Love this place. We went on a Friday later afternoon. We did a Flight then each got another beer and a smash burger. Really good! Love their beers. We took home small growler of Cereal Killer. They had live music and lots of outdoor seating. Staff friendly and helpful

Hard to believe this place has so few reviews. Quite simply, it's a picturesque, micro brewery in cape Breton, just south of Baddeck. Plenty of beers on tap, merch, cans, and growlers for sale, and three places to get a pour. Combined with kids games, plenty of seating, and a great view of the lake, not to mention the great selection of beer, makes this place a must see! Just FYI though, the sign along route 105 comes up quick and is right at the turn, not before, so be on the lookout. It's very easy to blow right past.

love the new food truck with Rose's Smash Burgers and Trickdough donuts!! The store and outdoor taps make this an afternoon filled with lifelong memories !!

Big Spruce and Herring Choker Deli lobster sandwich from just down the road - amazing combo!

We tried a couple of Big Spruce beers at Halifax's Stillwell, and loved both of them. A visit to the brewery in Nyanza was well worth it. Eight beers on tap allowed us to sample everything with two sample trays for $16. For our tastes, all of their organic beers are excellent - it's impossible to pick any real favourites! These guys may be consistently making the best organic beer in Canada! The owners are welcoming, too, and they're more than anxious to talk about their organic farm where they grow their own hops. A great little enclosed tasting patio allows you to sit and relax with your brews. And if you want a bite, be sure to stop at Herring Choker Deli just down the road for one of their amazing sandwiches to bring along to Big Spruce. The lobster on oat bread was killer, and my partner also loved her roast beef on rye. Deadly sandwiches with deadly beer make for very good times! Perhaps a jar of Big Spruce's very own dilly beans to go with that sammy? If you like craft beer, get here!

Must try brewery when you are in cape breton. Lots of excellent brews to try. Staff are all very friendly and fun to chat with. They grow the hops on premises and they were cutting them off the vines when we were there. Make sure to check out their merch and take some beer to go. Awesome place and one of the best breweries I tried in NS.

Hidden gem. Great beer, great outdoor seating (with croquet and cornhole), and delicious food truck food.

On the upside, we were there for a good stretch of happy hour! The space is cozy, with a pub-like feel from the bar counter you can sit at, as well as a stunning main bar with lovingly detailed, darkly-stained wood. Dark wainscoting rings the room, but the charm of its previous tenants fades away from there, with a generic tile floor and basic acoustic tile ceiling. We indulged in both the liquid and solid offerings on the happy hour menu, with the salt cod fritters ($9) a couple bucks under the regular menu price. Being in town to try things out and not just go for the cheapest items, we ordered from the whole menu, tacking on the beet salad and burrata toast. We decided we'd re-assess our appetites after those three apps. The beet salad ($10) was a colourful display of Nova Scotia's late harvest season, with beautiful, thin slices of purple, pink and golden beets. The kaleidoscope of root vegetables was topped with dots of whipped ricotta, blue cheese, popcorn and pea shoots. Delicate and lightly tart, with contrasting textures of the salty and smooth whipped ricotta and the airy crunch of the popcorn added dimensionality to the dish. Also, it's impossible to go wrong with pea shoots in my books! As my wife isn't a big seafood fan, I had most of the salt cod fritters to myself, and I wasn't complaining. An herby, crisp exterior encased a pleasantly doughy and lightly fishy interior, which was amped up by the fantastic sun-dried tomato and chili oil. The burrata toast ($14) didn't have a whole, massive blob of Italian cheesy goodness, but I should have guessed that would be the case given the price. A guy can dream, right? Crisp buttery focaccia held up well to its caprese-like toppings - roasted tomatoes, pesto and, of course, a slathering of creamy burrata. Bee pollen was noted on the menu and visible on the toast, but didn't register amongst the other flavours. After three very good starters, we decided that we had room for one main between the two of us, and landed on the ricotta gnocchi ($27). I was pleasantly surprised when the plate was put before us, and I saw that the fluffy bundles of carbs and cheese were pan fried, lending a light crispness and more flavour. Most gnocchi dishes aren't too meaty, but Townhouse had a decent portion of bresaola (dry-cured beef) and guanciale (cured pork cheek), letting the thinly-sliced, but big flavours, of the Italian cured meats punch above their weight. Pesto and pea shoots reappeared to bring some vegetal balance to the dish, and a salty hit of Pecorino-Romano rounded things out nicely. Not to be outdone by the savoury parts of the menu, Townhouse's desserts are far from an afterthought. The sticky toffee ($13) was wildly decadent, with the lightly spiced sponge cake begging to sop up the heavenly caramel cream sauce and French vanilla ice cream. Although they could stand to invest in their interior design, Townhouse's kitchen speaks for itself and the well-deserved accolades it has received. A definite 'must' when in Antigonish!

