I have owned a 1934 double house for over 60 years. Big L is the only company I have dealt with that still provides the same quality and service now, as it did years ago, when I first had new Marvin windows installed. In 40 years, I've had to replace only of the original 32 I had installed. And this was not a fault of the window but of the old house's window frame shifting on the weather side. They sell quality windows and doors, use experienced installers, and are well organized. DEALING WITH THEM IS SO EASY. When you phone, a company person answers the phone and responds to your need. DONE! Their follow-up repair service is also excellent. They respond, however small the problem. read more

Our experience with Big L started off exceptionally well -- attentive, great service, though a bit more pricey than other quotes. We decided to go with Big L because they are local and felt like we wanted to support the "little" local company. We signed the contract and off we went. Our doors came in, were installed. They stiffed us on the first installation day, but then showed up unexpectedly a few days later. The problem is, the doors they installed were the wrong color and not what we ordered and the hardware was wrong. One screen was slashed from top to bottom. This wasn't evident until after they were installed. Our house is architecturally significant, and the installer had to create new holes and install hardware where there wasn't hardware before. Big L indicated they could just swap out the doors and get us the right color, but that that would leave us with holes and damage from the original installation. Not optimal. After MONTHS of badgering us for payment, but not making any effort to remedy the wrong hardware or ripped screen, we paid a reduced balance, and are left with doors that don't match our house, aren't what we wanted, and without any service to make it right. Oh, and the screen on one of them is still trashed. I wouldn't recommend Big L. There are lots of small companies out there. Try one of those instead. read more

A big shout out to the crew that came to our house to replace weather stripping on our sliding door. These guys were great and we were only open for about 45 minutes. On there way out they noticed a little light coming in at the bottom of the man door in the garage, they put a little piece of weather stripping to fix that... not even part of the job, terrific. We ordered three storm doors from Big L Windows and Doors, to replace the storm doors that came with our house. Pros - wide selection, customizable trim colors, friendly staff Cons - not a lot of choices at different price points, a long turn-around time in between ordering and actual delivery/installation. The doors are nice; they're functional and pretty. But the two reps who installed them left a MESS behind, especially at our front and rear doors. They installed the doors in the Winter time, and this Spring when I was weeding the garden out front there were random plastic bits and metal pieces of I don't know what door parts in the garden - so they just tossed the 'door trash' wherever. At the rear door, there were metal shavings on the deck - a big no-no since we have a dog and it'd be horrible if she were to step on those shavings/shards. I don't foresee us needing new storm doors any time soon, but if we do need them then we'll probably go with a different company that doesn't leave a mess behind. read more

Big L's estimate was at least 3 times more expensive than my estimate from Lowe's. Perhaps you get what you pay for, but wow, I wasn't planning on the estimate I got from here. If you have $4-5K budgeted for a door, and believe in getting what you pay for, come to Big L for your door. We had Big L replace all 22 of the windows in our very old city house in April 2019. The salesman was very nice and low pressure. He made several suggestions when selecting windows based on what other clients have done, and we appreciated the advice. When the installer came to measure, he also made a few suggestions for changes, including some that actually saved us money compared to our initial choices. They estimated an installation window and were very accommodating when scheduling the work. At the installation day, they showed up with 3 crews and got right to work. Everyone on the job was polite, friendly and hardworking; I think there were 8 guys working at some points. They ended up completing the job in 2 days with some minor cleanup on day three. I felt they did a good job of cleaning, paining, and leaving everything as nicely as they could considering the disruption that replacing every window will cause! When we first met with them, the salesman stressed that the new windows should save energy costs in both the summer and winter, due to the UV coating. I was skeptical, but sure enough over the course of the summer my husband and I were very impressed at how much cooler the house was. We used our a/c units so much less frequently than we did the prior summer. It really did make a huge difference. And of course, the windows have been a complete game changer this winter - compared to our old, drafty, single pane windows that used to wake us up when they rattled in the wind. We have small kids and the house has been warmer, quieter, with no drafts. We're happy with both the product and service from Big L, and we've had no shortage of contractors in our fixer upper over the last 5 years :) read more

We just got nine windows installed. The work seemed nicely done and the job was completed quickly, BUT... I'd grade Big L a C for clean-up and customer service. I found a significant number of paint chips (lead??) all over the house, which was a problem because we have a baby who touches the floor then jams his fists in his mouth. It looked like they didn't make much of an effort to sweep up after the job. (The salesman offered to come by and vaccuum after I informed him of the issue, but I'd already done it.) Also, their crew apparently drove their truck into a branch hanging over our driveway, then left without saying anything about it. I suppose it's possible that they didn't realize they had hit the tree. The company took care of trimming the branch off, but refused to give us a discount for the trouble. This kind of upset us, as the tree was a beautiful old catalpa, and paying for the trimming didn't really correct the wrong in our eyes. They did volunteer to install an additional window for free, but we don't need anymore windows. read more

