It's not surprising that this location at 3rd St & Bell is closing. Big Lots lost its way like so many other retailers - high prices, higher than the competition, declining quality of goods, and the discontinuation of various items I used to buy there. During the current store clearance sale, only hard and softline goods are discounted, most by 10%, which will cover the sales tax. A few things, mostly seasonal items, are 20% off. Food and beverage, and health and beauty, are not discounted at all. Many items had new price tags on them. This gave me the impression that prices were increased before discounts were applied. One example was a USB cable that cost $15 after discount, with an original price tag of $17. One can find USB cables all day long anywhere else for far less money than that. I never had problems with staff or customer service at this location or any other Big Lots. But the decline in quality of goods and the too-high prices drove me away long before the store closure. Be on alert and very careful when you're shopping at this store. In the past few months I was overcharged three times at the cashier during checkout by different people. They scanned a single item more than once which resulted in overcharge. Every time they said it was an error. I really want to believe this. It is only happened at the store. So, if you're buying multiple items, always check your receipts. And yes, the supervisor lady could be friendlier. read more

So disappointed. I love to buy Big Lots furniture, it is typically affordable and lasts pretty well. Last Dec I purchased a sectional sofa. It's wonderful and we have enjoyed it so much. However, one section of the sofa has failed and nearly goes to the floor when you sit on it. I had purchased a warranty because the manager at Big Lots told me that anything that went wrong with the sofa, they would bring out a new one. I'm not asking for an entire sofa, just the section that has failed. This morning I called on the warranty. They (Kiva a sales rep and Rick, the customer "service' manager) have denied my claim. They say it had to be a one time injury to the sofa and that the springs failing over time doesn't count. Again, I kick myself for purchasing a worthless warranty. This is def NOT customer service. I will not stop, of course, until I have this resolved, but beware. Their 4 page document stating what is covered is microscopic. Clearly, only things are covered if it happens on "Thursdays as elephants in red tennis shoes are marching by"....everything else is NOT covered. UPDATE: Went to the store. They said they would replace my sofa but they didn't have a replacement and nothing else that had would fit my living room. So I am stuck with nothing and no resolution for the moment. As with most locations, this one seems to have really pleasant employees. The deals are always decent if you are looking for bath and beauty supplies, or holiday decorations. We sometimes buy cat toys from here also since they are spoiled babies. This particular location seemed smaller and more crowded with products than some of the other locations. Certain sections were in need of some cleanup / organization. It wasn't terrible, and we are approaching the holidays, so I know stores are having a harder time with the uptick in traffic flow, so I didn't hold this against them too much. I didn't purchase anything, but I was pretty focused on searching out more desk decor for the holidays and nothing seemed to strike my fancy this go around. On the way out though I did notice that the cashier was very friendly to the lady checking out and she did stop to tell me to have a nice day - which was nice! Overall: B+ Some minor issues here, but not a bad stop off if you are in the area already! read more

My wife & I stopped here today. They were not very busy. The other day (on the weekend) we went by the store while we were out & about and the parking lot was packed. I forgot how much I enjoy exploring Big Lots merchandise and looking for closeout bargains. This place has everything from food to kitchenware, utensils, dishes, pots & pans, flatware, electronics, decorations to furniture. ALL at bargain basement prices. ******************* What does my OVERALL rating mean? ******************** 5 stars -Highly recommended. I would be willing to drive out of my way to this business. I get all my furniture at Big Lots and save hundreds. I can safely write a review about it being great quality because I have now owned furniture I bought from there for years and it is just as good a quality as anything you'd pay thousands for at Roomstore or Ashley. We got an entire outdoor wicker furniture set here for $1,000 that has withstood hot summers, we've seen similar sets for $2,000 and more. Don't let these furniture places try and tell you how great their stuff is and why they are justified charging three times as much. If you pay attention to what you're buying, it all comes from China anyway. read more

Oh Big Lots, you loveable junk store. We all know why we go there; some off-brand cleaning products, lawn gnomes, a poly-blend tablecloth you will only use once or twice.... So why write a review about Big Lots. Because Big Lots usually looks & smells like monkeys got loose in the store. Not this store. This one is new, and rather nice. Things in their place, and still the good pricing. You never know what you are going to get in a Big Lots, but this one was a pleasant surprise. I will drive out of my way to go to this store. I hope they keep it nice. I never know when I may need some fabuloso or some other random stuff. read more

I like Big Lots for the name brand stuff that the grocery stores charge an arm and a leg for. $2 for Triscuits, now that's what i'm talking about. I've been to the stores in Tempe and Scottsdale. I prefer the Scottsdale location because it seems to have more variety, but a savings is a savings. read more

My husband & I were about to set up our Christmas tree when we realized NONE of our lights worked! It sucked because we seriously had like 200 feet of lights. Ugh, WTF-they worked 2 years ago (we were on our honeymoon last year so didn't put them up)!! We decided to come to Big Lots in hopes of getting some new lights for cheap. I have never been to this location before. I used to go to the 1 on 67th ave & Cactus because it was in the same complex as my hubby's office & I would have to pick him up sometimes. I went there so much I would buy shit I didn't need so I stopped that habbit & haven't been to 1 for like 3 years or so. Well this trip was not a cheap 1 like I had hoped. We saw tons of cool lights & decorations for the house & ended up spending $130 all on Christmas stuff! I don't think I would have come here just to shop randomly though, prices weren't really that cheap & the quality was low. I would much rather shop at Target. read more

The store is very calm not a lot of people in today. Aisles are nice and tidy and best of all customer service is on point! There isn't employees watching your every move or constantly asking if there is something that I need and personally I like to be able to shop in peace and that is exactly what I'm doing here. Music is very Christmas spirt like I love it! Also Heidi at checkout was a very nice sweet gal she asked us if we we found everything ok and actually sounded sincere, another lovely thing she took the time to let me know why my number that's connected to my card pops up with my name and someone else's name once again very lovely chick! Prices here are crazy high for being a big lots. I'll give them that the store inside looks nice and they have many things to choose from compare to other big lots, but $15 for a pillow? When I can get the same one at Target or Walmart..Methinks not. read more

Good store, same as any other Big Lots. They all seem pretty consistent. Bit of a "desperation & despair" feeling in there from the employees and clientele, but if you don't mind trailer trash, the deals are the same as any Big Lots. read more

They could stand behind their furniture. I bought two recliners and they gave me a run around on getting them replaced after they broke. John, the manager at the third street an Bell road store has no concept of customer service. I talked to corporate about the chairs and they told me to bring them back and they would give me two new ones. After bringing them back the second time they finally took them and refused to give me replacements unless I paid over $200 more. We then went to the Tatum and Bell road store and bought one chair and brought it home. The mechanism was so stiff I could not operate the chair. It was nothing like the display model we tried in the store. Again we brought the chair back and told them. They refused to let us have the store display, even though it worked much better than the one they sold us. Now I only have a store credit card which forces me to spend the money with them instead of being able to go and find a real chair some where else. These people have no clue as to customer service of customer satisfaction. read more
