardonnay. For the novice drinker it's a fantastic place to learn, and for the enthusiast, the wines are varied and expressive enough in the California style to offer contemplation in the various profiles. We opted for the outdoor seating and the premium flight with a charcuterie board. Look for Alec! He was our wine guide for the afternoon and was incredible. Very knowledgeable about the valley and production of everything we tried. His profile notes were spot-on for me. The experience never felt rushed and I was able to revisit any of the wines on the list before I made some selections to take home. It was a beautiful day in December, lots of sunshine in the low-60s for our outdoor tasting. Everything on the list was great and we ended up purchasing a couple of bottles to take home. The Talbott Vineyards tasting room recently moved into a larger space at 25 Pilot Road, which, along with fine wine, features Robb Talbott's impressive collection of vintage motorcycles and vintage pedal cars. It was busy (opening day) but thanks to an efficient staff and generous inside and outside seating, they can easily handle a crowd. I felt for the staff who were all trying to do their job well while most of us were busy snapping photos and gawking at the vintage eye candy instead of focusing on the merits of the wines. Fun aside, Talbott offers a sophisticated tasting as evidenced by the change of wine glass between white and red pours, and the breadsticks to cleanse your palate. Plus, whether Chardonnay or Pinot Noir, the Sleepy Hollow Vineyard wines never disappoint, and (in my option) continue to be "benchmark wines". read more

We came into Talbott's tasting room on a Tuesday afternoon and Rosemarie took are of us. We sampled their flight of wines which included 3 Chardonnays and 2 Pinot Noirs for $20. The wines were all fabulous and Rosemarie answered all our questions about the soil and flavor profiles. She also gave us loads of information about cool places to visit in the area since she was born and raised in Carmel Valley. Another cool thing we learned is that the Talbott family owns Robert Talbott menswear. The original owners wife, Audrey, created Talbott ties which are sold at Nordstrom's for big bucks $$$. The wines were amazing! I recommend the the premium flight. All of the whites and reds have a pleasant taste. Nothing too crazy/disgusting. The Audrey Chardonnay and Sarah Case Pinot Noir taste phenomenal. This flight also comes with complimentary almonds, bread and their house made olive oil. I forgot the employee's name, but she took the time to explain the history and origin of each wine we tasted. Marcus told us about the differences in each "block" and what to taste for. He also did a great job explaining the value of the wine club and my friend decided to join. It was news to me, but good news, when I learned that Carmel Valley has a sweet, compact winery tasting room scene going on. One can't spend the entire weekend ogling the coastal views so wine tasting here makes for a great diversion. Even better is the fact that you can park and walk between numerous tasting rooms, Talbott included, then hang around until you've recovered adequately to head back out of wine central. Talbot Vineyards Tasting Room was highly recommended by my hotel concierge and he knew what he was pushing. On a weekday visit I was the only guest in this spacious, immaculate, whimsically outfitted tasting room, allowing me to commandeer the full attention of their lovely, intelligent, wine-pourer. Talbott was purchased last year by Gallo, the world's largest wine company. It's an industry shift in which wine giants are actively moving into the premium market of fine wines. Clearly, Gallo has done their research; this is where the industry is going and growing. Because I went to several tasting rooms on the same day of my visit to Talbott the fact that I'd purchased a bottle of my favorite taste was smart. Uncorking the Talbott Logan 2014 Pinot Noir (Sleepy Hollow Vineyard, $27) at home reminded me of how much I'd liked this wine on-site. Enough, in fact, to inspire purchase of a case now that I was back at home. This explained how I learned this: wine purchased at tasting rooms can be purchased elsewhere, often far cheaper. That fact makes little sense to me but there you have it. On-line I found the same wine for which I'd paid $27 running a mere $17. Factor in shipping costs and it still ran only $22/bottle. These price differences matter when you're investing in a case. So stop by Talbott and enjoy the wine. Bring home a bottle to remind yourself of its goodness. Then go online and search for the best full-case deal you can find. * Your hotel concierge may be able to offer vouchers for free wine tasting in Carmel Valley. The Hyatt Carmel Highlands offered such a perk which is why I can't tell you the tasting fee. * On a weekday the tasting rooms in this area were almost empty, a welcome respite from the hordes of wine tasters in Napa Valley wineries. read more

