When my wife smelled gas, I called SoCalGas and they came out and confirmed we had a leak. They shut us down and we didn't have heat or hot water for days. Then we called Big Mike's and Saul came out, gave us an estimate. Next day he fixed the leak and we were able to have the Gas company turn our gas back on. My 80 yo parents have a supply line leak that they noticed on the Saturday of NYE weekend. My dad and I did some digging and shrub removal but finally realized we needed a plumber. Big Mike's plumber came out on Sunday and gave us an assessment of what needed to be done and a rough timeline. Very nice. Very professional even though dealing with 3 upset old people. There was an issue with the city meter shutoff too and the water dept was not helpful. I raised my voice and I don't ever do that. Thankfully, the Big Mike's plumber was back today and said he could work around the meter problem. He accomplished a lot of work and kept my dad updated. The rest of the work will be done tomorrow. I'm glad my parents have a reliable company to call because I'm not always here and am getting too old to be handy anyways. Try getting up from the floor after being crammed inside a cabinet to install a faucet when you're an old person! We are grateful for Rich and Mike's Plumbing. I had to have my toilet change, and I didn't know who to go to. I looked up some companies on Yelp and called up a few and a couple didn't pick up. But Big Mike, they answered right away. Gave me a quote that was half the price of the other company. I was sold. I made arrangements for them to come by. Of course, it was difficult to have them come after 430pm. They are a great group of people to have your house worked on. They were efficient and reliable. The only problem I had was they don't work after 5pm. So for me it was difficult to get an appt that late. They clean the area after they were done with the room. They even took the old toilet out of your hands. Christmas Eve.... Big Mikes sends out plumber "Scott" to fix a water heater that wasn't working. Spends a fair amount of time trying to diagnose the problem. Takes apart the heating element and some other electrical parts leaving wires exposed and hanging. Scott, says he needs a part from Home Depot and will be right back. Turns out he packed his tools and bailed on us Xmas eve. Turned off his phone and won't answer us or the answering device. Leaves our heater in ruins with exposed wiring. I tried to cap off the wires since our stove is on the same circuit and we at least needed to cook dinner. Flipped the breaker back on and sparks stared flying from the water heater. This POS Scott just effing bailed without having to balls to say he didn't know what he was doing and left us unable to cook or have hot water. Phone call and email out to Big Mike... I'll update when I find out what they are going to do to fix this. For now, STAY FAR AWAY FROM THEM!!!! UPDATE: I have left 3 messages with answering service and sent an email with my contact number. It's 8:13 pm. So far no response despite the comment to my original post from Mike. Mike, please call me... your answering service has the number and so does your email. Update 12/25 Still no return call. Update 12/26 Still no call back. Here's what I would say.... he posted to contact him because it's under "investigation". That's all BS! All he's doing is making it appear to readers that this was an aberration and he's working on it, he's not. We used these guys for years with few complaints. But in the last few years they stopped their pumping service which was the main reason we used them. We also had them come out to diagnose a septic line problem. They provided a quote for 3 thousand dollars to replace 15 feet of clay line that was leaking. We dug up the line recently due to another blockage to find out that they left several feet of the old clay that clearly had holes and roots all over. We had them come out to check out their in-sufficient work and they said that a year ago their camera only inspected one direction and that the 15 feet was provided (which it was not). This area was dug up and it appears they chose to just do part of the job. They said they would fix this issue the next day and they never showed up. I would not recommend them as it is clear we were taken advantage of. read more

I'm only giving them 2 stars instead of one Star because I really had hi hopes for Earnest when he came to diagnosed the back up in our laundry line. But after 2 failed no-shows they went down to 2 stars. I had hired Big Mikes a couple times in the past, one visit was about $6,000.00 to break out the floor and run some new 2" ABS in the kitchen to the Laundry then the tub. BUT they didn't put in a $5 clean-out like I asked. They said it wouldn't be "Necessary " Well know our Laundry line is not accessible to clean out. I asked him how much he would charge me to add that fitting just outside the back door? He says $1,200.00 I told him you got to be kidding! First they tell me it's not necessary, but now it is necessary. WTF So it looks like I'll be needing to call the licensing board since by California law states, any licensed contractor has to stand behind their work for 10 years on residential and 2 years on commercial work. Two men showed up to my house today to check out issues we have been having with a really bad sewage smell. no masks were worn in the house or around me...in the middle of a global pandemic. Is this your company policy?!?! nothing was resolved, on e was very rude to me, they did not even have their own step ladder, implied to my landlord it was because I had not taken out my trash yet. They also took off an access cover on