We thought it'll be an A-pk bar food but we were pleasantly surprised with the quality and the flavors in these dishes! We started with a creative scallops croquettes on a Fuccacia bread, so rich in amazing flavors! The wedge salad was fresh and had a good quality blue cheese on with excellent pieces of bacon. The chicken Karrage with lettuce wraps and couscous salmon were both devine! Had a great chat with the owner and she ensured we ´re enjoying our food and ensured that they do their best to get local products. The Ambiance was great with candles everywhere and service was good too especially the place was completely fully booked. Highly recommend!

I truly wish I had something good to say here so I'll start by saying there is a lot of parking…read more I was really looking forward to coming here since moving to the province and I think I may have over-hyped it for myself. For a distillery with so many awards, I was quite surprised that nothing here appealed to me. I love vodka and gin and I personally couldn't figure out the quality here. We opted for tasting flights which come with a complimentary cocktail. The price is a little steep at $15 a paddle. The shot glasses as tacky plastic cups on a sad little board. You get a ¼ oz shot per cup and the complimentary drink is basically virgin. The mojito that came with the board came with one little leaf of mint and a whole lotta water. I was completely disappointed and didn't expect to not even be able to drink any of the samples completely. The other downside of this place is the set up of the outdoor sitting area. It wasn't well thought through. You have to exit the rear of the distillery and go around to the front of the building on slanted gravel to the 'patio'. Not one umbrella can be found at the picnic benches. The gravel is large and loose so it's a hazard to carry your drinks so far - even if you're sober! The staff seemed to want to be helpful but admitted they were short-staffed and she was the only one working on the long-weekend Sunday so she seemed exhausted. We asked a few questions but she seemed rushed with the line of people behind us. We asked about their beer on tap (from Half Cocked Brewing) and where the brewery was and she told us it was 10 minutes down the road. We asked if they're open and she said they're open every day. The brewery is about 30 minutes down the road and when we showed up, it was closed. No hours were posted anywhere. We were a little annoyed since we didn't have service and couldn't find it on a map. Lastly, there are NO SIGNS for this place at all. The only sign is one that faces the road so you notice it when you've already driven past the place. There are no signs on any of the buildings so unless you know exactly where you're going, you're sure to pass it. There is a food truck on site, but we didn't even bother with that. We left our samples and drink after chatting with a few other patrons who also couldn't believe that the alcohol was terrible. I don't often give poor reviews, but I honestly can't figure out how this place is still open. The taproom is small but organized with a lot of product. The location overlooking the ocean is really the only plus here so I'd say skip this place because it's not for someone who enjoys quality vodka and gin.

Good gins and vodkas. Very flavorful gin & tonics. We tried the Rhbarb G&T, Blueberry, & Haskap…read more.. The gals behind the bar lacked any knowledge about the site, location, ingredients used to make the local flavors. But because of the taste, we ended up buying a couple of bottles. It would have been nice to have someone more knowledgable sharing about the history about gins and vodkas we bought. The charm in visiting distilleries is in the story of how the product is made.