Rob Talbott's passion for motorcycles and pedal cars is on prominent display throughout the newly expanded tasting room. There is indoor and outdoor picnic tables to enjoy the ample sun and the lovely gardens. Amid the gardens you will find the bocci ball court to challenge your friends to. The Sleepy Hallow Pinot Noir is one of my favorite red wines. I was introduced to this Talbott varietal at a banquet about a year ago and I just became quite enamored with this alluring wine. This wine was very popular at the banquet with my whole table raving about it throughout dinner. It's so smooth, fragrant and bright. The Kali Hart and the Logan Pinot Noirs are always a great choice too and well-priced in the $20-something price range. True epicures could appreciate the depth and quality of these wines (without a sizable price tag). Need an accompaniment? Keep hunger in check and visit the stocked deli case full of packaged cheese, meats, pellegrinos and snacks items. I would love to see some cheeseboards available for purchase but at least you can grab some light snacks to go with your wine. There are many specialty items available like gourmet spreads, crackers and kitchen items to bring home or out on a picnic. The new location is great with a large and welcoming indoor-outdoor space. The wines are radiant and refreshing; premium wines that don't come at a premium price. I haven't met a red wine yet that has been able to unseat my Sleepy Hollow Pinot. read more

This was definitely one of the nicer tasting rooms in Carmel valley. The ambience was a touch elegant, and the wall near to the bar was adorned with many of the honors and accolades their wine has received; of note was their inclusion on the tasting menu at Per Se as well as a handful of dinners at the White House. I opted for the premium tasting menu which was surprisingly less expensive than the regular tasting, but including less wines in their flight (only 4). This was preferable really though since one could concentrate more on the individual flavors this way. A very nice selection of whites. Definitely recommend. read more

There's practically a line to get in here every time I come, but I think it's all because of the great reds here. It's $8.50 to taste 4 Chardonnays and 4 Pinot Noirs, which is fairly reasonable. The whites were pretty standard but the reds, oh the reds. I loved the 2005 Logan Pinot Noir, and the 2007 Kali Heart. I took home a few bottles of the Logan, but I don't think the tasting fee is applied to a bottle purchase here. The only odd thing about this place was that it was filled with children! read more

Sorry to say I did not enjoy my visit here. First I was expecting to see all the vintage motorcycles on display. Little did I know Talbott was purchased by Gallo near the end of 2015 so all the motorcycles were moved to a museum down the road. The associates were friendly and accommodating, but I didn't feel as if they provided a lot of background on the wines and winery. The acquisition by Gallo was not even mentioned until I asked what happened to all the motorcycles on display. I will say that the associate was kind enough not to charge us for two tastings as I did not enjoy the wines and did not finish the tasting. The tasting room is large and offers plenty of seating inside and out. You are welcome to bring your own food to enjoy outside on the patio. I also believe the patio is dog friendly. They also offer a Diamond T Room Private Tasting Experience which is offered for up to 6 guests in their private Diamond T Room. They offer chardonnays and pinot noirs at three levels from a price point of $20-$30 a bottle up to $75 a bottle. Both the chardonnay and pinot noir were included in the tasting, but I don't recall which particular labels. While these wines were not for me, I encourage you to visit and make your own decision as plenty of people seem to really like the wines. read more

My boyfriend and I had a great experience here. We sat outside and tasted some excellent Chardonnay's and Pinot Noirs. Our server was very knowledgeable of the wines and kept our tastings coming. We took some photos on the property and realized later I had left my sunglasses somewhere or they had fallen out of my bag on their property. By the time I realized, they had closed and we had to leave our Airbnb to head back to LA. We called to see if they had found them and Lexi was so great she offered to ship them to us with no charge! I received my sunglasses a couple days later and they were packaged very securely! I just thought she was so sweet to do this and it just made our experience that much better!! read more

I have been here a few times and consider their wines to be one of my favorites, I love their Pinots and Chardonnays. Since wine is more subjective my review is based on the wine tasting experience. Pros: Every time I come here the staff is super friendly, accommodating, and helpful. Tasting room has outdoor patio area where you can picnic. Love all of their wines. Nice big, comfy wine tasting room with tables. Cons: Not a con but they no longer have the antique motorcycles. They moved them down the street to a museum. Overall: Great place to go wine tasting without the snobbiness you sometimes get when you go wine tasting. For $20 you get to taste 3 Chardonnays and 3 Pinots.
