Maybe it was my teenage hormones raging or the beautiful purple Catwoman suit with whip, but I had fallen hook line and sinker for her very own comics. Especially since this purple cat suit had no tail. Now believe it or not, I did not get my hands on the first copy first. It wasn't until the third copy came out that I went to go buy it. Unfortunately, the fourth edition came out by that time and the comic store did not have the other three copies. When I came home from The Gow School during my Winter Break, I went to Big Planet Comics to aquire the missing three comics. Big Planet Comics not only had the three missing books, but also plastic protective cases for them. Up until that point, I never cared or understood why people freaked out about their comics being opened and read. I got it all the moment I was interested in collecting Catwoman comics. I ordered my comics from D.C Comics, but not all the comics books came to me at school in pristine order. Enter Big Planet Comics once again. The comics that were not satisfactory were put to the side and the magazines I wanted were given plastic protective cases. I kept this up until I got 100 something Catwoman Comics. I must admit I was falling out of my comic book faze. Nevertheless, Big Planet Comics help keep everyone of my comic books safe, until they were thrown out be a storage company...yeah! It's a roomy store, compared to a lot of comic shops, with a lot of recent series, if not the most…read morerecent issues of those series. Their margins must be tight, as they open at 10 AM on Wednesday, and some titles are sold out by 11:30. So, they appear to be under ordering, so as not to have to potentially sit on stock. Not too long ago, they changed their policy where they wouldn't be ordering variant covers unless you specifically pre-ordered them. Sure, that's their prerogative, but many variants are open-order, not requiring any minimums on the part of the retailer, so it just seems...odd. The service...This is my biggest gripe. Often, I've gone into the store to find the cashier talking to a friend/acquaintance. A customer might want assistance, and the cashier is visibly annoyed that he has to stop his conversation to provide customer service. Then, once the customer checked out and left, the cashier would turn to his friend and say something like "That's the guy I was telling you about", with a laugh. So, they seem to joke about their customers - the people keeping them in business - and it just feels unprofessional. I've worked retail, so I get it, but those aren't conversations to gold loudly, as other customers are in the store. I mean, what are they saying about ME when I leave? This has happened more than once, while some of the other loud topics of discussion aren't always appropriate for "polite company". The most friendly employee, sadly, passed away recently, so we're left with the ones talking behind our backs.

Prodigal Comics is in place of Alliance Comics. (Apparently one of the employees of the old store…read morepurchased it?). Anyhow, I was clueless till I dropped by, it's been a few months or so. There's a bit more space on the main floor, though maybe it's my own imagination. There's nothing downstairs, it used to be for all the 50% off goods but it sounds like they're going to rent that out for players to run tabletop games and such. (There is a space in front facing the street displaying 50% off books, of course just those with the sticker.) The guy running the place seems nice, it's still bright and vibey, and it's worth going to. Oh, don't remember if it was there before but there's definitely an old-school arcade game in the corner to play. (X-Men? Wolverine? Avengers? I forget.) Wish I had more time to look around but I was on the clock, but I managed to get some things. This is more for newer comics and action figures, etc., which is fine. They have plenty of comic compilation softcovers as well. Admittedly I'm more a casual comic book person but I enjoyed going there and it's really close to Safeway, restaurants, and the like.

Service was fine although I didn't really talk to many people while there (was more preoccupied with finding the books and checking them out). I'd say this place has great value as the books i got (3) were charged a total of just under $5. I can see why the staff put up flyers stating to be mindful with how many books the customers get as they're priced pretty low, allowing you to collect a decent amount. Want three aisles of kids books like Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys? Go here. Need every book C.S. Lewis wrote? Stop by Second Story Books. After visiting nearby ZavaZone with our seven-year-old daughter, we stopped into Second Story for a few minutes, which easily turned into an hour. Every book is 50% off. We left with 15 books for just under $21. The books are well organized and maps help navigate visitors to each section, but know that the warehouse's narrow book aisles can get cramped. It adds to the appeal! There are even harder-to-find rooms with other items like posters for sale. They also sell CDs and DVDs. Staff are helpful. I lost my wallet and within an hour a staff member messaged me on Facebook letting me know they found it and it was safe at the checkout desk. If you have used books, Second Story Books buys them from people.

Stopped in to check out Big Planet Comics on 2026 Free Comic Book Day. Never been to this comic…read morebook store before. Lots of customers - which is a good sign. As others have noted - this is a pretty small store. It might be the smallest comic book store I've seen in the area. But - small is not necessarily a negative. They have a good selection of comics. They also have a small selection of D&D books and dice. After perusing the store - I did not find anything I wanted, but I'll have to drag a couple of my nerdy comic book friends over to check the place out and get their take on the place. #BigPlanetComics

And I do appreciate that they have a fairly nice kids section. But their selection of books runs sparse and they have barely any other products. It's like they dabble in collectible card games without having anything substantial. PRODUCT: Really very little. Despite a huge sign proclaiming they sell Magic the Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and Pokemon, they did not have anything substantial to offer and from the look of their old product, they don't carry much at all. Didn't feel like I was valued or helped much. The stairway leading up to it was filthy. COST: Average. Not inflated but not inexpensive either. No real bargains.