I had a giant bay window replaced in the Fall of 2020. I dealt with Xander for the quote. He was on time, friendly and knowledgeable. When the time came to install the window, they could not reuse the trim that they took off of the window and I told them I really didn't want the trim that came with the window (my house has all matching white trim and the trim they came with matched the wood stain of the window) so they went and purchased the trim I already had and installed that free of cost to me. I did not get the installers names but they were all very friendly and clean. I would highly recommend. read more

Had all our windows replaced by Big L. Did alot of research beforehand. That was 2 years ago. It has been a comedy of errors since then. This week we are having 2 replaced for the FIFTH time. Wrong size, wrong window design, defective product. It has been a horrible experience. We have dealt with Big L many times over the years. Since I install my own windows, we deal with them only for ordering and delivery. All of our windows are custom orders. Sales personnel are knowledgeable and very helpful. Every window has come in on or before the promised date and in excellent condition. I can't comment on the regular prices since special orders usually cost more but the amount we have been paying seems reasonable. read more

Big L did an AMAZING job on our windows. We had 38 windows in the house to replace and I wish we could have used Big L for all of them. We only used them for the windows in the front of the house and our kitchen. They are superior windows, but you pay for it. They did wood windows rather than vinyl. All our windows are unique custom sized and they had no problem. I woul dgive them 5 stars, but they are very expensive. Thats the only negative. But, like I said - you pay for what you get. We were recommended by family and friends to go with Big L to replace the entirety of our windows on our large double. We requested a free estimate and quote. Now I understand, many businesses are busy right now that the area has finally started to open for services after COVID, BUT that really should be no excuse for what we dealt with. The man who did our quote took all of five minutes to literally just look on the outside of our home, didn't take any measurements, barely asked any questions or provided information. We advised the types of windows we wanted and how many. We were then advised after our "estimate" that we would receive a quote within two business days. A week rolls around, still nothing back from them. We then reached out ourselves and were advised they had been busy and didn't have a chance to send it....(okay then reach out to us and let us know?). When we finally got the quote, not only was it the wrong amount of windows but also for the wrong kind. We ended up getting another estimate from a different company. They took the time to do measurements, explain the process to us and actually acted like they cared we were about to be giving their company almost $20k in business. Obviously, we did not ended up going with Big L for our windows. They are extremely unprofessional, disinterested, and lack any attention to detail. Some years ago, about six, I believe, I ordered windows and doors from Big L Distributors for our home. The measurements I took were for standard sizes and I adjusted the opening to accommodate the new windows. Since I installed them myself with the help from a cousin, I just needed the windows and no installation. The guys that delivered them were not only professional but helpful as well. The reason I picked Marvin windows was simply because I used to watch Home Time on tv and they used Marvin extensively which led me to believe they were a good window. I wasn't disappointed. They are a great window and seal beautifully. The doors I ordered were of the same quality as the windows but were not made by Marvin. What we experienced after the installation is a quiet home where the drapes didn't blow around when it was windy outside. Admittedly,they are an expensive window but,whether your staying in the home you put them in or selling, they do add value and peace of mind that you have something you can be happy with. I have needed some service since the installation and when I call Big L, I get the feeling that they do care and the person that came to take care of the problem I had, cared also. Understand that I've had these windows and doors for approx. six years and Greg just left our home after replacing a tiny spring that kept the storm door latch closed. No Charge!!! Now that's service!! For those that were disappointed in their order or service, all I can say is, talk to them and if your not satisfied with the person you talked to, ask for another salesperson. We ordered a large casement window to replace an existing old one . It has been six weeks since the window was installed and they have been here twice to fix four broken parts, repaint the outside, fix a 10" crack they made in the molding and fill in the nail holes. We specifically ordered a brown window. We told the salesman at the store and the one that came to the house we wanted an all brown window. The contract says brown. The window we got is brown and white. When you roll open the casement windows it is a glaring shiny white on the inside of the window that shows when you look at it from the inside and outside. The first serviceman that came agreed with us and promised us that it would be fixed to our satisfaction. He even shook our hands on it. When I talked to the owner he stated the serviceman had no right to state that and didn't represent the company. He said the window was brown as long as the windows were shut. Yes but we do open the windows! When we questioned the quality of the window and installation because of the broken parts and problems, he stated that if we wanted a better quality window we could order a more expensive one and pay for it.
