The entire concept of this store is pretty interesting. I'd imagine Vaste Riviere has low and high days like most businesses. So, by offering these pre-made items, it allows them to have a broader menu (and probably avoid wasting food). Most of the items are available in the deli case for takeaway. You can heat it up easily or have them do it. Also, in their freezer cases, they have an assortment of local food items. For instance, we got a NC-made Kimchi and it was great. They also have items (i.e. gluten free) that you probably couldn't find nearby. Overall, I'd highly recommend Vaste Riviere if you are spending some time in the area. Great option for a takeaway meal in your cabin or room. Also, with the COVID-19 situation right now, they seem to have it under control and are taking protective measures. Support them!!

I actually stopped in here several times during my week-long stay in town. Primarily because Vaste Riviere is one of two food spots open every day of the week, and the only one of those two with available outdoor seating. My first visit resulted in the purchase of some dip-type thing to bring back to my Airbnb, a six-pack of beer, and a crab cake. The crab cake was good but I forgot to get any utensils, and whoops....the cleaning crew for my Airbnb arrived AFTER I did, where I intended to eat my meal. So I sat in my car and ate my food with what I could find to use as a sort of spoon... I returned on another day because I wanted a cold beverage after an unexpectedly long hike, and I wanted to drink it outside...so this place was my only option. I also got some pimento cheese dip to bring back to the house with me. Which was...ok. Not the greatest, but y'all...the closest true grocery store appears to be, like, a half hour away. The staff was always lovely and friendly. I would have come back here even more times, if their goods were a little more in my price range or...you know, sometimes after a hike all you want is a burger, not a crab cake. But I like this place, was surprised at its existence, and would certainly recommend it to other folks.

This was one of very few small businesses that had yet to reopen when we visited. So we wanted to stop in and show our support by buying some gifts and a cup of tea. Still in the process of reestablishing, their new space is coming along nicely. Lots of pretty jewelery, trinkets, crystals, various gifts and even a small selection of plants. It appears that multiple talented artisans sell their work here. I've wanted a Rose of Jericho for a long time, but had resisted buying one so far. There are reports that much of what is available on the market has been poached from wildlife. But when one of the owners noticed my interest in them, he told me how when they were finally allowed to come back after the hurricane, they opened the door to their flooded shop to see all the Rose Of Jerichos alive and floating in the water. "I knew right then that we were going to be ok." I was sold and will cherish mine, with this sentiment attached. I also bought myself a new little Pilea for my Fairy Garden, some beautiful earrings, and a handful of gifts for my loved ones. I snagged a hot tea as I paid for purchases and then used their clean restroom before we headed out into the wilderness for the day. This seems to be another favorite amongst the Appalachian Trail pack, and I can see why. Im looking forward to coming back later in the season and seeing their progress in rebuilding.

You order and can sit at one of the tables inside or outside. The owner, Roberto, was so nice. He gave us a couple samples to try. The ceviche was really delicious. We also had a barbacoa plate and a fish taco plate. They make a variety of hot sauces, all from scratch and very fresh. Everything we had was delicious. They have another restaurant in Woodfin that we have yet to try. I am just glad we found this authentic Mexican place!

The menu is simpler - a limited palette. We had the fish tacos, several little tacos autenticos, and fresh guacamole. Perfect. Everything delicious and quickly served. Roberto and his helper were quiet, funny, and gracious. It's December. The sitting room is heated by wood stove - very nicely. The sauces were homemade and fresh. We went home with eight tamales to serve story with wine and appetizers before Christmas dinner. Weaverville is lucky. Do you like the cooking of Gladys or Roberto? Have fun sampling their menus and don't hurry your decision. They are great cooks of authentic Mexican street food.