my wall and did not even put it back. If I could leave a half star I would Scott came out to look into the water leaking behind the walled my house.Scott said the issue was bad.He crawled underneath the house told me I had a mini pool down there said he I would have to do a re-pipe of the hot water side. cost would be from 5000 to 5200 dollars. BEWARE!! Massive rip off artists! We had used them many times in the past for a 4 unit rental property we own. But they have a new owner Chris who fraudulently charged us $2800 for work that was not done. I am female and and out of town owner so they told me they had to dig up pipes and replace a whole section and do some other things. I knew the quote was exorbitant but I needed it done that day. However in a couple of hours they called and told me it would now be $4500!! I guess he figured he could steal even more from me. I called BS on Chris the owner and told him that we would file a complaint with the construction licensing board and he quickly said he'd stick to $2800. I got the bill but waited a few days to see if there were problems because he told me there was a warranty. Last night everything backed up again and I called them at 6:30am this morning and they were to send someone out at once. But they didn't so my husband drove out from San Diego and had the area dug up and found out they hadn't done any of the work except replacing the clean out. The maintenance guy told us that Chris packed everything up that day and left and never used the materials!!! Today we called for Chris and the worker to come to the dug up site to explain what they did but nobody from the company ever showed up and the owner only yelled at my husband on the phone. I can only imagine how many people they are ripping off if they so brazenly could have done this. What if I had paid them???? I will be filing a CSLB complaint so as many people as possible will stay away. My husband works in the construction industry and this shady and dishonest behavior is unacceptable. THEY SCAMED IS OUT OF $250.00 My wife called them to get a quote on our leaking toilet, the plumber flushed it and looked inside the toilet and told her that it's not the toilet, it's the pipes, and then charged us 250 to send a camara down the next day. Only to tell us that we need to spend 2500 + and have pipes redone.. So so we called our friend who is a los Angeles contactor / inspector to verify the video they sent us. And he said everything is fine and they are trying to scam us and our insurance company. And then he fixed the toilet by replacing the wax ring.. They put in a camera and saw roots growing into my main line and had to fix it by getting a new clean out. That was big bucks and I didn't have the cash, so unfortunately that's why I've had to use them 3 times over the last couple of years. Today I'm finally able to get the big fix. I cant say enough good things about Big Mikes! I've had to call them out twice this year for fairly large jobs and both times they provided exemplary service. After speaking with a receptionist, the plumber contacted me in less than 15 mins to advise when they would be able to arrive. They assess the situation and thoroughly explain the problem, how they intend to fix it, and how much it will cost. Joe, the plumber who helped me this week gave me best case/ worst case scenario and the price difference between the two jobs. He was able to make the best case repair but knowing both situations put my mind at ease. Joe was very polite, worked quickly and even swept the mess that was made by doing the repairs when he was done. This summer, my first repair with Mike's was completed by Oscar, who was equally professional and polite. He repaired a main in my front yard in 110 degree plus heat and remained composed the entire time. As a woman making these decisions, its the highest compliment when a man can explain the situation without being patronizing. Neither Joe or Oscar spoke down to me, instead they took the time to explain what needed to be done and answered my questions. Their employee Scott went above and beyond to help our family on numerous different occasions even once in a Saturday night. Moved into our "new" 1952 house and within 24 hours knew we had plumbing issues. Third day in the house, Christmas Eve we called Big Mikes. Within an hour Albert and Vincent were at my home. Snaked out the main line, ran the camera and discovered we had major tree root intrusion. They were back within a couple of days, replaced 19' of the main line, cleaned up there mess and they were gone. It wasn't cheep but it was a lot of work. So far, so good. In regards to no calls there was a call every day for four days for him to return. Which Scott promised to come and never did. Why do you write in third-party you came out and you're the owner and a very deceitful owner because even Scott admitted that there are ripples and it is obvious that there are ripples. You're very untruthful on trusty and deceitful owner. I've been patient for you to come and repair the damages that was caused by your company because you employ Scott therefore it is your company's responsibility. I even went out of my way to pick up the material so this could be corrected in a timely manner. You have failed to return any calls And have ignored the numerous calls made to your company. You requested a quote for the damages and those have been sent to you three weeks ago and you still have not responded. I have been patient and will not go to small claims court against you. This owner is very untrustworthy and do not use this company because if they make a mistake they will blame it on you instead of taking responsibility. We