If I could give 10 stars, I would. What had happened was... I had dropped off a piece of art to be framed. It was ready on a Friday but I was running late, so I just figured I would pick it up on Monday. Monday was the day that this artwork would be presented as a gift at an event in the afternoon. Now it turns out that they are closed on Mondays WHICH IS CLEARLY PRINTED ON THE DOOR. They are open on the weekend and I, being not too bright sometimes, did not look up the hours. COMPLETELY MY FAULT. So I panicked. Then emailed at the contact info on the website begging for help. One of the owners called me within a few minutes and then he came to the store to let me get my art. Understand, this was all my fault and they had no obligation to do this. First, the staff at Big Picture Framing in Arlington, MA has been amazing. Especially Emma, who has helped me to frame a piece of art and then a couple of sports uniforms under protective glass in recent weeks. Her professionalism, honest demeanor, knowledge and ability to answer questions, and eye for detail were all extremely helpful during my visits. Both of my pieces look excellent and are hanging proudly. Second, I want to praise Big Picture Framing for keeping their store as safe for customers and staff as possible. Obviously handling artwork and objects of customers during a pandemic opens their staff and the next patrons to increased risk. Wearing masks, providing hand sanitizer, clearly marking areas to walk and stand, and having signs displayed to not touch samples is a big help. The staff also keeps the door locked and has moved to an appointment process to minimize people in the store. Even for pickup of finished items, they will meet you at the door with your items to inspect and carry away to your home. Overall, Big Picture Framing is doing a wonderful job during these times. They are there to support their customers, so I hope you will continue to support them just as I have done. read more

Joe, the "artisan" who was working that day, was wonderful. With his artistic eye, he helped me choose the mats and frame, and allowed me to consider a number of options, including the pricing. The lifetime guarantee is for real. A favorite picture fell a couple of days ago, breaking the frame. I brought it back hoping the staff could repair or, if necessary, replace it, and of course I was prepared to pay. (Truth be told, I'd forgotten where I'd had it framed originally). Arlington's Big Picture Framing ruined a one-of-kind print of mine, and took no responsibility. After two failed attempts at framing it, they gave me the print back and all of the edges were "crimped" and one section was even tom (I had brought it in with one ding on the bottom, and I pointed that out to the sales associate and she marked it on the order form as the only note). It was obvious that they had framed it incorrectly which caused the damage to the print. The owner, Bob Clayton -- without ever meeting me or seeing the print -- told me on the phone that I had brought the print in damaged, and that it was my fault! He didn't even attempt to make it right. I have never written a review on Yelp before, but felt that I had to this time. I'm in a service business as well, and the level of service from Bob Clayton was inexcusable. I will never go back to Big Picture Framing, and wanted to warn you about their poor service as well. Bob also owns several other of these franchises in the area (Belmont, Cambridge, Lexington, Natick, Newton, Needham, Peabody, Westford, etc.)... I would avoid all of them, especially with any print that is valuable to you. It's ironic... at the bottom of this page, Bob says "Our desire is to provide every customer with a joyful framing experience. We hope that all of our customers feel free to contact us and let us know how we did." However, if/when they ruin your print, don't even bother reaching out, as they don't care. read more

