Pretty cool place, cold craft beer and a cool vibe. You can even bring your dog in if you want. Folks are pretty nice and welcoming as well.

Second time visiting the area took an opportunity to catch their Christmas Eve sing along. Really cool fun group of people. It's a dry county co keep that in mind , beer and wine only , no hard liqueur.

This review is overdue. Highly recommend for a drink especially after a long hike. They have all kinds of craft beer options as well as some non beer items. Food next door is all amazing. They have some amazing pretzels, nachos and tacos. Environment is casual. There is indoor and outdoor areas. Pet friendly. The indoor area is your basic bar environment with pub tables and bar. The outside has large picnic stye tables. Drinks are ordered at the bar and there is an outside walk up area to order your food. There is no wait staff, it is all self service.

I love this place. Like a cozy cabin with great beer, dog friendly, games, music. Mexican food available from Grey Eagle Taco. Get the carnitas quesadillas & guacamole! SOOO GOOD! Beer: a bunch but i get a Hunker Down! Yum! Outdoor space with flowers and live music often. Just can't say enough awesome dogs Bartender and singer, Paige!!!

Mixed flight... Irish red was my favorite

A good variety of beers on tap brewed locally and lots of others in cans are available. Great laid back vibe here, I could have stayed all day. The staff was great! Pet and child friendly with lots of outdoor seating.

This place is so so great. We ended up going again today because we enjoyed it so much yesterday. Such a comfortable atmosphere - the staff and the patrons are so friendly & the beer is delicious. This is a gem for Hot Springs! Bigfoot had a great time too!

Beers good. The seating inside out is comfy and adequate. We did not try out the food but can recommend the beer on a hot sticky day

Open open open. The Mad Co. Brew House is OPEN!…read more I was passing through here in October 2025 as I am making my way through all 100 of North Carolina's county courthouses. The Madison County Courthouse is temporarily closed due to the water damage but the structure is still standing. On my way back to where I parked, I spotted this place and stopped in. I bought a beer - not much in the way of support, but I am back on keto and not eating pizza no matter how awesome it smells/looks - and opted to write this review immediately. As I'm typing, another customer asked the beertender about the storm. He pointed to the piece of black tape marking high water line on the wall. It's about NINE FEET off the ground. I included a picture. The leaves up here are just about starting to change. If you're thinking of leaf peeping and heading through the North Carolina mountains, don't miss out on Mad Co. Brew House. Firstly, their Pilsner is excellent. Second, they need the support. [Review 1124 of 2025 - 4371 in North Carolina - 24677 overall]

We fell in love with the town of Marshall before Hurricane Helene, and that love hasn't…read morechanged--but the town certainly feels different now. The impact of Helene was profound, and it's hard not to feel the weight of that change. Given Marshall's long and rich history, we doubt anyone could have anticipated something so devastating. We believe this moment calls for reflection--gratitude for what we still have, and commitment to preserving the character and history of this special place for future generations. The town is slowly recovering, and we were thankful to be able to visit. Some businesses and buildings are clearly still struggling, while others appear nearly back to normal. While in town, we stopped for a bite at Mad Co. Brew House. Parking was easy and convenient on the street, and the open-air concept was inviting. Because of the heat, we opted to sit inside. Upon entering, the bar is immediately to the right--that's where you grab a menu and place your order. We picked up laminated menus, found a large table, and returned to the bar to order once we'd made our selections. After paying, we were given a vibrating coaster to alert us when our food was ready for pickup at the kitchen window. It's worth noting that tipping was prompted at the point of sale. We don't mind tipping--20% or more is typical for us--but it was frustrating to realize that, in this case, there was virtually no service. We placed our own orders, grabbed our own utensils, water, and napkins, and picked up our food when the pager buzzed. Additionally, multiple signs reminded customers to bus their own tables after dining. No one ever checked on us, and we struggled to find a clean table when we arrived. During our visit, we saw several employees either behind the bar or in the open concept kitchen, but none seemed to be sanitizing or tidying up, despite it not being particularly busy. We recognize that the community has endured a lot since the flooding, and our visit was, in part, a way to support local businesses. Still, basic service standards matter--and without improvement, we worry that some visitors may not return. That said, the food itself was excellent--easily a five-star experience. The setting, the charm of the location, and the overall potential of the place are solid. With a little more attention to cleanliness and service, this could be a true gem. For now, we're giving it three stars, hoping it was just an off night--and wishing the best for everyone continuing to rebuild in this resilient town.

At the time we didn't realize that Roberta Flack was born in Black Mountain and the mural on the side of the historic building was in fact Roberta! When you step inside it is cozy and comfortable but we could see there was a large outdoor space as well. I stopped in at the counter and decided to order a pint of their Hazy IPA. We wandered to the outdoor space which is two levels, we explored the upstairs area first since there was a thunderstorm we thought it would be cool to watch the rain and lightning while sipping on a cold beer. We also learned there was a food trailer at the back of the property, which looks to be a permanent resident. They offer items such as pulled pork, poutine, brisket, and more. We ended up chatting with other customers and had a really enjoyable afternoon. We enjoyed our time at Black Mountain Brewing and will absolutely be back!

The first cool thing about this brewery is that it taught me that Roberta was from NC, which I did not know. So, we decided to go and immediately it took be back to the golden era of small breweries. I loved the atmosphere here, again it took me back to when craft beer was a community, and not an industry as it is today. I had a flight with the steam beer, pale ale, West Coast IPA, and barleywine. Everything was on point and very well made. My friend had the American Lager and we also tried the Czech-style lager, which ended up being my favorite. A huge plus and thank you to our bartender who brought us delicious, in-house freshly-made pork rinds! If I lived in the area, this would be my Cheers.
