I was walking around from DTPHX up into this area and randomly stumbled on this very cute store that carries a lot of vintage, retro and unique pieces. I know about Cobra Arcade next door but when I saw a sign at the corner with an arrow pointing to a store called Antique Sugar, my curiosity got the best of me and I came in to check this place out! I loved the store and all the unique pieces they have, especially all the different kind of hats! I saw one hat that was an old flight attendant style hat and really really liked it! I needed a pair of sunglasses so got a fun pair here, but no idea if they are going to protect me from the UV rays. Update! The owner called me just to tell me that she watched the "whole video" and the sales rep wasn't on the phone for that long. (Soooo...They just chose to ignore me?) And that it was all my fault and that the sales rep just "didn't have time to help me because I was too busy asking her to help me" I kid you not! The sales associate had time to tell me that they were 1. Super busy with the Halloween party, 2. that she hadn't worked there for a year so she didn't know where anything was so I just had to search myself, 3. that most customers like searching through the whole store and find it a fun way to spend THE DAY, and 4. if I wanted the one dress that I tried on or not?!? BUT they didn't have time to tell me that they could help me or, actually, help me find a single garment I kept asking her what is the point of calling me if you're just going to tell me that it's my all fault? and she said "I just wanted you to know" they have lots of time at antique sugar. Not to help you. Not to make things better. But to make sure you know how bad you are at shopping at their store and thats on YOU! They're not organized according to size but decade. I was told that if I wanted to find anything in my size, I would need to literally go through every garment in the store and test it against my hips to see if it might fit and be worth trying on. Then I was told that they had Halloween party they were prepping for so they didn't have any time to help me at all. (I was also the only person in the store and the one person there was on the phone the entire time). When I expressed shock and disappointment by this, as I had didn't have all day to dig through the racks and would not expect something like that anywhere other than last chance or Goodwill, I was gaslit, talked down to and told that I must have mental problems. I came in ready to buy dresses for three different events. I left insulted and empty-handed. read more

Best place to spend the afternoon! They had a large selection of antique dresses, coats, tops, skirts, and pants from all eras. I bought an antique 60s dress and a 70s dress. I also got a jacket that was made in the 70s! The employees here were so kind and let us spent most of our afternoon looking and trying things on. I saw the reviews saying this is extremely overpriced.... well they arent wrong. I felt like I was in LA! A pair of shorts ranged anywhere between 30$-50$. some of them already pretty worn and torn. That also goes for tshirts WITH stains, rips, and all. Those ranged anywhere between 30$-100$ i feel like for some of the quality of the items not all of the clothing pieces should have such an extreme price tag. I recently bought a evening cocktail dress that's stunning and at a decent price. It's black velvet, form-fitting, and has faux fur trim lining the top wide opening of the dress making it elegant and dramatic. Jasmine helped me, she was very friendly and knew the products! On another visit I bought a black fur coat that went with the dress beautifully, and Sarah helped me that time. On the outside, this store had potential to be a wonderful vintage place, but once inside I changed my mind. The customer service was not helpful as the employees made eye contact with me, but did not ask if I needed assistance or anything. Very unwelcoming. Moving on, I looked around the store as I love vintage/secondhand clothing. I noticed the clothes weren't organized by size, which is troublesome for customers as organization is necessary. I also noticed that they charged $80+ for 100% polyester/other synthetic clothing that was made overseas. 2/5 stars due to poor customer service and unreasonable pricing due to clothing material. I would recommend for vintage/secondhand enthusiasts to shop elsewhere as there are better establishments for clothes of higher quality. read more

