A nice swimming hole that is not too difficult to reach. It is inside the Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. You will have to pay $10.00 to get into the park. The swimming hole is located about 0.6 miles from Lot #3. Park and follow the paved path until you reach a plank bridge. Cross the bridge and go through the campground until you reach the trail. Keep to the right. You will need to cross the river only once if you follow the trail on the right. The water is great year round. The swimming hole can get crowded so get there early! If you are a Big Sur lover and love Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, then you will love this little trail. It's great! It doesn't take that long to get here and the trail/hike is not bad at all. Very easy, kids do it. The only thing is you will have to climb over some big boulders and tread through water.. COLD water but that's about it. The closer you get to the swimming holes, the colder it gets. Hubby and I tried to do this hike in March but we had our dog, climbing over rocks where you need two hands was a big tricky so we gave up. We returned at the end of April and made it all the way with no problems. It was a gorgeous hot day. We got there around noon and we were the 2nd ones there.. jumped off some rocks, even snorkeled for a few minutes (as long as we could being that the water was so cold), there is lots of baby silver head bass (or something like that), got some good pics and good videos, then the people started showing up about an hour or so after got there.. a few groups of people that don't stay very long, they jump off rocks, drink a few beers then leave. There was a beer can at the shore which immediately irritated me because I am a huge nature lover. A place this beautiful should NOT be trashed in such ways. Anyway, the water is very very cold but feels absolutely great once you jump in. One of the holes with the TWO rocks, was a bit shallow, maybe 6 feet or so, so I jumped from the lower rock and hit the ground. I swam/snorkeled through the 2nd area where it's much deeper and colder, jumped off that rock with no problem and never hit the bottom. I'd say it was 12 feet deep or so. Lots of fish and it was great. I would definitely return... Oh and P.S. The review by Timothy J. is the way I was able to find it. Perfect directions.

Don't ever come here. It's very dangerous to reach and a man lost his life in the creek by the large rock.

Love strolling through Canyon View Park but only on weekdays…read more Parking here is nonexistent. You have to parallel park in specific areas and specific side of the street only. It's in the middle of a residential neighborhood and it will be hard to park during the weekends. It's an otherwise peaceful area to walk around in unless you have the unfortunate encounters with unleashed dogs, shrieking children due to the two playgrounds, or inconsiderate people talking extremely loudly on their smartphones. Sometimes you will encounter all 3 and by then, the walk with my dogs are ruined. My one dog is extremely shy and timid so I frequently have to carry her back to the car with another pulling beagle in tow. No fun at all. The poop bag stations are inconsistently filled and the park has dog droppings hidden in any areas of the grass or sidewalk. So if your dogs tend to eat stuff off the ground, WATCH OUT! Mine tried to roll in it and I so didn't appreciate it. The park also leads to several different trails that allows dogs for some of the paths. It will be an extremely steep hill to climb up and down if you access it from the Canyon View Park side. Not for the faint of heart and be aware it has little to no shade. Bring water, and don't attempt to climb if you have sandals on. It will get your feet dusty and good pair of NB or Hokas would really help. In all, I think it's a decent park to go to, but not my first choice due to noise, dog droppings, and ease of access. Avoid on weekends unless you like crowds.

On a clear day, you can see Catalina Island and miles of coastline. The park itself is pretty clean and well-kept, with tennis courts, restrooms, picnic tables, and trails that branch right off the viewpoint. It's great whether you want to chill and enjoy the view or get in a real hike. What to know: Parking can be tight though, especially around sunset. There's street parking nearby if the lot is full. There are other access points to get into the park, too. Not much shade, so bring water and sunscreen if you're hiking. The trails down into Aliso Canyon are beautiful but pretty steep coming back up -- be ready for a workout. I typically do Mathis Canyon and Car Wreck loop, which is a workout. You do see a wrecked car situated at the bottom of Car Wreck trail. This is one of those local gems that's perfect for showing off SoCal scenery to visitors or just getting some fresh air and perspective. I always bring my friends from out of town to this spot as an introduction to what's beautiful in Orange County. Definitely a five-star view and an easy must-do if you're in Laguna.

It has changed over the years, but still remains a gem! There used to be an open grassy field, but now there is a basketball court, pickleball courts, and a playground. There is still the amazing view from here and some short hikes that leave from here. The parking lot is plenty big and there is always street parking right outside the park if needed. It is well worth the drive up the hill!

It's best to use the OC Park pass if you have one or just park at the nearby shopping center. Another gripe I have is the foul stench of the lake / reservoir. Not long ago, hundreds of dead fishes floated about and it was left like that for days. It's near the water reclamation facilities and even on sunnier clearer days, it just seems not worth walking nearby with dogs. So as much as I like the convenient location and the recreational facilities perfect for those with kids, it's just not for dog owners like me.
