3/5/21 The different looks of Catwoman.
    John F.

3/5/21 When I start collecting D.C Comics (mind you), I wasn't as much into batman as I was Catwoman. Maybe it was my teenage hormones raging or the beautiful purple Catwoman suit with whip, but I had fallen hook line and sinker for her very own comics. Especially since this purple cat suit had no tail. Now believe it or not, I did not get my hands on the first copy first. It wasn't until the third copy came out that I went to go buy it. Unfortunately, the fourth edition came out by that time and the comic store did not have the other three copies. When I came home from The Gow School during my Winter Break, I went to Big Planet Comics to aquire the missing three comics. Big Planet Comics not only had the three missing books, but also plastic protective cases for them. Up until that point, I never cared or understood why people freaked out about their comics being opened and read. I got it all the moment I was interested in collecting Catwoman comics. I ordered my comics from D.C Comics, but not all the comics books came to me at school in pristine order. Enter Big Planet Comics once again. The comics that were not satisfactory were put to the side and the magazines I wanted were given plastic protective cases. I kept this up until I got 100 something Catwoman Comics. I must admit I was falling out of my comic book faze. Nevertheless, Big Planet Comics help keep everyone of my comic books safe, until they were thrown out be a storage company...yeah! Think BATS ^#IT CRAZY. "Que Sera Sera" she sings. I tell you what I believe... , "Oh, I believe in yesterday."

So, when you feel the need to feed your inner superhero head on over to Fantom Comics. A well organized oasis for comic books, mysteries, children's books, toys, and Japanese anime characters. I love the way the space is designed so you can sit and look at the books, before you buy them. I thought prices were reasonable and the quality of the comic books was great! Like brand new first editions, they were spotless. Service was excellent. The gentleman at the counter was so helpful and friendly. If your inner superhero is calling then head on over to Fantom Comics.

And I do appreciate that they have a fairly nice kids section. But their selection of books runs sparse and they have barely any other products. It's like they dabble in collectible card games without having anything substantial. PRODUCT: Really very little. Despite a huge sign proclaiming they sell Magic the Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and Pokemon, they did not have anything substantial to offer and from the look of their old product, they don't carry much at all. In terms of comics, it's not much at all. They have far more graphic novels. I'm not sure if this place wants to be a book store more than a comic book store. SERVICE: Okay. Nothing spectacular. Didn't feel like I was valued or helped much. The stairway leading up to it was filthy. COST: Average. Not inflated but not inexpensive either. No real bargains.

Front and back with free to play arcade games means you can make a bit of time of it, hit the nearby brunch then wander down either memory or fandom lanes. A good showing here and well curated that shows they get it, without seeming like they're "too" interested in the odd hyper price hike cash grab in the space in some of the fandom frenzy areas. Pleasant surprise for a very simple expectation on the outside.

There's everything from comic books and figures to games from Marvel, DC, Star Wars, Warhammer, and anything else you can think of. Some comic books are cheaper than on Amazon. I bought some on Amazon as gifts, only to realize after that, this place has them cheaper! I was just browsing and didn't have any questions or requests from the staff, but based on interactions with others, they know their stuff. This is not a surface-level, small store where they display a tiny collection. They have almost everything. I think that's the most important thing you need to know about this place. I did notice the retro consoles and games like the SNES are priced quite steeply here. They are rare to come by in Northern Virginia, so I'd expect that.

The shop was well organized and had so much more than just comics -- from building models to artwork by local artists. It also feels like a real community space, hosting events and meetups on different nights, which makes it even more special. My child absolutely fell in love with this place, and honestly, so did I. We'll definitely be back! Staff was nice and helpful and very well organized!

The service was great and the selection was well above average. The store is laid out in a very easy to manage way, and the selection of products is pretty terrific. You would be hard pressed to find a more complete comic and gaming store in the area. SELECTION: like I said before they have a great selection of stuff. It is divided into two sections so it's easy to find what you need. Comic books are very well laid out with a easy to find rack of new comics as well as bins of old comics. I really appreciated the family friendly area too. for the card section, they have both training cards and collectible card games. They carry things like Pokémon, Magic the Gathering , Lorcana, and Star Wars unlimited. But they have much more than just that. SERVICE: service was great! Overall, they are very helpful and it is well staffed. It was a little disorganized near the register, but can't really complain because of the great selection and the friendly attitude. COST: the value for what you get is right on the Mark. It is a place with reasonable prices and they stick relatively close to MSRP. The exceptions being what you would find at any other card shop. Right now Pokémon cards are through the roof, but at least here they are reasonable.

While shopping, I had to go to the bathroom but wanted to keep browsing so looked for a bathroom. I saw a couple of people (white people) come out of the restroom, even though the door said "Employees Only." I asked the woman at the register if there was a restroom available, and she told me, "No, our bathroom is not public but you can go to California Tortilla and use theirs." I returned to my fiancé, who was waiting near the bathroom, and overheard another employee tell a different customer, "We don't normally let people use the bathroom because there are boxes in there, but we can make an exception (white customers) I mentioned that I had just been told the restroom was not public, and the employee responded, "Yeah, but we can make an exception for her, not you," in what felt like a very dismissive and condescending tone. The interaction left me feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. Consistency and respectful communication with customers of all skin tones is important, and unfortunately that was not my experience here. Definitely recommend buying on stores like Amazon and not supporting this behavior.