I have to say, I had a wonderful experience here at Big Picture Framing on Mass. Ave. in Arlington. I'd like to give a shout out to Victoria in particular who helped me masterfully create a sentimental office gift for my boyfriend. Victoria is creative and experienced in her crafty profession but what I loved most about working with her was her patience and zest. She actually took the time to sketch out the visuals and show me many of my options with color, spacing, framing etc. Not every place takes the time to do this. When the person you're working with is excited about their work, it just creates a trust. I knew I would be happy but I was truly elated when I saw the final piece. It was beautiful & pristine. Very unhappy. They don't stand behind their work. They may have broken the glass in my print that I brought in to have the print change. When looking at the frames , the sales person pulled the brown paper away from the prints to see what was going on. Never offered to re-glue it . They wanted to charge me another $43.00 to replace the glass. The other print is pulling away from the frame and is ready to fall off the wall too! Everyone I've worked with has been knowledgeable about framing and materials; their assistance made the difference between so-so and terrific. I'm always amazed at the cost of framing in general, wherever I've had it done, as I have done some of my own framing, but they do have sales and discounts. I recently had a number of prints, certificates, and an oil painting framed here, and Denis did all of them and did a fabulous job. He didn't try to up-sell me, he helped me to work within my budget, and he had a great eye for what would complement the colors in the art. He even framed a certificate for me on the same day when I mentioned I would love to have it on my office wall for an event I was hosting that evening, and re-opened the store to get it for me when I had arrived right after he locked up! I am a huge fan of Big Picture Framing in Arlington Heights! I've been going there for at least five years, and the staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. They're very patient, and I never feel rushed. They're perfect about offering up great ideas when I ask but never forcing anything on me... and they help me come up with options geared toward my budget but still things come out looking great! Like any custom framing store I've ever been to, things cost more than one might hope going in... I often find bargain art and then spend more to frame it than I did to buy it. But I feel like the prices at Big Picture are better than other local custom places, and it's nice there always seems to be some kind of sale going on. By the way, in addition to all the custom frames, mats, glass, etc., they do sell some ready-made frames, and some discounted custom-style frames that are pre-made (in standard sizes) and have very, very minor imperfections. They guarantee satisfaction, so if you ever change your mind or something breaks, or the like, you can bring the piece back and they'll change it or fix it at no charge as long as you bought it there. I've never utilized this, and but it's nice to know. On a final note, Big Picture Framing in Lexington Center has most of the same great staff and frame selection as well. read more

These guys are great! I brought in a canvas painting that sat in a garage for 60 years. I left all the decisions up to them. They helped me select a gorgeous frame and mat that was perfect for the picture. The job was done in half the time they said it would take. (1 week instead of 2.) The staff treated the canvas very carefully and even -- at no charge -- put in a "pastel tray" (I think that's the term) to keep any chipping paint off the mat and preserve the life of the painting. The staff was very enthusiastic and proud of of their work. And it wasn't until I picked up my painting that I learned their work comes with a lifetime warranty -- if I were to drop the frame and crack the glass, it would be replaced at no charge. I paid more than I expected to, but I still feel I got a good value. Outstanding work and outstanding service! read more

I have brought unusual things for Big Picture to frame, I have brought old things, new things, big things, small things. They have never, ever failed me in their creative work, their customer service, and their guarantee that if I don't like it, I can bring it back and have it redone!!! How can you go wrong? They have a wide variety of custom frames and premade ones, they don't try to oversell you, but if you need top of the line- they have it! Years ago I had several pieces of art custom framed by Big Picture and remain happy with the quality job they did. I haven't been back there until recently, when I needed a mat custom cut for a frame at the last minute. The folks at Big Picture were kind enough to do it for me that morning, rather than taking an order as they would usually do. (I don't think they can always do this, but that day they had an opening and accommodated me.) Excellent service. Skilled and knowledgeable staff who are honest about prices and are willing to work with your budget without constantly upselling. On the other hand, we had one large piece done where we went all out and layered matting and used multiple inlayed frames...still the price was fair. Upon picking it up the picture wasn't centered exactly how I liked (I mean, this is a big purchase and will hang for life) and the sales person was pleasant, said she understood what I was saying and it would be fixed the next day. The next day, FIXED and beautiful. I never felt pressured or awkward in the store. They give a great product but as always with your personal artistic vision, it sometimes takes some patience. I am sorry to have to write this review, because I have previously had great service (and beautifully framed pieces galore!) from Big Picture Framing in Arlington Heights, but I had such a rotten experience this time that I had to share. One of 3 pieces I recently brought to them was already in a vintage frame from my grandmother. I wanted to keep that frame and just have the piece newly matted. I did buy frames as well as mats for the other two pieces, and those were fine (although the final size was bigger than it was supposed to be). The vintage piece was another story. Not only did they not re-use my frame, they did not return it to me, and tried to tell me that the frame they used was mine. To top it all off, the frame was cracked. No apology, no explanation, nothing. They did offer to give me another frame job of the same quality, but since the quality that I was questioning was so bad, I didn't pursue that option! They have not only lost a formerly very happy customer, they blew it big time enough that I will be sharing this story with anyone I know who is getting art work framed. read more
