On April 20th I had my summer tires put on at "Big O Tire" in Maple Ridge. On June 10th I was driving up the Coquihalla on my way to Penticton, about halfway up I lost control of my vehicle. After avoiding multiple accidents, I came to a stop in the far left lane and moved off the road the best I could. Panicked and confused, I exited my vehicle to see what was wrong. My wheel's lug nuts had shot off and one had completely sheered off, my wheel was completely wedged into my car. I'm thankful it went in because if it had shot out I wouldn't be alive to write this today. After talking to multiple mechanics and having them look at my car they all came to the same conclusion. My lug-nuts were loose and not properly torqued onto my wheel. I was not made aware of the fact your suppose to get your tires re-torqued as I've only had to take my tires in myself twice, and was never once told to do this by Big O Maple Ridge. I am only 22 years old and don't know much about cars, but have been assured by various mechanics that wether or not I get my tires re-torqued, my wheel would not fly off in under 500 km. When I brought what happened to "Big O", they said "It's not our job to tell you, you should just know." Not only did they accept zero responsibility for the incident. They also went out of their way to delete me from their client history. in attempt to sweep the whole thing under the rug. This is a direct Quote from another local mechanic "It should never need to have tires retorqued if the shop had done their job correctly in the first place." Big O tire went on about this is why it's so important to get a re torque, when I confronted them. My question for them is, if it's so important why was I never verbally communicated that? I am completely disgusted not only by the lack of responsibility this business has taken, but the verbal abuse I was forced to endure by owners Chad and TJ. I feel the need to spread the word about my experience with "Big O Tire" Maple Ridge with everyone as their faulty workmanship almost cost two 22 year old girls their life. I'm posting this as a warning to young girls in BC, DO NOT go to Big O Tire maple ridge, and make sure you get your tires retorqued to avoid a potentially life threatening situation. read more
