I made a visit today for an oil change and vehicle inspection. My husband usually takes care of the car maintenance so I wasn't familiar with what's needed. Joe was very friendly and professional, and made the process very simple and answered all my questions. He told me the vehicle will be done in about 90 minutes, which was accurate. I made a walk over to Costco to pick up a few things while I waited. When I returned, he showed me my cabin filter, which was filled with leaves and debris, and suggested replacing it. I came here for an oil change about 6 months ago. The experience itself was actually very positive; I didn't have an appointment but came in anyway and was told it would take 4 hours, but it ended up taking only 1.5. The person assisting me was extremely courteous and professional, and I walked out very happy. Fast forward to last weekend, and I got an alert on my dashboard that said that I needed to add a quart of oil asap. After doing so, I took it to my trusted mechanic of over 10 years who inspected it and said that the o-ring wasn't replaced at the time of oil change which resulted in a slow leak. He explained that it is standard protocol to replace it, and the ring itself costs only 10 cents. Perhaps the person who did the oil change at Big O Tires got distracted or something, since I would think that doing this over and over again would feel like second nature. But in any case, I'm very disappointed. I hope they become more mindful about not skipping this step. read more

I went to Big O Tires to change my tires yesterday,and their service was as warm and attentive as ever. Two days later, I went back because my car felt a bit unstable while driving. They checked everything and then rotated the tires for me free of charge. I also asked about changing the oil, and instead of pushing unnecessary services, they told me it wasn't time for an oil change yet and to come back later. Honestly, I wasn't going to say anything because I'm not usually a confrontational person but after what happened, I feel a responsibility to warn others. This experience was not only disappointing, but also costly and frustrating, and the way it was handled was completely unacceptable. About 2.5-3 weeks ago, my tire exploded while I was on the freeway on my way to work. I was in a rush but still wanted to get to work safely, so I looked up the nearest tire shop. The first shop I visited didn't have the right size, but they kindly referred me to Big O Tires and even called ahead to confirm the tire size was in stock. When I arrived, everything seemed to go smoothly at first. I explained my situation and said I needed to replace one tire. A staff member named Byron took my info, did an inspection, and I very clearly informed him that my driver-side door had minor damage due to a previous break-in. I explained it still worked perfectly fine as long as you shut it firmly.I was asked to sign a packet of paperwork and pay upfront before the car was returned to me. mind you this was a $216 service just for 1 single tire. Once the car was ready I made the mistake of not inspecting it immediately after since I was in a rush to get to work. But once I got to work and exited my vehicle, I immediately noticed my driver-side door was completely misaligned and crooked. It will not properly shut nor will the locking system trigger that specific door to look nor unlock. I immediately called the shop and a worker named Alex answered, I explained the problem and he apologized to me informing me to come back and they would fix it for me. I told him the soonest I would be able to return would be the next day since I wouldn't be able to get there before closing. I took time out of my day to return. But when I arrived, Byron acted confused about why I was back. After I explained, he immediately got defensive and told me that since I signed paperwork, they weren't liable and that my only option was to take them to court. The two mechanics who worked on my car flat out denied causing the damage, even though it was very obvious the damage occurred during the service. The door was literally hanging off alignment and unusable. To his credit, one mechanic named Giovany even offered to help pay for the repair himself, I politely declined and told him I was so frustrated because I had spent the last of my money to cover this emergency expense just for it to turn into a financial burden and spend more money to have it fixed, on something that could have been avoided if they were careful about how they handled the vehicle. He gave me a referral to a friend and said he'd cover the cost which clearly indicates they knew they messed up. I appreciated his honesty, but the fact remains: the shop itself refuses to take responsibility. Alex even had the audacity to say they could fix it, giving out false information. Absolutely outrageous. Now I'm left with a damaged door, a hefty repair bill, and the inconvenience of crawling through my passenger side every time I drive. All because I trusted this business to simply replace a tire. I now have to spend $500 to have my driver side door repaired all because of a careless establishment. Big O Tires took my money, damaged my property, and then refused to make it right. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Wow, Big O has gone downhill. The internet reflects their hours as 8 -6, so I get their right at 7:45 am. There were several other people waiting as well. I see the manager came out to look at the car parked next to me. and I asked him what time they open and he also said 8:00. Manager disappeared in the back and I never saw him again. Sign on will next to door reflects 8:30-6, so I called America's Tire. They opened at 8:00 & their parking lot was full. Got there at 8:10 and was done by 8:30. I went in just to have a tire patched. Was informed I needed two new rear tires, so Big O lost out on $1,000 job, just because they can't get their hours right. Staff at America's Tire was very friendly. I needed new tires, so I gave Big O in San Ramon a call. Sam answered the phone and was really helpful. I was doing my best to price out tires, and he didn't seem to mind that I kept calling back. The tires I needed were not at the shop, so he sent someone to go pick them up in Richmond, and they were able to get me in on the same day. When I got there, they took care of my car, and it was ready quickly, right when they promised. Having an employee like Sam makes a real difference in the Customer Service experience. We brought in our car like we've done for years. I walked away and came back to see a demand for $50. Talking