had a major plumbing job done by Big Mike's recently at a Yucaipa house we have renters in. The job involved repairs of a broken main line outside the house, removal of what turned out to be a large tree root ball in that section, and replacement of 100 feet of lateral lines and 25 feet or so of main line under the house (that is what we had initially agreed upon due to the plumber's assertion that the cast-iron lines under the house were not in great condition.) We had three quotes for the work and, after some negotiating, Big Mike's came in a full $1500 below the lowest of the other two. Chris, the person in charge of our job, was pleasant and offered good explanations of what was to be done. The work they did appeared to be of sound quality, and they, as we, are optimistic that the drain will work for years to come. That said, we have some criticisms involving their business practices: [1] They were unable to do all of the main line replacement work agreed upon due to the inaccessibility of about 8 feet of cast iron main line under the house, yet did not discount anything from the agreed-upon price for the work ($4500). [2] We agreed that they would start work at 8:30. However, they didn't show till 11:00. When I called at the request of my wife, who was on site, and asked why they hadn't arrived, Chris was apologetic and told me they needed to go to a meeting in the office and then were stuck in a major accident's traffic backup on the way to the site. Why didn't he call my wife and tell her the crew was running late, and why did they promise 8:30 knowing there was a meeting in the office that morning? That said, they finished the work the same day. One of the other places that quoted the work had stated the job would take up to four days. [3] They wanted to charge my wife $130 (3% of the invoiced amount) just to pay by credit card! That is a first; we have never had any issues paying for plumbing jobs with credit cards in the past. They could have at least taken that much off the job for the work they could not do and let my wife use the card at no extra cost. [4] They refused to warranty their work on the main line because we didn't agree on an extra $2000 to excavate and replace 10 feet of plastic line running from the house towards the street. Some of that line had sagged and was sloped backwards towards the house. They repaired it to an acceptable angle without digging the section up but stated they would not guarantee the work. Not what you want to read on an invoice after you have just forked over $4500. I would give them two stars based on their questionable business practices, but ended up giving them three because, based on the pictures my wife took, the work they did looked professionally done and instilled confidence that the repairs would last, giving us and our tenants some peace of mind. We will probably not use them for future jobs, however, due to the aforementioned business practices. read more

We are thankful that Big Mike's had Ernest available to us when many companies were closed - even other companies noted as "24-hour" providers. Ernest reached out right away and was very helpful with recommending the fastest way to obtain a quality water heater. Not only did Ernest set us up efficiently with the installation, he repositioned and welded the overflow pipe connected to the water heater and also installed a filter to help with our hard water conditions. Original post December 24, 2017 DON'T CALL BIG MIKE'S!! I've used Big Mike's several times. The work always got done, even if I had to have them come back out once or twice. But, they were local and I try to use local businesses whenever I can. Not anymore, at least not for plumbing. The last time they came out, it was to clear two clogged drains in the master bathroom. The plumber broke a pipe while he was clearing the sink drain, which he did replace. He also left a huge mess with black gunk on the floor, walls, sink, shower pan, shower wall tile, and the bathroom floor. But, the drains seemed clear, so I paid. I was super busy on another project and I have a second bathroom, so I just did a little cleaning when I could. When I finally got around to scrubbing the floor many days later, I realized that the black gunk was covering up two gouges in my vinyl floor. I called them and asked someone to come out to look at the damage. That took days of calling just to get a response. Then after someone came out to take photos, I had to keep calling for several more days to find out what they were going to do about it. Despite always being told someone would call me back, nobody ever did. I had to initiate every communication. Then, the co-owner finally told me Big Mike's wasn't going to do anything. When I told him how unhappy I was and that I would leave a bad review on Yelp and the BBB, he called me a crazy s**t head. On top of all that, the shower drain, which was one of the two drains they were supposed to clear, started running slow again after only two showers. Don't hire Big Mike's. You'll be paying for their "work" long after they leave. Updated on January 6, 2018 So, I'm updating this review to say it's after the holidays, and despite the response to my initial review, I've had no direct contact from the owner, Big Mike. At his request, I provided my phone number, which he didn't call or, if he did, didn't leave a message. I followed up by providing my personal email, which he hasn't used. I did receive an unsatisfactory response to the complaint I filed with the BBB. But, that's it. My assumption is that the response to my Yelp review was for show. I'll update my review accordingly if Big Mike contacts me personally. read more