The owner was extremely friendly and helpful when I stopped by looking for a 1930's outfit. Although I didn't find anything I liked, I still had so much fun trying on all these clothes. One warning! I always looked forward to coming here. Unfortunately it was a negative experience. I go to all the vintage stores in the city and have always felt welcome and excited! As I was walking in, the security guard started harassing my boyfriend and I, he threaten to tow our car because he said only parking is for this store. He was aggressive and didn't give us a chance to talk, he just walked away. I was in shock because we were literally walking in the store we parked in front of. It almost made me turn around and not walk in but I always see this store driving by and it looked cool. It ruined the mood and made me uncomfortable shopping and wasn't a very nice welcome. It also scared me because he like I said before was very aggressive. He seemed racist as I am Native American and my boyfriend is Mexican. He was nice to all the other customers (were white). If you are a vintage clothing aficionado in the Valley of the Sun, then Antique Sugar is the place for you. Dresses that my Mom used to call "house-dresses" and those that were known as "sun-dresses" line the racks. They have plenty of party dresses - long & short- with bows, ruffles, sequins, and rhinestones in multiple colors and styles. I could have used this resource when I was planning my 20's costume for the Gangster Event. Great Flapper dresses for everyone! There's an incredible rack of flouncy skirts for those of you who are into the crinolines and layers. Some pencil skirts too. Colors galore!. [P.S. There is a large section of men's vintage attire. And a rack of unique ties.] Jewelry, shoes, hats, and lots of vintage accessories are displayed throughout the store. It was such fun to browse. I have my eye on one little black dress that I will return to try on when i have more time . . . and, hopefully, someone else will not have zapped it up! These may not have been one-of-a-kind when they were born, but I'd challenge you to find a look-a-like somewhere else today. My only disappointment came when I heard that this wonderful shop with all its vintage clothing used to be a few streets west of its current location for years. (They just recently moved to this location) I am so sorry that I didn't find them before. When I tried to look up the reviews it had before, or at least a link to them, I couldn't find anything for the previous shop. I live about five minutes from here and I'm so glad to see more businesses opening here in downtown instead of those dreaded condos. I've never been to the old location so I don't have a way to compare the two. In any case, it's a nice wide open space with a huge selection. The only thing wrong are the prices. Egads. I saw a cute little hat and come to find out it's $35. Seems a little steep to me. Now if this hat belonged to Jackie O then you could justify the price. They have a pretty good men's selection too. I understand this is vintage but come on. Well if you have a little extra money to burn then this is your place. Um sorta disappointing, only found one item that was even wearable. I love vintage shops and clothes but the stuff in there is more like costume genre, very clowny & too too too old that they're on the verge of falling apart, all damaged & very poor quality. Cute to look at but it really felt like I was In a museum and all that stuff is just gathering dust and not meant for wearing bec it's all dirty, smelly and falling apart. Good music in the background. Lady at the desk had zero social skills. Prices were over the top, way too expensive!!! I walked in ready to spend but walked out empty handed and sad. So I was on vacay in Casa grande AZ and there's no place I don't go - especially when out of town - to scope out the vintage shops boutiques or thrift stores. So my sister maped out a few shops within the area and Antique Sugar was amongst one on the list. Let me say AS is ah-mazing has my style of vintage and truly speaks my language. And the story of how they came up with the name is sweet and endearing. Ann is truly a gem and very sociable. Prices range and are very reasonable and worth every dollar spent. I scooped up some really nice needful pieces and could've purchased sooooo much more but didn't go overboard - it was hard not to. The shop is spacious with racks of clothes easily accessible without bumping into another or other people. There's a variety of jewelry arranged and displayed by color which is sure to get your attention - a few pieces I purchased btw! And lastly let me just add that there's clothes displayed from the ceiling - beautiful full ruffled tutu's in an assortment of colors just to name a few.....I just might have to break down and buy one! So I'm giving the rating basically based off of just purchasing, the store is amazing and awesome for going and buying, and I would recommend it to anybody over and over again to go shop there. With that being said, in regards to selling, that's the last place you want to go. The amount of items that she took was close to 20 and these are really nice items from my grandmother's closet in fantastic condition including a few really awesome pieces from the 80s including an awesome rocking concert shirt, however I was offered $30 for this. When I looked upon the sale prices, these items are being sold for hundreds of dollars. So again awesome place to buy but not a good place to sell. read more