to then they say a rotation and balance lead to the fee. The problem is we went online to make a reservation and they only offer the rotation and balance. Essentially they are a scam trying to charge. I took my truck to a mechanic twice to try and fix a squeal that was so loud for the first minute or two of driving that I could barely stand it. Shared the noise with Dustin via a recording I made of the noise. I had low expectations given how unsuccessful I had been getting it resolved with other shops. Efficient, fair prices and an overall great experience. Going to the dealer for service can be such a drag. Seems like they are booked way out especially around the holidays. These days I would say its nearly impossible to get even an oil change without an appointment if you show up at 1pm - but that isn't the case here. Big O is known for tires, shocks and alignments - and although I recommend getting appointments for oil changes as I think different mechanics do that - the last couple of times I've dropped in they had time for everything. Recently dropped in for a tire rotation, battery and alignment. I felt I got a great price/value on everything. Got a four wheel complete alignment with computerized print out. No, no, no... not some 'set the toe and collect the doe' type job. The real deal. Apparently things were way off even though my car didn't pull at all. Must have been a bunch of pot holes? The battery appears to be a good quality Interstate. I know historically they used to be very pricey - I don't know about them these days - but again, seems like I got a great deal on it. Spent time at Panera - its a good 'waiting room' there are other options nearby. Discount retailers, Starbucks - you name it - all in walking distance to kill time. read more

I had to bring my car back 3 times over a 4 month time frame. They kept sending me out with gas caps, selling me a $35.00 gas cap I did not need. The only thing Ivan Schuplinsky found wrong with the car was a hair pinned transmission leak and tried to sell me an alignment I did not need at that time, not one word about a four year old wrong sized battery (that would be the time for them sell me a new correct sized battery, upsale you on their goods and services, you think)? saying the car was an excellent shape for such an old car. Every time I went in there, they were rude, dismissive and wanted to punch me in the face. I was intimidated and bullied right out of there. The third time back they tell me they think it's a purge valve, no guarantee and I agreed to it and was quoted $230.00. I make the payment at 4:45 over the phone of $230.00 to pick up the car after hours at 6:45 p.m. to see they had charged me $359.72 an additional $125.99 with no communications from Ivan Schuplinsky, part owner, shop manager, a short, fat, ugly, pocked out little troll, Ivan the terrible of the price chang . I called the next day rightly so upset asking what this $125.99 charge was for, why didn't you tell me about it yesterday when I made the payment to get hung up on and told to never call back there again. Of course I called back there again and I was hung up on and told to never call back again or go back in there with no explanation for the $125.99. I reached out to a Big O corporate and surprisingly was refunded the full $359.72, which was nice. Six days later, I discoverd a completely dead battery. Not only a dead battery but a 4-year-old battery that was dated September of 2020 when that battery was purchased in April or May of 2022. Now, don't you think that Ivan the Terrible would have told me, " you know Jamie, you have a four year old wrong size battery in the car, well maybe we should sell you a new battery when I brought the car in 4 months ago, right? Of course not, because the battery was perfectly fine. I reached out to the Bureau of Automotive Repair for all of this and the gentleman actually believed me. He said this is a first, I'm going to talk to them and said they'll deny it and of course they did. But at least they're being called out by a government agency. He encouraged me to follow up with a small claims court, a police report and there's nothing more he could do. But the Bureau of Automotive Repair, a government agency believes me. So, stay out of Big O Tires in San Ramon. Their bullies, they're toxic if they don't like you they will sabotage your perfectly good vehicle out of spite and hate. My wife left there in tears an hour before closing. She pulled up with a flat tire on her Cadillac 40 miles away from home. A sales person told her we can't look at it or fix it until tomorrow. I don't know what I can do for you other than that That is absolutely utter bullshit. I happen to know the corporate policy is any flat repair that can be fixed will be fixed at any time of the day when the store is open. At the end of answering my questions, he said he would see if he could find the wheels I wanted. 15 minutes later he called me back and said he could have them for me on Wednesday. What?!?! Obviously it was a no brainer to give my business to Chris and Big O. I then added 4 new tires to the list and he got them for me quick as well. They did the work a few days later and I could not be more pleased with the job they did, how well they treated me and the prices they offered. Thanks to Dustin, my next driving trip will have solid working tires on my Tesla. Before my long road trip, I asked Dustin to check my tires. Dustin asked if I was experiencing any problems. I told him, my son was complaining about the bouncing on the freeway. He offered to check the balance on the tires. I agreed. Dustin found that I had one tire that may be defective because the tire had several large gashes on the inside edge showing tire tread. I always make sure to maintain recommended PSI levels so that tire must be defective with only 2700 miles on it (Tire was Eagle II) Now, I will feel more comfortable on my road trip. Used to be a fan, but no longer. About a year ago Big O sold me a faux tire warranty for $131 that supposedly covered replacement of any of my tires in the event of a puncture. Last month I returned with a flat tire and Big O refused to honor the warranty due to tread wear. So I went to America's Tire which sold me the same tire for $50 less. And the AT warranty/certificate does not pro-rate for tread wear or mileage adjustment. Earlier last year I replaced all 4 tires on my SUV. The installed price at Costco up the street was about $200 lower that Big O and included a free warranty. In sum, I would avoid this unethical shop unless you like paying higher prices for less. read more
